Great flick.

"You're just afraid of my Guatamalaness."

Actually, it’s perfect. I just never realized John Wayne walked that way.

Meet me in 20 minutes at the corner of El Dorado and Palm.

One of my favorites.

A prostitute? A minor? Black?

Lady, not for a million dollars

My husband loves this movie. I find it funny too. But I HATE the premise. The fact that he is so ashamed of his dads, more so the more “effeminate” one, that he wants them to completely change their lives to fit in, pisses me off. I get that’s the point and what the moral of the story is. I just find it sad.

Oh god, I pierced the toast!

The son is a pragmatist. He loves his dads but takes a realistic appraisal of the situation and asks them to sacrifice their identity, at least for this weekend. Its a mistake and not likely to work. We know that early on, but the elaborate preparation leads to countless opportunities for comedy.

You are supposed to hate the premise and the antagonist Senator Keeley, who they proceed to dunk on the whole movie.

It then leads to conflict, drama, farce, and ultimately resolution. And, one of the best endings in comedy.

Morality tales, which have withstood the test of time since the dawn of civilization, are in jeopardy. Because with our society’s short attention span and viewers watching clips and reading blogs, they don’t always understand the material and make judgements before the resolution as if storytelling works when everyone is perfect and reasonable all the time.

I dont think thats where you’re coming from. The son does come off as a jerk.

Yeah that’s not where I’m coming from. The son does come off as a jerk. Wiping the makeup off his dad’s face, basically trying to exile his other dad. He’s ashamed deep down and if IIRC, never really apologizes for it. I think it’s sad and I would be heartbroken if my son did that to me

Azaria kills in this movie.

It's sweet and sour peasant soup!... wait you forgot the shrimps....

fuck the shrimp!

IMBD: Robin Williams's slip and fall during the shrimp scene was not planned. Williams really fell, and he, Hank Azaria, and Dan Futterman are holding back laughter. Williams can even be heard holding back laughter telling everyone to "Go" out of the kitchen.

I always pay special attention to this scene because it's so funny watching Williams continue on with the scene while Azaria and Futterman try to figure out WTF just happened.
