February 5Feb 5 For @txhorns. Quote The Chicago Cubs are acquiring right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sources tell ESPN. Brasier, 37, was DFA'd last week but should get leverage innings for Chicago. Edited February 5Feb 5 by shadow_operative2.0

They have no idea what makes players good. They thought Nolan Jones was going to be a star after his rookie year even though he had the worst chase rate and the highest BABIP in MLB. Then they were just baffled that he sucked last season. Now they think Tovar is their next star even though he has a .290 OBP and 50 BB and 375 Ks in his career. And they keep promoting dudes through the front office, while hanging onto Bud Black for no apparent reason. Adding Charlie Blackmon to the front office will hurt more than help if they're employing him to do anything more than shake hands. And nevertheless, I just bought a partial season ticket package, because hanging out in the upper deck of Coors Field watching the sunset and drinking beer on a warm summer evening is one of the best things I know.

Instead, he held out for free agency, which didn't prove as lucrative as he had hoped.

February 8Feb 8 ^ Everything I’ve read says Yoan will start at 3B, Rengifo at SS while Neto is out, then back to 2B. And Heyward to Padres.

Quote All in all, Rendon has hit .242 in his five seasons as an Angel, posting a sub-4.0 total WAR and never reaching 60 games played in a single year. He has also been accused of unprofessionalism during his stint in Anaheim … and yet remains MLB’s highest-paid infielder by average annual contract value (making over $38.5 million in each of the next two seasons). Holy fuck.
February 11Feb 11 There’s a 90-minute show on MLBN at 8:30 about Schmidt. Guess it premiered in December.

February 11Feb 11 Author Quote TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that he didn't like hearing the criticism of his team levied by Los Angeles Dodgers players after they beat the Yankees in last year's World Series and hopes to "handle things with a little more class" if New York can win its first championship since 2009. Dodgers utility man Chris Taylor and former reliever Joe Kelly disparaged the Yankees -- whose sloppy fifth inning ultimately led to a series-clinching Game 5 loss -- with Kelly calling their shoddy defense and baserunning "well-known" on his podcast and Taylor saying the Yankees "s--- down their leg" on teammate Mookie Betts' podcast. Advertising "The reality is we didn't play our best in the series and they won, so they had that right to say whatever," Boone said. "Hopefully, we're in that position next year and handle things with a little more class. But the reality is it's a great team, it's a great organization with a lot of great people that I happen to know and respect, too. So a few people sounding off isn't necessarily how I would want to draw it up." Boone pointed out that the Dodgers' stars -- Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Clayton Kershaw -- did not publicly roast the Yankees and that "sometimes you're coming off ... winning the world championship and some guys are more inclined to spout off and be a little more colorful than others -- and that's their right. They won. And again, hopefully we're in that position and do things a little better."

He’s got a $15 million salary and he still might not even make the team this year because he sucks. If he plays at all against us this year I would be curious to see if he mouths off after taking 96 mph to the rib cage.

During Covid, I Zoom interviewed Paul Goldschmidt for one of my classes about how he invests. I opened his Baseball Savant page to introduce him and noticed the "Random highlight" button, set it to HR, and asked him to name the type of pitch and location before I hit play. We did it 4-5 times and he acted like it was about as difficult as remembering the names of his kids. Edited February 12Feb 12 by Beau Vine
February 12Feb 12 Rendon inked a 7-yr, $245 mil deal starting in 2020. This is season 6 of the deal. He has not played 60 games in a season for Angels (played 52 in 60-gm 2020 season). Had 597 PA in each of the 4 seasons preceding the deal. Has had less than 250 PA in all 5 seasons of the deal.
