It’s already been a pain in the ass to get a weekend at Camp Mabry so that’s probably finished.

We are involved in scouting and my daughter is one of those gender bending DEI Woke Cub Scouts that he is bitching about.   We might not be very involved if she weren’t   Well I know we wouldn’t be by half.

Scouts needed to add girls   There’s too many distractions for kids these days as it is (sports, video games, etc).  Many of the older packs and troops were already dying off or had shrunk and way too many of the church-based units are included in that group.  A lot of parents wanted activities for both girls and boys as well (we did) and when I was a kid my sister got dragged along everywhere and she should have been able to join in.

And there were a lot of parents and girls not interested in the cookie-selling Girl Scouts because too many of those groups were focused more on arts and crafts and non-outdoors activities

And  of course Hegseth wasn’t in scouts.  And he really does think like a fucking major.  He really has no idea how a little bit of outreach on the part of the military helps with recruiting.

And he’s too fucking stupid to know that the troops (6th grade and up) are still gender-segregated because puberty (there are pilot programs for “family” troops but those are special groups).

I suppose he will cut JROTC programs in high school next because they have girls and minorities.

But he can shit all over millions of former scouts and piss off a lot of parents and young men and women who just finished high school in recent years, who probably vote at a higher clip than normal America.

Amen, amen.

We just had our first young woman make Eagle out of our Troop.  On paper, because we're required to do so, we have a boys and girls Troop.  But they all work together and effectively operate as a cohesive unit.  Because guess what?  Life is co-ed.  And our Troop is growing with both boys and girls for all the reasons you mention.  Mainly, because it's fun to go outside and do challenging stuff.   Onward and upward.

Gretchen Whitmer has a super fan:

63K likes, 19K comments - politickedrevolt on October 15, 2025: "UPDATE: The voicemail was left for Michigan Rep. @lauriepohutsky, the caller just included Gretchen in her meltdown. We need to be aware that the harassment and threats to legislators are not taken seriously by law enforcement. — As of October 2025, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed several new bills into law, including a budget bill addressing road funding and taxes, measures protecting homeowners and Medicaid, and legislation affecting education.  Signed in early October 2025, the new $81 billion budget was a bipartisan compromise with several key features.  Tax cuts: The budget eliminates state taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security income for three years, with the changes to take effect on January 1, 2026. Roads: The budget includes a long-term plan to invest nearly $2 billion annually for state and local road repairs, a key campaign promise from Whitmer. It redirects all gas tax revenue to roads and includes revenue from a new 24% wholesale tax on marijuana. Education: Record per-pupil funding was included, along with funding for school safety measures, special education, career and technical education, and universal free meals for all K-12 students. Medicaid: The budget secures federal funding for Medicaid by implementing a new insurer tax to replace a previous one that was being phased out. This is intended to protect healthcare access for millions of Michiganders.  Protection for homeowners (HB 4524): This bipartisan bill, signed on September 30, 2025, protects property rights by clarifying rules regarding land and home ownership. It gives owners more time to claim property interests and protects them from surprise claims based on old documents. Rental protections (SB 205-207): These bills, signed on January 2, 2025, prohibit landlords with five or more rental units from discriminating against tenants based on their source of income, including housing assistance programs like Section 8.  #trump #donaldtrump #maga #america #usa #government #politics #foxnews #republican #republicans #democrat #democrats".

I mean, that gal sounded exactly like the measured, sane, rational MAGA types we all know and love.  But I quibble very, very strongly with one thing.

She said Gretchen Whitmer has an ugly butt.  I strongly disagree.  From what I can tell, she has a lovely and tasteful age-appropriate tuchus.  So, that was just uncalled for.

As a former adult leader and long time acting Scout Master, those assholes pretending that the BSA charter mandating no political affiliations does not matter makes me so ragey.

Unfortunately, MAGA is deeply embedded in scouting right now.

I mean, the source problem here is that Kash is solely a sub-par sycophantic social media influencer who was suddenly put in charge of one of the most complex apparatuses in the world -- a challenging mix of legal, intelligence, and law enforcement functions/challenges.  And the often unrecognized fault with such people is that they are SO incompetent that they've never had access to real power (or wealth) before, so when they are handed the keys to the kingdom, they can't HELP but abuse it and loot it for personal gain, like an undisciplined kid given the keys to the candy store.  And in terms of running a complex system, it was like putting a monkey at the stick of an F-35; it was always going to crash, it's just a question of when and how.  The fantastic thing is that the rest of Trump's "hires" are little better.  Kegbreath, Bondi, Homan.  Incompetents and grifters.  Literally the only thing they bring to the table is complete, slavish loyalty to Trump.  Which, not coincidentally, is the only attribute on the planet that he values.

As a current Scout leader, I have seen much less of this.  Like any volunteer organization, I suspect it strongly depends on the quality of volunteers in your local unit.  I can truthfully say that amongst our leadership, I'm not entirely sure where everyone stands politically.  Be we all stand together in the focus on our youth.  Going camping, cleaning up parks, and generally having fun while doing good works should not have to be a political act.

Interesting timing, just got an out-of-the-blue text from one of our cousins (married into wife's side of the family).  He's military academy-educated, served as an officer, and has worked in defense-adjacent fields for 20+ years (no, I don't know exactly what he does, he can't tell us).  My reply was because his text followed an OLD exchange about, well, dinner.

This cousin has long been a "I know it's bad, but it's not THAT bad" guy.  He's smart as hell, an engineer, and on the conservative end.  He bailed on the GOP a while back, but reluctantly.

He and his wife have been involved in refugee assistance for many years. They are conservative and a bit bible-y, but they do walk the walk. He’s a moral guy, so he never had any good feeling for Trump, has always thought he’s scum. But this is a turn for him.

I'm sorry to have to ask this, but which of today's refugee things?  Getting rid of TPS for Somalis?  Americans being detained, shot at and shot for being brown?  I'm sorry, there are just too many options here.

https://www.theverge.com/transportation/829284/republicans-want-to-get-rid-of-car-safety-features-like-aeb

Republicans want to get rid of car safety features like AEB.

All cars are currently required to have automatic emergency braking by 2027. But that mandate could get tossed under a new plan by Senate Republicans to eliminate certain safety rules, in the interest of making cars more affordable. Also under scrutiny are alarms warning if there’s a child left in the rear seat. Weirdly they’re not targeting expensive creature comforts, like heated steering wheels and wireless charging. Just the safety ones.

Same.  I'm part of two different Scout groups - one Boy Scout and one Cub Scout.  I'm a den leader for the pack and on the parent committee for the troop.  I've been on many campouts and other events and I can happily say that politics never came up.  I have occasional thoughts about where certain people stand politically, but it's not germane to what we're doing.  Both groups have a lot of really high-quality people running them, so we've been lucky, I guess.

The thing that pisses me off about kids like this- 100% chance the troop was super lax about merit badge qualifications.  Some our sticklers for checking all the boxes for each badge (like my son's was), and others are like, meh, close enough.  I guarantee you he was in the latter group.
