We had friends & allies around the world based on alliances & relationships that were built over many decades. In one month, Trump has torched them all. Now our friends are Putin, Orban, the crypto scammer in Argentina, and the guy in El Salvador offering us mercenary prisons.

Brilliant but devastating editorial in the Financial Times. “In the past 10 days, he [Trump] has all but incinerated 80 years of postwar American leadership. If you are not at the table, you are on the menu. America has turned.”

I was imagining it as if he was an Arab with the chainsaw screaming about how he was going to bring pain and suffering to 100s of thousand Americans. It probably would have been viewed differently if his name was Abdul instead on Elon.

Evoking Chainsaw Al Dunlap.  Which ended so well for him and his targets.

Albert John Dunlap (July 26, 1937 – January 25, 2019) was an American corporate executive.[2][3] He was known at the peak of his career as a professional turnaround management specialist and downsizer. The mass layoffs at his companies earned him the nicknames "Chainsaw Al"[4] and "Rambo in Pinstripes", after he posed for a photo wearing an ammo belt across his chest.[5] It was later discovered that his reputed turnarounds were elaborate frauds and his career was ended after he engineered a massive accounting scandal at Sunbeam Products, now a division of Newell Brands, that forced the company into bankruptcy.[6] Dunlap is on the lists of "Worst CEOs of All Time" published by several business publications.[7][8]

We need more of this.

A topless feminist has protested against the hard-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as the polls opened in a high-stakes German election.

The half-naked activist of the women's rights group FEMEN protested against the AfD in front of the German embassy in Kyiv, this morning. The woman had a fake beard as well as short hair styled just like Adolf Hitler.

She wore traditional German Lederhosen and had a red Nazi band painted on her arm. The words 'Heil Weidel' and 'Weidel Putin sl**' were written on the woman's chest and back.

So he is mentioned in a book I read called “ Good To Great” and it’s about 11 companies that performed better than their peers over a long period of time. He was a terrible leader and none of his companies were on the list of profitable companies

I guess being a raging asshole and chasing short term gain is actually counterproductive

Not sure what you expect from him. Even if he did/does read it, do you think he'll recoil in horror over the damage done? No, that motherfucker is giddy with joy over all of this. He's a true believer as a member of the New Right and dreams of the US becoming akin to a monarchy with a national leader also being the head of the church. That guy has gone so far down the rabbit hole, you might as well just consider him clinically insane because his political philosphy is rooted in an entirely different universe where any civilizing notions of equality, rights, or democracy aren't seen as virtues.

I guess another option would be something like a "unity government" or whatever a Left/Right coalition that excludes the fascists like that would be called. Really, from my perspective, that would be the only hope.

Yeah. Either way almost 20% is eye opening for the AFD.

And can a coalition agree on some key issues?

Lets move it there. Yes, but they are pretty far apart on some big issues. Migration is one.

Do you have to “go down the rabbit hole” if you were always already at the bottom. Think about that guys embarrassing ass life and you’ll understand why he thinks about other people the way he does. He’s hateful because he isn’t what he wanted but instead of taking introspection he’d rather harm others.

I dunno. We'll see if this is a "come to Jesus" moment to work together for liberal democracy in Germany and Europe. I've got a few German friends from college and high school days (mix of fmr foreign exchange students and time I spent in Europe), and they've been pretty active on FB discussing mobilizing for protests against the Rechts.

May be an image of text that says 'Größte Demo gegen rechts Wann? 23.2.25 8:00 8:00-18: 18:00 Uhr Wo? In deinem Wahllokal'

What's amusing/amazing is those that come from repressive, dictatorial, and sometimes communist, regimes are the most reflexively anti-"socialist," but also extremely willing to embrace the anti-democratic authoritarians.

In icono's case, it's fleeing a repressive religious dictatorship (Iran) only to advocate for a repressive religious dictatorship in the new country half a century later.

Maybe immigration isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Everything in the American government is non-stop performative imbecility. Just a pressurized stream of soggy content precision-guided to target absolute dolts and pudding-heads.  Trump was elected by a coalition of people who buy drop-shipped “I am very badass” t-shirts off of Facebook.  It’s their country now and we all have to live in it.

I guess you might have missed his old comment about who doesn't read the Financial Times, which had racist undertones.    In other words, it was a joke for us, not a serious question for him.

I read that book. It didn’t age well. For example, one of the “great” companies it recognized was Circuit City.
