Doubt I’ll see another game in person unless I get free tickets or at the behest of one of my kids. Prices are obscene, people are dicks, and the commercial breaks are downright ludicrous

now get off my lawn

And don't cross the driveway to my lawn either, hotshot!

Counterargument: a bunch of anonymous 60 year olds trying to analyze the thought processes of 16 year olds has never been "fun", it's always been gross.

When I was in my early 40's I had that "These guys are old enough to be my kids" moments and started to care a little less.   I'm 55 now and it's wont be that long until they could be my grandkids.   Now, when one of them does something dumb off the field or on, I just don't let it get to me anymore.   Not my rodeo, not my clowns.

I was in Austin on T/W this past week and was in West Campus dropping one of the Macanudo-ettes off at her friend's apartment in West Campus.   Damn, I felt really, really old and extremely out of place.

There are a whole lot of grown ass men on the football board who hold 85 kids to a far higher standard than they hold themselves.

Was at a wedding a few weeks ago. Groom is my son's best friend and grew up in my house. A second son. So I got to be the last "old" invited to have the celebratory cigar at the end. Venue was closed, but we were allowed to stay. Got hit on by a bad ass 35 year old  Navajo chick. I did not proceed, should have.

Sometimes I fit in, living in San Marcos I am surrounded by the yutes.  But when they start talking about their lives I get lost. Asked the collected 27ish year olds what was the last book they read. Silence. Oh and I have to have an instagram account to see the wedding pictures.

Yeah, I felt out of place.

I'm just relieved that apparently shitstain Trump is quiet enough today that some of you all can have your midlife crisis on this thread.

There's the "maga ruined sports" thread but I think its closer to us terminally online folks ruined it.  That thread is disgusting.  Really bad. I quit paying close attention for quite a few years for various reasons but still check in occasionally due to neighbors talking.  Every once in  a while I take a look at the football board.   A whole lot of ugliness on that board in general.  Many seem they've never really been having fun.  And the amount of seriousness people take in analyzing every little thing is cringe.  The 'pussy' talk or what not.  Ugh.  Then there is the misery on just about every game thread.  Gross.  And the total 'clever' repeated surly-isms (ha ha, 'ass water'?).  Cringe.

That train of thought put out there, I see it on other sports discussion sites too.  Not unique to Surly.  We all distract ourselves in some fashion. I think there may be healthier distractions than online sports boards and most pro sports fandom in general.

I enjoy positing and reading theories about why middle aged men succeed or fail at coaching.

But too many people get really strident about their theories and treat them as irrefutable fact and anyone that questions them is an idiot or pederast or idiot pederast.

just went out to the pumpkin patch at the methodist church in taylor, tx and saw a nine year old boy open carrying a small pistol on his right hip in an expensive holster, and a knife on his left hip, same as his dad, who you already know had on shades, a mustache, a sleeveless t shirt with an american flag, and a scowl. fuck these people.

The House reconvenes on 10/28. Wonder what excuse  the creepy youth pastor will use for refusing to swear in the newly elected AZ. Congresswoman?

I laughed.  Speaking of old, during certain points in a sports game when the game looked to be clearly won by one side, my Father would say "It's all over but the shouting."  To me that's now applicable to Trump and the US.

So now he’s expanding it to early voting, not just mail-in.  That’s new.

Was about to post this. Now they're going after early voting? So we all get to stand in line for 12 hours on election day while ICE questions us?

Outside of the special circumstances of 2020 isn't it pretty much the case that Republicans are by far the bigger users of early voting?  The harassment angle is certainly valid.

A lot of deep Red Trump voting rural areas are *extremely* dependent on SNAP. Pretty much all of Appalachia is deep red on that map, plus Tennessee, large parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, also N. Michigan, N. Maine, etc.

Interesting.  I wonder if Dotard would be interested in joining our tumor board this month.  We could make it nationwide and exclusive to his enthusiastic supporter patients.  His recommendations should be binding.

Probably can't find a Bible to use, and Johnson won't allow the distinguished rep-elect to bring her own, because it might not be "authentic" enough.

Trump canceled 94 million pounds of food aid. Here’s what never arrived.

ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cuts.

he wants food riots

I only participate on one Ohio State board. The reason?   That board does not allow bashing players or coaches.
