That said, it is even more amazing that he amassed that many goals with scores like Messier, Kurri, Nicholls, LaFontaine, McTavish, Robataille, etc. with him. Gretzky's goals per year dropped notably when he left Edmonton, but he remained as prolific in getting his teammates involved. And, the focus on defense increased dramatically in the early 2000s to present. Ovechkin had the likes of Backstrom, Semin, and Kuznetov with him over the years, but none of those guys are household names like the ones Gretzky got to collaborate with. Also - Ovechkin has a lifetime +/- of 63, or 3 per 82 game season. Gretzky was 520; 29 per 82 game season.
April 8Apr 8 I'll be at the game on Thursday, prepared for the loss. If anyone sees me, say hey. I'll be the guy in the Jets gear.

April 11Apr 11 Well, the regionals were in Fargo, Allentown, Manchester, and Toledo. Whoever is in charge of NCAA hockey is a fucking idiot. The Frozen Four is in Vegas next year and we do have regionals in the Denver area the next two years, but they're of course in a minor league rink in one of the northern suburbs. April 13Apr 13 TBH I didn't realize that the Flyers affiliate was out of Allentown until the NCAA tourney this year. My old ass is still used to them being the Philadelphia Phantoms. Edited April 13Apr 13 by NCMountaineer
April 14Apr 14 President's Trophy winner: my & your Winnipeg Jets! (Doesn't mean we won't get swept in the first round)
April 14Apr 14 1 hour ago, jetsfan76 said: President's Trophy winner: my & your Winnipeg Jets! (Doesn't mean we won't get swept in the first round) they did have the easiest schedule, according to the intertubes. anyway, congrats on that jinx. lol
April 15Apr 15 Author What an absolute choke from the Habs last night. Couldn’t even beat out a shitty Blackhawk team in their home barn. They will be an easy first round exit by the end of next week. Hate from Boston you fuckers.
April 15Apr 15 Author Avs get their captain back plus some needed rest for their big boys. Dallas might be in big trouble. They look like absolute dog shit right now and Heiskanen doesn’t seem like he’s close to returning. Rantanen with only 5 goals since joining the Stars, and how many at 5x5? Life is just different when you aren’t playing with MacKinnon and Makar.
April 15Apr 15 was curious how close we were to knowing the final field - seems to be some meaningful hockey yet: EASTERN CONFERENCE The Montreal Canadiens (idle) will clinch a playoff berth with any result in the Columbus Blue Jackets-Philadelphia Flyers game (7 p.m. ET; FDSNOH, NBCSP) other than a Blue Jackets regulation win The Toronto Maple Leafs will clinch the Atlantic Division title: If they get at least one point against the Buffalo Sabres (7 p.m. ET; MSG-B, TSN4); OR If the Tampa Bay Lightning lose to the Florida Panthers in any fashion (7:30 p.m. ET; SCRIPPS, ESPN, SN360, TVAS). Toronto (A1) vs. Ottawa (WC1) and Tampa Bay (A2) vs. Florida (A3) would be locked in if Toronto gets a point or Tampa Bay loses in any fashion. Washington (M1) vs. Montreal (WC2) would be locked in if there is any result in the Blue Jackets-Flyers game other than a Blue Jackets regulation win. WESTERN CONFERENCE The Minnesota Wild will clinch a playoff berth: If they get at least one point against the Anaheim Ducks (8 p.m. ET; FDSNWIX, FDSNNO, Victory+, KCOP-13); OR If the St. Louis Blues lose to the Utah Hockey Club in any fashion (8 p.m. ET; FDSNMW, Utah16); OR If the Calgary Flames lose to the Vegas Golden Knights in any fashion (9 p.m. ET; TVAS, SNW, SCRIPPS). The Blues will clinch a playoff berth: If they defeat Utah in regulation. OR If they defeat Utah in overtime or shootout AND either of the following occurs: - Any result in the Flames-Golden Knights game other than a Flames regulation win - The Wild lose to the Ducks in regulation OR If they get one point against Utah AND the Flames lose to the Golden Knights in any fashion; OR If the Flames lose to the Golden Knights in regulation. Stephane Robidas' kid getting the game winner there in regulation would be the sweetest possible outcome. Edited April 16Apr 16 by NCMountaineer
April 16Apr 16 Just one spot left - will it be Columbus or Montreal? Jackets need Habs to lose and they need to pick up a win in order to take that last spot. We'll know tonight after the MTL/CAR game
April 16Apr 16 Author I fucking hope Columbus gets in because fuck les habitants. Plus, I actually think Montreal would upset Washington in round 1 and I couldn’t stand listening to those annoying fucks brag about winning a fucking playoff series against a couple of fucking dinosaurs on the Caps.

I was at the Stars/Jets game last week. Stars didn't even necessarily play "bad" that game (like they have in most others down the stretch) but best performance by visiting team I've seen in person this season by far. Maybe that was their "A" game but going to be a tough out for anyone if they play like that. Of course, I'm sure all the Jets fans will temper expectations until they actually see it in the playoffs. Not a great draw with the Blues as hot as they have been. If I were a Jets fan would have preferred the Wild for sure.

April 18Apr 18 I'm not even a Jets fan but really looking forward to seeing what Hellebuyck does in the playoffs. Gotta have a hot keeper. They looked great in person in Dallas last week.

April 18Apr 18 5 hours ago, Vertuzzi said: Same shit, different year. Wouldn’t be shocked at all to see the Blues knock them out of round 1 again. Yep. Until he proves otherwise, Hellebuyck is not a standout playoff goalie. He wasn't even a good goalie last year vs. the Avs.
April 29Apr 29 Since they aren't in the playoffs they are relegated here. The Rick Tocchet experiment has ended
April 30Apr 30 Sounds like Mammoth won. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/44935255/utah-hockey-club-confirm-mammoth-name-apparent-leak
May 7May 7 I actually dig that choice of mascot a lot. One of the better new franchise names in awhile.
June 13Jun 13 So, Hellecuck wins the Hart & Vezina. Thank goodness they're regular season awards. His shitty playoffs should've disqualified him from these.
