So where did I miss the announcement that Congress approved a $2.5 billion dollar bonus to active duty military this week? That's how things work, right? The POTUS can't just say "give these people over here a couple grand" and voila...checks are cut.

For those of you who love medieval history--and I know that you do--it's impossible not to see the parallels with the English wool export tax of Edward III.

By the 14th Century, it was well established that if the king wanted to raise revenues from any kind of direct taxation, he had to obtain the approval of Parliament.  And Parliament wasn't excited about imposing new taxes to enable Edward III to assert his claims to the French crown.  So Edward imposed new taxes on the export of English wool.  His successors then increased that tax.

That brought in a fuckton of money that was completely outside the control of Parliament.  By the reign of Henry V, it was nearly 2/3rds of the Crown's revenue.  And that tax alone allowed the Crown to prosecute the Hundred Years War and brought the famous victories at Crecy, Poitiers, and Agincourt.  It was, in modern terms, a slush fund for the English king to prosecute his military adventures in France.

So yeah--if you don't see a danger in the executive imposing tariffs independent of congressional authorization that give it revenue that it can use to fund military adventurism without congressional approval, I'd really encourage you to read more history.

Despite all the evidence to the contrary, I will stay positive that some justice might sneak through.

So take that, dark clouds

it amazes me daily how unbelievably dumb most people are here. I cant get amazed by dotard anymore, but the people lapping up the piss, or ignoring the piss, or blaming it on biden's weinis is just astounding to me.

crazy how ineffective he was in office, but the second he leaves Biden is the most powerful man on the planet. the cognitive dissonance is deafening

I haven't unfriended anyone on Facebook and have only unfollowed a couple from my feed who were nonstop MAGA posting. But I still have hundreds of "friends" on there who voted for Trump three times, guaranteed. I don't actually get on there much but usually after Trump does something and I check, there are dozens of posts about how great he is and how right he is and all that.

Not a single post from any friend about the speech tonight. He has no juice right now. There are going to be a LOT of migrant caravans massing at our border according to Fox News late summer 2026.

I don't think the Strong On Border Security squad is going to be pointing out migrant caravans this time. I think they'll need to find something else Biden could be responsible for...

You lack imagination - it's clear that the migrant hoards will start forming in July after early polls show the Dems are likely to take control of Congress.  See how easy that is?

So the President went on live tv from the White House last night, in a nationally televised address to the nation, broadcast on every network….. and said prescription drug prices are down 600%. And it’s not like he read the teleprompter wrong like Ron Burgandy and added an extra zero. Nope, he meant to say that. That really happened.

Last time he ranted about drug prices, they were down 1500% so I guess that means that drug prices have more than doubled

The release/non-release of the Epstein files doesn't matter, nothing matters at this point. They could be released and he is in there fucking kids and that wont move the needle with maga.

I try to not engage or read anything at this point (I do Cloak Room a bit lol) because this country is too far gone. It's depressing as all hell.

How much do billionaires have?

Trump just talked about $1776 payments to about 1.4 million military members.  That's about $2.5 billion dollars.

Trump's own net worth went up by about $4 billion when he was given stock in Truth Social, although the stock has gone down since then.  He didn't work for that money, it was a stock grant.  Stack cryptocurrencies and a free airplane on top of that and the pile just gets bigger.

Which is pennies compared to Elon, who is worth about $648 billion.  Elon could give $1776 to each military person, each month, for a year, and it would cost him less than 5% of his net worth.

Siap but surprise, it's just another bullshit grift. https://www.defenseone.com/policy/2025/12/trump-rebrands-congressionally-approved-troop-housing-subsidy-warrior-dividend-bonus/410250/

You’re not wrong, but focusing on a single Trumpian logical inconsistency is like trying to bail out a sinking boat with a teaspoon, while half the doomed passengers are convinced the boat’s main threat is DEI at the Coast Guard.

I'm quite sure the 62 year dead John F Kennedy really is taking the congratulations to heart.

For every 1 celebrity in Hollywood that supports him there are 99 that don't.  But don't let facts get in Karoline's way.

Yeah, like I saw somewhere. The second worst thing to happen to JFK…

They will need a task force to take down all of his bullshit after he is out of office.

she’s mistaking “fashionable” with “cool”. donald trump has made it fashionable to be a loud mouthed, bigoted, racist, xenophobic fucktard, but nobody outside of their own admittedly/alarmingly large circles thinks that these pathetic, remedial class, human adult cosplayers are “cool”.

You know what you don't have to call out as being "cool"?   Things that are cool.

I read that the speech Dotard delivered last night was only 18 minutes long,?   That has to be a record, for getting that buffoon to shut the fuck up or maybe they just cut away and none of his lackies had the courage to tell him.
