The practice of displaying heads on pikes in a row, also known as impalement or decapitation, has been used in various cultures and historical periods as a form of public punishment, warning, or trophy. This practice serves to intimidate and instill fear in the populace, demonstrating the power of the authorities or the brutality of war.

There's no scene chillier than this one. : r/thewalkingdead

Immigrants are less likely to commit crimes. Are they also going to put up pictures of all the legal residents who commit crimes? I don't think the White House lawn is big enough.

They should start with 34 photos of Trump.

Yep.  And all that the liberals have to do is paint Poilievre as a Canadian Trumpist (they say all the same shit)....which they did.  Effortlessly, really.

I am not a man given to ANY hope these days.  But it is POSSIBLE that one silver lining of Trump functionally declaring war on the entire world (yes, MAGAs, that's what launching a trade war against literally every country (except Russia and such, of course), and characterizing those countries as our enemies (his actual word) does) is that in the rest of the world, Trump-style right-wing autocrat/fascist/racist candidates are much less attractive than they once were.  The Economist did a whole piece on this.  We'll see how it turns out, but if you are in a country that Trump has recently shit on and threatened your trade and/or sovereignty (so....every country), Trump is becoming a toxic brand.

He is gaining support for Canada like Putin did for Ukraine.

SIAP. I considered putting this in the Elon thread, but he is only one of many who favor this manipulation:

1/8 Elon Musk now has access to over 300+ gov’t data fields on Americans—income, debts, medical history, immigration status, even addiction treatment. This isn’t about efficiency. It’s about emotional leverage. Here’s how it powers neurotargeting. #Voices4Victory #DemVoice1 #USDemocracy #ProudBlue

Read the entire thread for more. This type of neurotargeting is very effective, although people dismiss it as something to which they are not susceptible. But that isn't true. It has worked on voters in past elections, it worked on citizens during the pandemic, and with the information silos where many reside it will keep growing.

Here's the rest of it, spoilered for length:

  Reveal hidden contents
2/8 Neurotargeting works best when it knows what you fear, need, & rely on. If someone controls your financial, medical, & legal data, they don’t just know who you are. They know how to manipulate your emotions when you’re most vulnerable—& weaponize that for control. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/us/politics/trump-musk-data-access.html?unlocked_article_code=1.CU8.QstM.kZffXPKtxWZt&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
3/8 Example: You’re behind on taxes, receiving disability, recently unemployed, and flagged for depression. This system could use that profile to target you with messages that trigger fear, shame, paralysis, or false hope—designed to keep you compliant and quiet. https://bsky.app/profile/digitalwarrior.bsky.social/post/3lnmmddurhs2x [contains quote post or other embedded content]

4/8 It’s not just your data. It’s your patterns. Your routines, relationships, addictions, and pain points. That creates a trigger map: what breaks your confidence, what calms your outrage, what makes you distrust yourself—or stop believing change is possible.
5/8 With 300+ fields from systems like the IRS, Social Security, Education, HUD, and Health & Human Services, neurotargeting moves from messaging to behavioral conditioning. They don’t just market to you. They shape your decisions—under stress, and often in crisis.
6/8 This isn’t theory. It’s already happening through public-private “efficiency” partnerships. What Musk’s DOGE unit is building is a cognitive control system—designed not just to optimize bureaucracy, but to govern people by emotional influence and psychological pressure.
7/8 When platforms and political machines can fuse your personal vulnerabilities with AI-driven emotion tracking, the result isn’t convenience. It’s soft authoritarianism. You won’t see it coming. You’ll just feel more alone, anxious, disoriented—and obedient.
8/8 If they control how you feel when you’re afraid, tired, or ashamed—they don’t need to censor you. They just need to steer you. That’s what neurotargeting backed by federal data looks like. #Neurotargeting #Voices4Victory #DigitalRights #CognitiveFreedom

Yeah but it would be so much more efficient if all of the bureaucracy knew all of these things

Not to pop your bubble but... Pretty sure that's always the case as US bound passengers go through US  immigration and US customs in Canada and fly as a domestic passenger, essentially. So no duty free allowance.

So are the Canadians going to elect Carney to make Trump his bitch?  Fingers crossed ...

Polls are closing in Eastern Canada, you can follow along with the live election results on Bloomberg's interactive page. #Elxn2025 #CanadaElections2025 https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2025-canada-election-results/?utm_source=website&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=twitter

Oh - and bonus points to Carney for raising a daughter who by all accounts seems to be poised, engaged and not at all vapid like her U.S. counterpart ...

Yeah, I’m truly unsure. It’s been 5 years since I’ve flown out of Canada, but even though we clear customs there, I thought duty free was outside of that. But my memory could surely be wrong,

Mostly performatave shit.  A couple of things stand out.

The Attorney General shall take all appropriate action to create a mechanism to provide legal resources and indemnification to law enforcement officers who unjustly incur expenses and liabilities for actions taken during the performance of their official duties to enforce the law.  This mechanism shall include the use of private-sector pro bono assistance for such law enforcement officers.

a)  Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security and the heads of agencies as appropriate, shall increase the provision of excess military and national security assets in local jurisdictions to assist State and local law enforcement.
(b)  Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Attorney General, shall determine how military and national security assets, training, non-lethal capabilities, and personnel can most effectively be utilized to prevent crime.

Somewhere, there are internal discussions ongoing on what the new hourly "rate" will be for this pro bono work.

I mean, holy shit ...

Section 1.  Purpose and Policy.  Safe communities rely on the backbone and heroism of a tough and well-equipped police force.  My Administration is steadfastly committed to empowering State and local law enforcement to firmly police dangerous criminal behavior and protect innocent citizens.

When local leaders demonize law enforcement and impose legal and political handcuffs that make aggressively enforcing the law impossible, crime thrives and innocent citizens and small business owners suffer.  My Administration will therefore:  establish best practices at the State and local level for cities to unleash high-impact local police forces; protect and defend law enforcement officers wrongly accused and abused by State or local officials; and surge resources to officers in need.  My Administration will work to ensure that law enforcement officers across America focus on ending crime, not pursuing harmful, illegal race- and sex-based “equity” policies.

The result will be a law-abiding society in which tenacious law enforcement officers protect the innocent, violations of law are not tolerated, and American communities are safely enjoyed by all their citizens again.

Seriously, America, it's time to wake up ...

None of the “anti-authoritarian libertarian” types are actually against an authoritarian government. They only have a problem with a hypothetical authoritarian government that acts against “real Americans” (good conservative white folks). That government can crush as many minorities and liberals as it wants, and they won’t have a single problem with it.
“I’m a libertarian” may be the biggest political lie of the last 50 years. I haven’t seen a one who has the slightest concern about a right wing authoritarian government.

We'll see how performative it is.

A weird amount of suggestions that local and state control of law enforcement will be stripped away and placed under federal control.
