Notre dame has played more games in November at Yankee stadium than the Yankees have in the past 15 years

And everyone talks about the “evil, greedy” Yankees, yet we have agreed to only charge the Rays $15 million to rent the Tampa stadium. That’s under $200k a game, which is fucking nothing.

So they'll be taking a loss every game because I doubt they'll sell $200k worth of tickets to any game not played against the Yankees.  How kind of them.

A few other teams have good attendance in TB. Red Sox are 1.

What else do the yankees do with that stadium during the season? And Could they not, for the benefit of the community, just donated it? Nah....

We have a minor league team that plays there.

Yep, both will be there in ‘25.

No they won’t.

The minor league team will play in another stadium that the Yankees own / within their system.

IMO that’s why the rays have to pay as the Yankees farm system will need to absorb the cost / effort to put their single A team somewhere else.

The Tarpons will play on an auxiliary field at the Yankees spring training complex, which Steinbrenner field is a part of. That’s going to create issues also though because the Yankees FCL rookie ball team plays on that field. Basically the Yankees are bending over backwards to help out the Rays in a way no other organization would.

That's impressive, but aren't those MVPs and Cy Youngs "just" five players?

Seems good for baseball.

Salary cap or die at this rate.

Gonna have to shut it down at least a year to force the union to accept a cap. Painful times ahead.

I think it will come down to either Roki or Beuhler.

Manfred pondering trying to implement “golden at-bat” rule. One at-bat a game where a team can send any player they want to the plate.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5961016/2024/12/02/golden-at-bat-rule-mlb/

I love it personally. I know it’s not “traditional” but if you want to grow the game, get people excited, this would be a BIG draw. Who wants to watch Jose Trevino bat in the 9th with the bases loaded while Juan Soto sits on the bench?

They should have to use a solid gold bat.  If they hit a HR, everyone in the stadium gets a gold ingot.

Usually salary caps include salary floors, so the players collectively make more money. It just gets spread around to more mid tier guys than just being too heavy. NFLPA usually goes with it because the rank and file guys are the majority of votes and they get more money.

Does Trevino play for the Mets?

Send any player you want to the plate but they must use “their own stick”.

The earth-shaking signings have begun.  Soto will probably sign soon, too.

Gettin’ Higgy wit it!We've signed C Kyle Higashioka to a two-year contract with a mutual option for 2027.

Oh hell, what’s $250M between friends, huh?

First comment is gold:

"First of all you're going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters, & if you plan on using any cement in this building I'm sure the Teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya. Oh & don't forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there's long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the Boy Scouts." ~Thornton Melon
