Lifelong Astros diehard here, but I might have to find a new team with a less annoying fanbase.  I'd have been much more pissed at keeping Tucker and letting him walk for nothing this offseason t

Darn.

Assuming Press approves a trade, you’d need to eat prob half his salary.

So that only leaves you 4 mil for a left handed outfielder.

Press is a solid closer at a good price. It's a matter of what we want in return of what we'd need to eat

Have the Astros shown interest in Winker?

I mean, his defense sucks but he bats left handed and seems like he’s got a decent enough slash line.

Not ideal for a RF but you stick him in left when Yordon is DH’ing.

I don't see the Astros staying under the threshold.  They may get there to start the season, but if we are competitive like we should be then they will need to add at the deadline and that will probably put us back over.

LMJ 17M is really fucking us over right now.  (Along with Monteros +Abreus dumb shit)

For shits and giggles I went back to the 20-21 Offseason thread for when we signed him to see the posts  and my posts were in order right after the season "I would trade LMJ", then when extension was announced we offered "I'm good with Lance walking".....then when the contract details came out "Jesus Christ"

So dumb.

Looking back at some of these threads 5 years ago is highly entertaining....I would recommend if you are bored lol.  Also where the hell did Slorch go? (please don't tell me he died)

Ha, off to a good start in Chicago.  I look forward to the angst when they are trying to sign him next year.

Spring Training starts in a little under 5 weeks. With college football wrapping up and hunting season over, it's getting close to time to switch the ol' brain over to Astros hype mode.

lol fuck him and boras ...

I don’t pretend to know the business side of baseball but it’s not trending well for Alex. The Astros offer was more than fair and would’ve provided him with something very few players get. I don’t understand declining that for a couple of more years. https://t.co/RlM606kkRz

Bregman and Boras overplayed their hand. He’s a really good player who has just started his decline curve and probably was valued higher by the Astros who had direct knowledge of his intangibles.

How much do you think Boras paid Passan to tweet this novel?

The Houston Astros have traded their best player, Kyle Tucker, and are letting go of Alex Bregman, who has the most WAR for them since his first full season in 2017. In the meantime, they will pay first basemen Christian Walker and José Abreu a combined $39.5 million in 2025.…

Reminder that Passan is a hack that publishes agent whining like the above in exchange for access.

It's obvious in hindsight that the Astros removing themselves from the market completely tanked any leverage Boras/Bregman had, and I'd bet Boras realized that in the moment.  Hence the bullshit tweet from Passan.

Heard something interesting this morning on the drive to work. The hosts on XM84 stated that only two position players have received FA contracts for more than 2 years. Adames and Soto.

It appears that players entering their 30s are not getting the deals they once got. Good for teams to figure it out. Bregman fucked up big time.

breaking news .....

The Astros' April 20 game against the San Diego Padres at Daikin Park has been picked up for Sunday Night Baseball.
