So that is 12 WAR in 3 years?  Probably not but thanks for 2017 Game 5.  My best in person moment as a fan.

I am sad. Bregman was the heart and soul of a team I loved. Not going to be the same without him to root for.

He could have been an all time Astro.

Oh well.

Can’t be mad at him when someone is willing to put that kind of money on the table.  Hope he runs up great numbers while the Red Sox lose.

I kinda hope he mails it in and collects checks.

The only hitter left is Altuve...the one who didn't steal signs but gets shit from all of the fucking mongoloid moronic fans of other teams.

Alexthony Bregdon.

That's a ton of money on a cushy, player-friendly deal. If we made that deal, I would have been pissed. I'm thankful for all he did for us, but it's time to move on.

Paredes is gonna put up the same or better numbers than what Bregman did last year.

40M a year...no one is walking away from that. Plus he is made for Fenway....especially as his power diminshes more over time. He will probably hit 40+ doubles a season there though.

Win win for both the Astros and Bregman.

Can't believe yall wanted to be hooked into him for 6 more seasons. Hell Cam will be up by that time smashing shit.

Do we even have a pitcher who can throw it hard enough to make it hurt when we put one in his rib cage?

we put more money on the table so yeah I can

Good for him.  I'm surprised more players don't take shorter higher AAV deals.  I'd be willing to fade the downside with $120 MM guaranteed.

in the short term this sucks but we dodged a bullet on this contract

He will need a 3 year 36 million dollar deal to match the Astros offer if he doesn’t opt out. Hard to imagine he couldn’t get that unless he turns into Jose Abreu

Wonder how much was deferred and what the present value is.  Guess we'll find out soon enough

So did you

That’s the joke. Well, part of the joke.

Overpay by Boston, glad we didn't.

When he's hot they'll love him.

And when he's streaky cold, they're gonna boo the shit out of him and turn on him. AL East will never forgive his 'cheating'.

Hope it works out for him. Thanks for everything Breggy, it was a hell of a run.

On to the next chapter for everyone.

They don't boo the nobodies

It’s weird that Boston is currently planning on playing Bregman at 2nd base thus giving up a big part of his value.

Is Bregman moving positions? Rafael plays 3rd for the Red Sox. I wonder what their plan is

Devers is one of the worst defensive 3B in baseball. Bregman will likely be one of the worst defensive 2B in baseball during his transition, then you add in one of the worst defensive 1B in Casas and a returning Story who is coming off shoulder surgery.

Yikes to the pitching staff in Boston.

Will be fun to see how they react when He gets off to his typical slow start.

I honestly believe Springer, Correa and Bregman all wanted out of Houston to get something on their resume other than Houston and the scandal. Correa and Bregman took short deals to leave. Maybe not but staying didn’t sound like a priority. Alex sold his house before the season was over and Correa was basically saying byes the last two weeks of his last season. Just my read on it anyway.

Will never be admitted but this is the most logical explanation

I definitely enjoy these 2 fangraphs projections:

Christian Walker: 31 HR, 97 RBI, 3.3 WAR

Isaac Paredes: 25 HR, 84 RBI, 3.9 WAR

Hell, that'd be like 2.5 seasons worth of 1B production for us lately.

I’m happy that I will never have to watch Bregman struggle every April and May again.

The cheating scandal didn't hurt, but Springer was super pissed at the organization for playing with his service time. There really was no reason to keep Springer in the minors in 2013 or 2014, he was ready for a fulltime roll after his 2012 MiLB season.

More like -2.5 seasons, amiright

Their projections for Bregman: 24 HR, 87 RBI, 3.6 WAR.

Tucker's projected WAR for 2025 is 4.7.

With Walker's projection and the removal of the -1.6 WAR we had at 1B last season, Tucker's production is theoretically replaced.

It ain't flashy, but we will be fine.

The most logical is they all left in pursuit of more money

We possibly just moved Abreu's negative/zeroish WAR to outfield.  Paredes's peripherals scare me.  I'm leaning towards us missing the playoffs.

Possibly... but on projections alone, we still come out ahead on the math.  For whatever that's worth.

Been saying this in the office all morning, Bregman won't be laterally quick enough to play 2B.

stolen from twitter ....

In regards to Bregman's 3/120, I can't help but think of what Daryl Morey said when Chandler Parsons left in free agency:

"The teams that find the Chandler Parsons, not the ones that pay them the max, are the ones that succeed long term."

It applies here.

wish him all the best

Whatever.  It's pitchers and catchers, and Whitley, McCullers, and Javier are all going to get big outs in the World Series.

That's kind of the problem though.  Yordan and Tucker were an awesome 2nd wave but it's hard to see who the next star hitter is going to be.

Hopefully Yainer still has some upside.

start pumping banana puddings into chas, asap !!!!

Dana Brown says Astros OF Chas McCormick is swinging the bat really well.

“We feel like our outfield is strong right now.”

“We’re not committed to Altuve in left field.”

Yep... he should have at least 3 more decent earning years after this contract and will easily surpass what the Astros were offering.  He'll probably end up making 15-20M more than what the Astros put on the table.
