So, I'm just back from ACL weekend in Austin, where I had breakfasts at Counter Cafe, Magnolia Cafe, and Toasty Badger - all better than average, local breakfast places with character.  It isn't hard to find similar places in other cities when I travel.  But, Houston is full of chains like First Watch, Another Broken Egg, and Snooze, all of which are pretty soulless.  I know there are couple of old fashioned dives out Telephone Road, like Frank's Grill and Tel-Wink Diner.  And, Harry's in mid-town just popped into my head.  What are other good, local breakfast places, with character?  Inner loop or west side, inside the beltway preferred....

Empire Cafe

Harry’s

Common Bond

Citizens of Montrose (technically not local since they have a couple of locations in NYC)

Baby Barnaby’s

Cielito (line sucks on the weekend)

La Guadalupana

Tiny Boxwoods

Their cinnamon rolls taste like church’s old dinner rolls deep fried and then dipped in cinnamon and sugar.  Delicious.

I know it’s River Oaks (or River Oaks adjacent), but somehow it’s less snotty than the one in Austin.

I don't think they serve cocktails/alcohol though? Could be wrong, but I like having a drink with my breakfast, especially on weekends. Been a while since I've been there

BYOB or they really don’t give a shit. I’m not sure.

RIP Fountainview Cafe.  That place was great.  Buffalo Grill used to do pretty well with breakfast, but it went local chain at some point a decade or so ago.

Agree RIP on Fountainview Cafe.

Buffalo Grille was acquired by Adair Concepts just a few months ago.  I expect they will turn things around.

Pork chops were always solid. Glad to see a new owner could bring some fresh air.

Brother went to Dandelion and hated it. Said the eggs and toast were fine but the bacon had been sitting a while, was cold and congealed and the coffee was so bitter as to be un-drinkable. YMMV

Has anyone tried Betsy's at Evelyn's Park? Passed by it on the way to an appointment yesterday and thought of this thread.

Quite a limited menu but if you find what you like it's not bad.

Edited to add:  It's a great neighborhood spot but not worth going out of your way to unless you have kids and want a place to hang out for a bit.

Avalon Diner.  Some of the staff have been there for like 40 years...

Harry's is good, but it's like they got rid of the soul little since they re-did it a couple years ago.

Bojangles exits in Greater Houston.

Listing them in the breakfast thread because they make their biscuits from scratch.

Incredible breakfast menu. Really good chicken.
