June 3, 20241 yr Fast forward to the 1:15 mark to avoid the pre-song chatter and interpreter. I've always kind of liked Roddy Frame's take on VH's hit.

This is really good though - Holy shit, that guy's voice! I've heard a couple of their songs on radio and liked them, but now I'm really going to pay attention.

Yeah they just popped up on my radar from this cover that’s a little viral. I’ve been listening today and I’m into it. This is another cover and yeah it’s the vocals
June 3, 20241 yr One thing I noticed on that Cranberries cover is the impeccable tuning on the guitar. I mean, I can get that the vocals might be auto-tuned, but that's a little more difficult on a guitar. Really well done.
June 11, 20241 yr Glen Campell's daughter, Ashley Campbell, is gorgeous and talented and Carl Jackson is one of those musicians who can shred on any stringed instrument, including, as he does here, guitar. This is one of the greatest country songs ever written. It's an odd observation, but Ashley Campbell may have the most flawless skin I've ever seen. When Joe Ely and Uncle Tupelo take on Waylon Jennings.

June 15, 20241 yr I don't really know where to put this, but since it's basically "Blues In E", I'll put it here. Disclaimer: I am a huge fan of both Eddie Van Halen and Brian May. Both advanced rock guitar in important and distinct ways. "Virtuoso" and "genius" are overused words, but not when it comes to those two guys. That said, this is terrible. The rhythm section sounds like three amateurs jamming at an open mic, and the twin, incessant, rambling guitar solos point to a shocking ignorance of the blues idiom. The number of clams is laughable, and then we get to the keyboard solo. Holy shit. I'll say no more about that. The whole thing goes Monty Python when the keyboardist apparently doesn't realize everyone else has stopped playing, so the "band" slowly eases back in with a more uptempo but equally cringeworthy vamp. Either that, or they inadvisably glued two separate takes together. Whatever. Grab your earplugs.
June 15, 20241 yr I don’t hate that. Certainly not breaking any new ground but listening to those two guys riff back and forth on a 12 bar blues is plenty cool in my book.
September 10, 20241 yr Nice straightforward cover of "Creep". The way Chrissie's voice breaks as she drops out of her falsetto kills me. She is such an incredible natural singer.

That is outstanding. 2 thoughts:1) how the hell is that nearly 30 years old now?2) why is it so hard to get an amplified acoustic guitar to sound like that live in real life?
September 12, 20241 yr Did you guys know Sean Lennon could rip it like that? Edited September 12, 20241 yr by Pato del Muerto
September 13, 20241 yr saw them play all of animals last year at waterloo amphitheater. it was very good.
September 13, 20241 yr Not usually a fan of "Rockin' out," a song like this, but for some reason I've always liked this cover and Jake E. Lee.

December 8, 20241 yr From 2004's terribly underrated "Dawn of the Dead" remake. (Zach Snyder made an actual good movie.)
December 19, 20241 yr Really interesting video of a cover made on the spot. A shoe gaze version of Dreams. I think it's pretty good and it's interesting. Edited December 19, 20241 yr by ajax

February 7Feb 7 Well, not QUITE a cover, but sorta. Super cool nonetheless. A little sloppy on the double time; i.e., perfect. Two giants of modern music.
June 27Jun 27 I think it’s safe to say we’re all fans of the original. But I just came across this chill cover… very nice

July 2Jul 2 Depeche Mode covering one of my favorite U2 songs - So Cruel. I am not 100% sure how I feel about the cover. Seems pretty good, but I may be letting my love of the original cloud my judgment, just because it is DM and they did not screw it up. DM is far more measured and constrained in studio… Edited July 2Jul 2 by boilerhorn

The video makes it look like they reproduced all the instrumentation but it sounds exactly like the original. I love both bands but this one leaves me wanting…
September 19Sep 19 From a few years ago, but man, I really love their version. Goose covers The Who's Eminence Front
October 7Oct 7 side note- anyone watch the musora channel covers on YouTube? Edited October 7Oct 7 by Pato del Muerto
October 13Oct 13 I used to watch the AV Club Undercover series back in the day, but somehow this one slipped past me until now. So fucking good.
