He’s always been money.

May 29May 29 Holy shit I didn't realize that was a turd I dropped in the punch bowl. For the dim-witted among us, I wasn't referring to Grohl's pseudo-feud with his friend Taylor Swift. I was referring to his image as one of the "good guys" of rock being permanently tarnished by his affair and how he handled it. It was pretty off-handed, but leave it to surly to go batshit crazy.

May 30May 30 Popular Post A couple of years ago, I got invited to cover Troy Aikman, who visited a Domain bar in North Austin to introduce his light beer, EIGHT. I enjoyed talking to him, but the reason he impressed me was because of this: The event was in a private, press area in the back of the bar. After a while, he left us and went over to the public part of the bar and started pouring his beer for fans who had come in hoping to meet him. He spent a good amount of time with them and was incredibly nice in general. Dude is 100% authentic.

Went to a high school graduation last night and bumped into a girl that I’ve probably known since we were in kindergarten (she’s now a mostly gray-haired mom to at least one high school graduate). Her son graduated 👨🎓 and is going to Syracuse in the fall to study journalism (sports broadcasting?), so this hits close to home.
May 30May 30 I once bumped into Hulk Hogan at LAX. I was deciding what newspaper to buy at the news stand and grabbed one and turned right into him, said sorry and looked up and saw him. He didn’t say a thing, this was during his divorce so he probably wasn’t in the best mood.

June 1Jun 1 One time my brother and I were hanging out at the Gallant Knight(?) in Houston and ended up taking MDMA with Scarface and his girlfriend. Very cool people. That’s all I’ve got. I enjoyed the hell out of the Gallsnt Knight the few times I was fortunate to attend. A fucking +

June 1Jun 1 Judge Larry Joe Doherty of “Texas Justice” fame once performed as my band’s opening act at a wine bar in downtown Brenham. He read his cowboy poetry. Also, a man claiming to be Kevin Black, Clint Black’s brother, once joined my band for a rendition of Jumping Jack Flash at a bar called The Upper Deck in Willis. Once Jim Edmonds glared at me from the outfield in Houston when my buddy yelled “Hey Edmonds, catch these balls” right when he was trying to make a play. He dropped the ball, loaded the bases with a credited error, and one batter later Lance Berkman crushed a grand slam for the win. To this day, we believe that we won that game for the Astros. Those were my brushes with celebrity. Like Icarus, I flew too close to the sun.

June 1Jun 1 I wouldn't recognize 99 percent of celebrities if their publicists beat me up (although I'd recognize @TreatyOak if he had to be the enforcer). But the first interview I did at UT was with Darrell Royal in his office after he became AD; was there because, surprisingly enough, nobody else on the Cactus yearbook staff wanted to do the interview. DKR got a phone call he had to take while answering questions, so while waiting, I just looked around his office at the pictures of him hanging with LBJ and golfing with Willie. When he got off the phone, he said, "Sorry. That was Bart Starr." I also went out once with former Cactus staffer Piper Rountree, convicted of murdering former UT professor Fred Jablin. I was an awkward guy, and I'm kinda glad for that.

Movie magic!

Did he show up because Dick Dodd was scheduled to perform, or was it a coincidence? So many questions.
