Did not know that and just read about it. Wow, that sucks.

I wonder if he was already down a bad path, or did his crash at UT send him down that road?

He was a top student in high school. CTE? Robert Joseph Syndrome (RJS)?

That's terrible and sad.

I'm confused. Why ditch it after you clear security? Just in case you have second thoughts about flying into a more unreasonable state?

My guess is he was looked after pretty well in El Paso (first 5 star ever to come from there) and when he got the ATX, he fell in to the welcoming hands of bad influencers and it was all over for him.  Maybe an element of bright  lights big city got hold of him.    I remember Mack gushing over him when he used to do those signing day resume talks.

I'd imagine it's for international travel.  Don't want to get busted importing drugs.

I can't imagine anyone dumb enough to toss out drugs after clearing security if they are flying domestic ...unless, or course, you're already high and paranoid.

Not saying I've used the disposal option, but accidents happen. I was flying back to Texas from Arkansas the day after this year's UT-Arkansas game. The night before I had sampled a friend's Arkansas legal pen and apparently placed it in my pocket. We had been drinking all day before, during, and after the game. As I am walking up to TSA counter the next day, wearing the same pair of shorts, I reach into my pocket for my ID and I pull out said pen and ID.

Backpacks and luggage make good hiding spots at home, but sometimes you forget to check all the pockets before leaving for the airport.

Dumb question, as I don't partake:  if you try to fly with weed product from a state where that product is legal, does "security" care if you're landing in a state where it's not legal?  Do they screen on that basis?

Nobody cares domestically. After international arrivals, you may see a drug dog, but that is extremely rare. The beagle brigade looking for unlawful food and seeds is what's the most common search in the USA.

That's funny, I saw one of those beagles flag a guy when were in line at customs (Frankfurt -> DFW).  Agent asks the passenger about undeclared food, guy denies it, agent says "sir the dog is telling me you have food in your carryon" and the guy finally capitulates to smuggling grapefruit into Texas from Germany.  That's a special kind of stupid.

Those dogs work 12 hours a day for 12 years, then lay down and die. Can't imagine having that much energy.

My uncle did that at an airport in Santa Fe about 10 years ago.  So glad the news did not catch wind because he was CEO of one of the largest grocery chains in the country at the time, and it would have been really embarrassing.  He had it in a backpack and just had forgotten about it.

Fine was like $15k. He lost his pre-check for 5 years or so.  What's crazy is they let him fly.  He just had to go put his gun in his truck.

Have you ever had a German grapefruit?

This. Also people need to stop saying “weed” like we are still in the days of a bag of weed and rolling paper. THC products are much more common in vape pens (oil infused THC) and edible products most commonly gummies. These are not something a dog is trained to find. My favorite product is a hydration powder that I mix with a vodka soda at the airport bar.

Is that the one where a prostitute named Hilda puts a ball gag in my mouth?  If so, no.

This is a reminder that flying with weed is a felony offense. Just because your state legalized it doesn't make it legal. ORD has weed drop boxes just past all TSA checkpoints if you forgot to leave it at home.

It's hilarious they put the boxes AFTER the TSA checkpoints. Who gets through security with weed and then tosses it?!?!?!?

TSA doesn't care about weed at all unless it's very large quantities. They even have a section on their website where they say they don't care about weed.

You druggies are so hopped up on doobies that you can't even read.  Your link says TSA officers are required to report any suspected violations of law to local, state or federal authorities.

Can speak to this.

First, I flew into Puerto Vallarta this past May with cartridges purchased here in CO. 0 fucks given at DEN airport, when landed in PVA, I had read online that I should keep them on my person, but my wife insisted that I put them in luggage, so I didn’t bother making a stink about it. Put them in luggage, scanner noticed them, local police tried to threaten me with jail, my wife luckily fluent in Spanish argued and asked how much money he wanted, and he demanded $100 per cartridge (I had 2) and he wanted to keep them (to then sell/use himself) but my wife argued that we’d keep them for that amount which we did get to keep and got full enjoyment out of them at the beach and resort. I def told her I told ya so after that as you don’t even walk through a scanner yourself, just your luggage.

Second, over 10 years ago now, I flew back from Brussels with a half oz of flower I copped in Amsterdam. They checked my bag post scan and then also flagged my bag for an additional manual search at the gate in front of everyone and they took a bunch of shit out of my carryon, but still didn’t find the weed or confiscate anything. Definitely had me sweating and this was pre legalization in the US, so I wouldn’t do this today, but I was definitely smoking fire Amsterdam weed at ACL that weekend when I came back.

The trick: put your weed in double bagged ziplocs inside of socks or jean pockets and pack like normal in your carryon. Never check the bag.

found dead in an el paso hotel room. dre was just an overgrown kid who, because he was a football star, got treated like he was above everyone else, and above the law. he could have been a star at Texas and a 10 year pro, but he, like so many other guys during this period under mack brown, had zero supervision; nobody checking to make sure he was keeping his nose clean, nobody to make sure that he (they) was focusing on football and school. just a bunch of young, entitled, star athletes with lots of under-the-table cash on hand and open doors all over downtown and campus. what a sad time in Texas Football history.

Mack kind of oversteered in correction due to that group.  Believe that group made him avoid anyone who he thought was a character risk.  And character risk to Mack included guys who might want to wait until signing day to commit.  So we got a lot of suburban maxed out 3 star types who would commit in March.  Some would get a courtesy 4 star because of the Texas offer.  Mack bragging about only making 27 offers and getting 25 commits drove me absolutely nuts.  It meant the bottom half of the class was weak.

Mack was lucky the 2005 class, which was small, hit at such a high rate and that McCoy panned out.

fozzy whittaker was next door to antwan and shared a bathroom with him. jermichael finley was across the hall. fozzy was quiet, studious, always doing the right thing. J Mike was in his dorm early every night with his baby momma, focusing on getting to the NFL to take care of his family. and then you just had this goof troop of guys just going in and out of antwan’s dorm, skipping class, skipping meetings, showing up late to rehab, smelling like weed and not trying to hide it, and just living like they had “made it” already. in all honesty, even though i’m 3-4 years older than all of those guys, i actually needed to grow up a bit myself, and i was honestly influenced by watching the way fozzy and J Mike handled themselves to change my own dumbass ways so that i didn’t end up like antwan (kicked out of UT weeks before getting his degree), j’marcus (failed out after one year), rob joe, dre, and the rest of their crew.

since we’re telling stories from that time period, one time a few guys wouldn’t stfu during study hall, and the coaches said that everyone was going to have to pay for it. jared norton stood up and more or less said, “fuck that, i ain’t getting punished for these dumbasses”, and he told on the guys who wouldn’t stfu, one of whom was montre webber. now i don’t know if everyone here is familiar with these two, but webber was probably 6’2”, and like 190 lbs iirc. meanwhile norton was something like 6’3”, 235 lbs, and one of those quiet, nerdy guys who you just shouldn’t piss off.

well, montre took exception to this and confronted jared norton outside of jester, and when i tell you that jared norton beat the BRAKES off of montre webber…boy. i have never seen an ass whooping like that. norton got webber on the ground almost immediately and then just proceeded to pummel him with a flurry of fists that seemed impossibly fast for a man of his size. nobody fucked with jared norton again after that lol.
