Was mentioned somewhere else but these propositions are the "Heros" act or some shit.  Forces the city to hire more cops than they can run through the academy and, probably more importantly, train on the job.

Possibly more importantly, waives city sovereign immunity.  Yes, "we" generally don't like immunity when it favors cops or Trump, but you don't want to see what it's like when there's no restraint on the city being sued, and allowing claimaints to recover costs and attorneys fees.

But, hell, don't take my word for it, do your own research. https://www.fox4news.com/news/election-2024-dallas-hero-amendments

Bapartisan group of former mayors urge vote no

Quote

City of Dallas Voters NO on S, T, and U

OK, but how did they vote on "F?"

I posted a very lengthy article from Texas Tribune on the Dallas City Council thread on DT that discusses this exact thing and the scourge that Monty Bennett is.

  • 2 weeks later...

S and U passed. Our citizens deserve the garbage they voted for. Hopefully my house value stays up when I sell it in the next couple of years.

Monty Bennett is a monumental piece of shit

Fuck.  I forgot to follow up on this in view of other things.

Was hoping all three would fail. We need more officers, but we don’t even have the actual capacity for 900 more quickly. Not enough cars, uniforms/equipment, training capacity, or hell even lockers and station space.

Once again, an uninformed electorate has voted against its best interests.

50% of revenue to police and fire pensions.

Holy fuck.

Perhaps there’s a plan to drive Dallas into municipal bankruptcy so there can be more support for budget reform.

Dallas Police Association should have kept their mouth shut because city voters almost never align with them. They endorsed the wrong Mayoral candidate in 2019 including every single council runoff. Every 2021 runoff candidate lost. Only 1 candidate in 2023 won (Gracey). They endorsed voting against RST&U and only got T voted down. They're 2 for 14 in the last five years. A .143 batting average doesn't even get you to AA ball. That's how bad their messaging has been.

Can somebody explain or point me in the direction of this breakdown. It’s 50% of all NEW city rev… so does that mean they look at the 2024 revenue and anything above that in the future is chopped in half with pensions getting one half? If so Dallas is so boned with the lege’s annual rev caps already in place.

I overstated, but it's in the first section.

If at any time the total actual, accruing or estimated annual revenue of the City exceeds the total actual annual revenue of the prior fiscal year, the City Council shall appropriate no less than 50% of such excess amount, in compliance with Section 1 of Chapter XI of this Charter, to fund the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System – Combined Plan, in the amount directed by the State Pension Review Board and/or the City Council, whichever is higher. Any monies remaining shall be appropriated to the Public Safety Objectives described below in Section B.
