November 7, 20241 yr Seeing it being reported that he is no longer on the team, but I don’t have much more information. Anybody else got more info?
November 7, 20241 yr My guess is that he openly declared his intent to enter the portal and Sark said, “good luck, son.”

November 7, 20241 yr He pretty clearly did something that got him taken out of the rotation. He did drop some balls on us. Hope he does well at his next place.

November 7, 20241 yr Popular Post Sad to see as he was supposed to be the heir apparent to Worthy. Reports this summer were he had a bad case of the drops. Two of them in games showed that to be true. One was a wide open down field pass for a TD perfectly placed right in his hands. I heard Sark mention in a presser that he needed to try to get Johntay more involved this week but I guess that wasn't good enough for Cook. Those new NIL receivers and the busting on the scene of #0 Moore gives Sark the ability to leave a 5 star with the dropsies on the sideline to work it out. One thing i like about Sark is he plays the best receivers and doesn't switch out to appease folks like Herman did. .... if you are the best available you get to play ... November 7, 20241 yr Guessing partly "why should I bust my ass in practice, when I don't see the field on Saturday" versus "you don't get in the game because you don't run your routes and catch and block in practice" resulting in "you should take your talents elsewhere and quit wasting practice reps here".

Think it is an old familiar story. Highly ranked kid comes in. Gets beat out by a kid in his class (Moore) and a younger player (Wingo). He has been the man all his life and doesnt handle it well. I doubt the coaches wanted him to leave (Bond, Golden, and Bolden likely gone), if Cook was going to compete and have the proper attitude. I have a strong feeling that wasnt the case, but 0 direct knowledge of that.
November 7, 20241 yr Assume that frees up some NIL. Interested in if those contracts have clawbacks if people exit mid season...
November 7, 20241 yr That sucks but not surprising. Something has felt off even going back to last year.
November 7, 20241 yr disappointed that he didn't work out. had high hopes for him. silver lining is that it does convey some serious accountability standards within the program. the drop against msu was particularly awful and he's not really seen the field since.

November 7, 20241 yr Just now, Tex Long said: Yep. Had some right-in-the-hands drops coupled with "wtf, you don't have to knock the CB on his ass, but at least get in his way...". It took about 2 seconds of seeing Ryan Wingo on the field to understand why he was so highly ranked and coveted. Never felt that way to me watching Cook, though obviously he can still have success somewhere.
November 7, 20241 yr Popular Post Not a novel take, but hard to get too pressed when we have Wingo/Moore, maybe an outside shot at Golden, coming back and 3 top 100 freshmen coming in. Add in the fact that we've pulled AD Mitchell, Bond and Golden in the portal in recent years. We've got plenty of players qualified to receive Quinn's 2 yard dump offs this year, he's not really needed.
November 7, 20241 yr When it comes to WR there were just too many cooks in the kitchen. Johntay was arguably about the sixth best WR this year on the team this season, and next year he was clearly going to be behind Wingo and Moore. Then you have the likelihood of a top-shelf transfer WR or two, and then the prodigious incoming freshman talent. He probably would not start in 2025. So this not a loss, really, and just the way of things in college football. If he had attitude issues as well behind the scenes, it makes perfect sense to accelerate the process in his case.
November 7, 20241 yr I’d be curious to see what level of petulance he got to before Sark told him to pound sand.

November 7, 20241 yr This sucks, especially with Bond out. But not unexpected. The transfers coming in kind of put these young guns in a tough spot, they had to actually get out and truly earn the playing time. Truth is Golden, Bolden, Moore were all better and same type of receiver. Wingo is a star too and needs more touches. there was never going to be enough touches to go around.
November 7, 20241 yr It felt like it was trending this way anyway, but I thought it would be when the portal opened up. The "is no longer with the program" is a curious statement though.

November 7, 20241 yr This guy could fly but that's pretty much it. Lazy blocker and stone hands. And with Lockett, Ffrench, and McCutcheon coming in next year not much room for him to learn on the fly.

Handwriting was kinda on the wall when Sark brought in 3 WRs in the portal last spring. With more depth of talent on the roster, folks not getting reps will continue to portal -- it's just way CFB is nowadays.
