Lifelong Astros diehard here, but I might have to find a new team with a less annoying fanbase.

I'd have been much more pissed at keeping Tucker and letting him walk for nothing this offseason than actually getting value for him now.

Sometimes it’s nice to remember that fan is short for fanatic….so same shit everywhere.

I'm glad we have an owner who won't sign players to long term deals. They rarely work out.

Plenty work out.  You just have to realize you're paying for production on the front end.  Instead Crane just skips the productive years and pays for the 3 shitty years at the end.

i’ll wait until all the moves are done before passing judgement. if it plays out right, we overhaul the roster and get some cap relief

i think framber cuts a deal to stay

pressley needs to be traded

The Red Sox have been linked to free agent Alex Bregman, but his former teammate might dictate where he lands. https://t.co/WKLW2Lsy6U

His Game 5 gem put Houston up 3-2 in the series when he tossed eight brilliant innings of one-run ball at Fenway Park. The Astros proceeded to eliminate Boston in six games.

Listening to Astros GM Dana Brown on zoom right now and he was asked about the state of the outfield: “McCormick will start off in right, Meyers in CF and we have an opening in LF. Whether it’s Dubon, a platoon or if we get an opportunity to fill the spot, we’ll do it.”

I'm still just excited and happy I lived during this era of astros baseball after 35+ plus years of misery. Don't care what they do. I got to watch my team hang 2 world series titles in my life and share that plus countless memories with my kid. I want them to continue with success cause I remember all the decades of heartbreak. There was no way they were keeping Tuck so they did what was best to keep the window open.

How many inside the park home runs will we see against the ok guys in 2025? This wet noodled arm outfield isn’t throwing anyone out. Pena and Tuve don’t have the cannon that Correa had. Any pitchers we can convert Rick Ankiel style?

0% chance the opening day OF is McCormick/Meyers/Dubon.  Anyone who listens to anything Dana Brown says in an interview is a fool.  Dude has proven that nothing he says should be taken seriously.

You think Framber is getting traded?
If you did an OF there it makes sense to call goldy and see if he wants to come home on a 1 year deal. Or a 1/1 with some vesting stuff. Smith to 3rd in 26 or 27 and Paredes to 1st. Personally Walker makes the most sense but if they wanted to sign Santander and then trade Framber for an above average OF and a prospect or 2 and did the Goldy deal I would be absolutely ecstatic.

This is a trade that was a necessity. We are having to clean up the mess that Bagwell and Reggie Jackson made. The Red Sox had to do the same thing with Mookie. Tucker was not signing in Houston, glad he got moved to the NL. Also calling Tucker a Hall of Famer is really over valuing him as a player.

#1085

The Stros info I get is hit or miss lately but the pivot internally is trying to convince Arenado to waive his NTC and one of Santander or Kepler

#1086

If you replace Bregman/ Tucker and Singelton with Paredes/ Santander and Arenado.

Your WAR is 9.1 to 8.1 but you are getting more power

He’s like a bunch of guys at 27- if they have a really great prime (which he was on his way to last year) and then a decent tail where they are productive until 35 or 36 he can get in. Always bet against HoF guy but if the standard is 70 or so WAR to get in that means he needs 45 or 50 over the balance of his career- a couple 7 or 8 war seasons in his 28 and 29 year seasons and then all of a sudden the math looks like 5 war from 30-34 and play until he’s 37 or 38, which is doable. Bet against, but bet against every 27 year old not named Mike Trout or Griffey junior or the like.

Arenado I mentioned in October and was my prediction on this pod for “1 move that’s a little surprising”. Santander and Walker would be my dream moves.

If St. Louis pays half of his salary (either cash or taking back bad contracts for us) that’s a net push money wise. And more reasonable time commitments (not too much- Bregman and too little- Tucker) in line with the rest of the overall roster.

If you bitch and complain about Crane spending you either don’t know ball or you have no recollection of Drayton and the early Luhnow years. Crane has too much involvement in baseball ops and needs to listen to the smart folks in the room more instead of the “baseball guys”. But the Astros are consistently carrying a top 5 payroll in baseball. If you told 2013 RGBIII that he would laugh in your face. Letting springer and Correa walk was absolutely the right decision and those contracts will be albatross's in a year or two, if they aren’t already.

it sucks watching talent walk out the door, especially ones you have grown fond of but NOT signing these dumb ass contracts is how you stay in contention. “But RGBIII our window is right now”, cool so you want to skull fuck our next 8 years for these next two years? Is that how the business you work in operates? “But RGBIII they need to extend our homegrown players!” Do you not remember extending altuve, Bregman, yordan, McCullers, Javier in recent years? “But RGBIII this trade makes our team worse this year!” Ya that’s how it works, we are slightly worse this year but we are massively better in 2026 and 2027 because Tucker didn’t leave for nothing (again!). “But RGBIII look at what the Yankees and dodgers are doing” cool, we aren’t in those markets and regardless of success we will never be, check back in 5 years and ask me how those contracts have worked out for them.

seeing “crane needs to sell the team” comments is the most retarded shit I have ever seen on this website. You either don’t know ball or you have absolutely no inclination on how bad it could get, go ask a Rockies or pirates fan if they would trade owners with us and see their response. Shut the fuck up and see how the offseason plays out or even better, go find another team and see how it works out for you. Putas

If you trade for Arenado, how does the 50 million in deferred money work? Is that part of the trade? His contract for the next 3 years is already steep, but that deferred money makes it untouchable.

I would imagine him waving his NTC will have a restructure aspect attached to it. I could see Montero being part of the deal as part of the money offset as well. Hearing his name was surprising to me because of the deferred money as well

#1093

Supercontracts are dumb. Signing supercontracts is dumb. Their 'hit rate' is insanely low. Supercontracts remind me so much of NFL GMs drafting guys bc they looked amazing with their shirt off at the combine and lifted 90 billion deadthrusts instead of drafting good football players - you've seen the mistake play out over and over and over again for decades now, but no one seems to learn from it and in fact end up supporting it angrily..(?!)

We're paying Grienkes so yes. But everything is negotiable

I still contend it should try to be Press to STL for Arenado and then work out the money.

I am not sure if Framber is getting traded, I’d probably put the odds at about 20%.  But regardless, there are too many OF better than Dubon, both internally and externally.  They’re not running those 3 guys out as their opening day OF unless there’s been an absolute epidemic of injuries.

Aren't the Cardinals trying to trade Arenado?  Throw them Pressly Meyers and a minor leaguer or two.  Buys some time at 3B and his salary isn't bad.  Then sign Alonso.

Confirmed Dana Brown reads Shaggy. Also Phil to GM

The Astros have emerged as serious suitors for Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, multiple sources tell @TheAthletic - https://t.co/034OATFzZ9
