U.S. Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO) believes that his constituents will like paying higher prices because of President Donald Trump's trade war.

MANU RAJU: "Do you think that a lot of your constituents feel the same way, they're willing to pay a little bit more?"

ALFORD: "I think so."

Dems should chant “traitor” throughout his speech.

I'd love for them to refer to him as Comrade Trumpsky in their rebuttal, but they won't.

I’m still unsure of who or what we are fighting with this “war”.

Yes, he was famously elected on his promise to raise prices. It's all everyone was talking about. They couldn't believe Biden had egg prices so low, that son of a bitch.

I'd love for them to refer to him as Comrade Trumpsky in their rebuttal, but they won't.

Make the entire rebuttal aimed at Putin.

Showing up and being polite is kinda weak.

But maybe they'll surprise everyone and do a Democratic version of Republican heckling.

We'll see.

I agree that the Dems should all skip it - other than Jasmine Crockett, who I'd send in as a designated heckler.  Trump would lose his shit , given his known love of strong women of color.

Why even show up.
Boycott this jackass

I think laughing would be perfect. Narcissist bullies like him hate being laughed at. Make him lose his cool then laugh more

Heckling and laughing would be the best response. Make him go on tilt. We all know he’s a maniac but let him put on display how truly insane he is.

Yep. go, heckle and if he gets insulting stand up and walk out.

Or walk out in groups everytime he says something stupid. By the end show it is empty.

I wonder if all the Trumpers in the adjacent neighborhood asked for proof of citizenship from the Spanish-speaking workers who spent the day cleaning up all the fallen trees from this morning’s storm. Or perhaps they let it slide because it was their own yards.

I've been bouncing back and forth on this.  The SOTU (and speeches like it) are important.  Anything Dems do will be castigated in the moment and used as justification in the future when MTGs of the world do something worse should we ever have a Dem president again.  I was trying to think of a better form of protest.  They should stand up and walk out during Trump's first sentence.  Perhaps singing some kind of protest song.  Hold a simultaneous protest press conference that includes fired Federal workers on the capitol steps.   Take the message away from Trump's speech.  We all know it will be batshit anyway.  So do something that will make it batshit and not newsworthy because you've created a more newsworthy event on the capitol steps.

the winning play is take all of his worst lies tonight and inject them in to every stream, influencer, instatube

it's gonna take a lot more than that before it makes any difference. sigh.

It's a start. We'll never get anywhere without the people behind it. It's also a big shift compared to a month ago.

The Supreme Court in a 5-4 emergency ruling Wednesday refused to halt a judge’s decision ordering the Trump administration to immediately release nearly $2 billion in foreign aid payments owed under existing contracts.

It hands a loss to the administration in the first time that Trump’s efforts to drastically reshape federal spending, agency by agency, have reached the high court.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined with the court’s three liberals to side against the administration.

Quote

Four of the court’s conservatives — Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh — dissented.

“Does a single district-court judge who likely lacks jurisdiction have the unchecked power to compel the Government of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 billion taxpayer dollars? The answer to that question should be an emphatic ‘No,’ but a majority of this Court apparently thinks otherwise. I am stunned,” Alito wrote, joined by the three others.

This Supreme Court, it always feels like they throw the people a bone, then go back to fucking them. Specifically the conservatives on the bench... I remain pessimistic on future rulings.

Now, Alito cares about jurisdiction- that’s extremely rich from that asshole.

Alito and Thomas have literally no commonly recognized guiding principles.  They are pure Calvinball -- does an outcome serve their psychotic "conservative" goals?  Then that's the right outcome.  They have no use for the law, separation of powers, obligations based on that separation, etc.  None.  Zero.  They are rogue judges who are a cancer on the country.

There is no such thing.  If an "independent" watched Trump speak, that person is a Trumper who likes to give themselves a label that makes them feel smarter.  But the approval numbers are where the proof is in the pudding.  Self-declared "independents" are Trumpers.  Always.

Very disheartening to see that high of an approval rating at this point.

I think we might have a messaging problem.

What? Trump is saying obviously vile things while doing obviously vile things and they approve. I don't think some kind of sophisticated messaging is going to turn people who like evil into people who like good. Unless people are just sheep who blindly follow whatever is dangled in front of them.

most people aren't paying attention or they simply don't care

Go stop the average person on the street and ask them what they think about the dismantling of our government, or what they think about Russia having ownership of our president. They'll look at you like you have five heads.

Letting public education languish is paying massive dividends for the Republicans.

I think it's a little late for that in our lifetimes.

DOGE is popular because the American people have been conditioned to hate government for generations. There is no pro-government Progressive Era or New Deal grassroots movement right now. As long as the average American isn't the one being let go (and most people don't work for the government) then they're completely fine with nameless bureaucrats getting the axe. Hell, not just fine, they're all for it.  "That's my money"

Ukraine vs Russia? "That's my money" and we're not conditioned to understand complex international conflicts or the way that military procurement works.

USAID? "That's my money" and we're not a nation that understands the long game (look at our collective retirement accounts)

Immigration? "That's my money" + "They're different than me" Nativism is nothing new and scary foreigners is one of the classic hits in the American album

Asking the most selfish people on earth to suddenly care about others with their wallet is just not going to happen, imo.
