Wow. That's really heartwarming.

I hope SMU beats him and Syracuse by 15 touchdowns.

Can someone please alert Immamac that recent site update keeps opening the Johntay Cook is Dismissed from the team thread on BurnOrange&White's computer and forcing him to post on it?

  • Theft? At least the cops didn't have to tell him to drop it.

Credit his agent. Guarantee that is 100% on him, not Johntay.

MAYBE he has truly turned it around. But we are far from knowing.

I'm mostly with @TreatyOak on this one, but it's definitely a "show me more than social-media posts" situation. And it's probable that a 10-TD season at Syracuse does far more to impress people than a thousand hours of sincere community service.

On the other hand, even if it is just his agent, at least Cook is listening to somebody when he doesn't seem to have been clued in before.

It only takes seconds to destroy a reputation. It can take a lifetime to build it back.

I certainly don't know, nor do I claim to know.

However, I'm impressed with two things:

He is trying to project a very different image than the one he did last year.
He was given a chance at a major program, when so many here (including me) said he was finished.

A very wise chairman of a company I worked at once said something in a meeting that I really like:
Everybody gets a lucky break. Only a few people are smart enough to take advantage of it."

So many of us here said Johntay was finished. Heck, I thought no legit school would touch him.

I'm really impressed with how he is trying to signal that he has a changed attitude and I think regardless if he makes the league, by getting another chance, he has become a success story, of sorts.

Trashing Taylor Swift was such a bozo move by a washed-up rocker. Really embarrassing.

I hate to wade into whatever this is, but can someone provide an honest answer to what happened with Dave Grohl that would trash his reputation as a rock legend?

Had a kid outside of his marriage and got caught and publicly exposed by his wife on social media.  Not exactly branching into new territory for a rock star,  but Dave has/had a pretty broad, mainstream following.

Reminds me of the tragedy of Bob the bridge builder.

Not defending that, but it does sound pretty rock & roll.

Last summer at his concert in Europe, he made a strange, random comment about Taylor Swift being fake and him being authentic.

Grohl quipped that his band calls their tour the "Errors Tour" because they "actually play live," referencing Swift's Eras Tour.

Aside from it being an uncalled-for comment at someone who is propping up the entire entertainment industry and providing plenty of $ for the cities lucky enough to host her concerts, his shitty concert was sparsely attended. Of course, the Swifties have been harassing him since. Following that, he got exposed for his personal life issues.

Okay, got it. I assumed that was just a given. The dude who OD’d from the Foo Fighters pullled the “do you know who I am? let’s go upstairs and fuck.” maneuver on my wife and a friend of hers on a beach in Cabo about a year before he kicked it. It seems like par for the course for a rockstar.

Ha. I wasn’t on the trip. It was more comical than anything. They had to ask him who he was once he made the pass. Must have been deflating.

Quite a few artist made comments about Swift and the Eras Tour, not just Grohl and all of them can get bent.  The Eras tour is by far the most impressive concert I have ever been to and it’s insane that Swift was able to do that for like two straight years.

"The Eras Tour concerts were typically around 3 hours and 15 minutes long, featuring a setlist of 44-46 songs. Some shows even extended to 3 hours and 45 minutes. The tour spanned 149 shows across 51 cities in 21 countries between March 2023 and December 2024."

I would like to see Dave Grohl try to drag his tired ass around stage for three hours.

Oh no a rock and roll musician said something bad about a country artist and committed adultery how awful just what is wrong with that rock music those kids are listening to these days I think I'm getting the vapors here won't someone think of the children next thing you know they'll say he used illegal drugs oh no.

Washed-up rocker embarrassing himself by taking non-factual shots at the world's biggest performer is lame.

Oh TreatyOak dear I love you so

But you've got a hell of a lot to learn about rock n roll

The Foo Fighters are crap. Everlong is a pretty good song but they have to be the most overrated band ever. Same shit as Nickelback and Creed but somehow the whole world hated Nickelback and loved the Foo

Damnit Johntay, look what you started.

The Foo Fighters are basically Taylor Swift for white guys so that seems a bit hypocritical.

Also who gives a fuck if he cheated on his wife. Although that sounds like the type of thing that Foo Fighters fans would admonish him for.

I like some of their stuff fine but it is crazy how nothing else that they ever did comes within a mile of that track. (Okay Times Like These is pretty damn good too...)

If there was ever a song to be played in a car on a highway with no speed limit it’s My Hero by Foo Fighters. Maybe Be Quiet and Drive by Deftones is up there too

Learn to Fly is pretty good.

I heard it was inspired by a threesome their drummer had in Cabo with some married chick and her friend.

I was wondering why Johntay Cook was suddenly on everyone’s lips typing fingers and instead find 65 year old dudes white knighting for Taylor Fucking Swift. What in the fuck.

Pffft. Johntay's a derailment, and this thread is a derailment of a derailment. Surly is the Land of Infinite Derailment.

And just as well, because a discussion of rockstars and CTJ's wife is way better than beating Johntay's pedestrian flameout to death some more. As a participant myself, I am torn between wanting him to succeed and hypocritically waiting for him to make things worse.

22 minutes ago, Rimbo said:

Then I say you have to prove it with a better rockstar story than CTJ, or at least some remotely related but surpassingly embarrassing yarn about somebody
