Players typically sign for the most cash, all that other shit is just old men yelling.

Damn, 8 games better than the field seems agressive

Also, looks like the teams will combine to go 6 over .500.  Gonna be a good year!

at that number, I'd go over on the Angels.

Gleyber to the Tigers.

Gleyber and Baez together....the stuff nightmares are made of

So stoked. All positions covered with quality players (although I'm still not a fan of Mookie at SS). Teo is a great clubhouse guy on top of being a great player

yall are loaded and ready to defend the title

Still one of the best and most organic sports brawls probably ever.

From a fucking pirates fan is pretty rich. I’m sad to say I used to frequent r/baseball. It’s nothing but a bunch of virgin edgelords that don’t know the game now.

I’m so glad y’all are able to add some young players to such a talent deficient team. Really scrapped and clawed your way out of mediocrity to get that World Series. One can only imagine what the Dodgers might look like if they ever get some elite players on the roster.

The Dodgers are doing more than just buying a roster.  They are structuring an organization for extended success.  Heavy focus on farm development along with acquiring top level talent.  And creating a place where players want to come.  Plenty of teams have the money to just buy it.  The Dodgers are very calculated.

No there isn’t.

Weren't the Reds just completely overloaded with young infielders?

Is Nick Pivetta fucked?  Dude should probably have taken the QO of 21.5M or whatever.  I would think no team is going to pay him more than that on a per year basis, and I get while he wants a longer term contract I would also think no team wants to give up drat pick + international pool $$ or whatever to sign this dude.

He is either going to make waaaay less per year than he wanted, or not get signed unless some starter gets hurt during Spring Training?

If a team waits until after the draft to sign him I guess the draft pick compensation part goes away?

Could the Red Sox sign him still to a 1 year deal for like 10M now and lowball the fuck out of him?

Seems like the dumbest decision of the offseason so far was to turn down the QO

Holy fuck, I remember this guy shutting down Augie's boys in a season opener that year they played in Dell Diamond.

This is solely for @Beau Vine

The Padres are going to add a couple of former big leaguers to their coaching staff. Per Dennis Lin of The Athletic, Nick Punto and Robby Hammock are going to be coming aboard, though their specific roles aren’t yet clear. Lin adds that Ryan Barba, the club’s major league field coordinator in 2024, recently left to join the Cardinals in some unspecified role.

Punto, 47, was in the big leagues from 2001 to 2014 as a utility player. He got into 1,163 games for the Phillies, Twins, Cardinals, Red Sox, Dodgers and Athletics. He hit .245/.323/.323 while playing every position on the diamond outside of the battery. He won a World Series ring with the Cards in 2011.

Hammock, also 47, was mostly a catcher but he also dabbled in the four corner spots. He played on-and-off for the Diamondbacks from 2003 to 2011, getting into 182 games. He hit .254/.312/.407 over his 527 plate appearances.

Sounds like Brian Matusz may have died of a drug overdose. His mom had taken him to the ER 2 days prior after a he had a mental health episode, and they referred him to a mental health facility but he apparently wasn’t admitted. They went home and his mom found him dead 2 days later after she hadn’t heard from him.

Idk I always thought SD was the spot all along and this was just a dog and pony show

If he goes to the dodgers Manfred needs to step in and do something. It’s getting fucking absurd

Go back to the 90s and look at the Yankees. They were doing the same damn thing.

I guess I missed when we ever had a complete monopoly on NPB talent. This is bullshit and bad for the game. Remove them from the international bonus pool and let teams actually bid on them. Then let’s see how many of these guys actually give a shit about playing on the west coast

Other than location, what advantage do the Dodgers have over the Yankees when it comes to signing NPB talent?

Right now they’re all tied to international bonus money. So yeah, when the only difference between signing somewhere is a few hundred thousand or a million I might as well shave a couple hours off the flight home. It’s bullshit that the dodgers get this advantage over everyone else simply by pure luck of franchise location. When the difference can becomes millions or tens of millions of dollars, now other teams have more of a fair shot. Matsui played here, Kuroda, Suzuki, Tanaka, all played here and loved it. I’ve been to both and can’t imagine someone liking LA over NYC. But this new generation of Japanese players won’t give any other teams even a thought now. It’s bad for the game

You guys live in Katy and fucking tomball and say you’re from Houston. I’ve visited NYC and love the Yankees so I’ll say I’m in NYC and we’ll call it even.
