I passed Danny Devito on the 101 about 10 years ago, he was driving a convertible and could barely see over the steering wheel.

Great story. Thanks for sharing.

In the late 90s to mid 00s before my grandfather passed away, a bunch of Astros used to hunt deer at our ranch in Frio County.  My granddad and Drayton McLane were close friends -- my granddad is the one who convinced McLane to buy the team after his group's bid did not work out because John McMullen wanted to include several dog tracks.  Lance Berkman and Shane Reynolds hunted with us 3-4x per year.  Reynolds and one of my uncles are close friends.  Shane also lived down the street from my parents in the 1990s. And then when they moved he later bought the house across the street from them after he sold that monstrosity of a house he built in Sweetwater to Tracy McGrady.

So I hunted with Oswalt, Bagwell, Billy Wagner, Adam Everett, Wade Miller, Bill Spiers, Mike Williams (a reliever we got from Pittsburgh), Scott Elarton, and quite a few others.

Spiers is a great dude.  I loved hunting with him.

Gene Stallings hunted with us a lot too.  Did not care for him.  He is a prick.

Johnny Baker, who played for the Oilers and is Lance Berkman's father in law, would hunt with us.  Baker is a big Second Baptist guy and would bring Ed Young along a couple times per year. Dr. Young would lead a short devotional by the camp fire after dinners.

Nolan Ryan and his wife came into the shitty little cafe/diner I worked at in high school.  No one realized who it was except me, and I watched as he grabbed two menus himself and went to sit at an 6 top table just him and her.  I wasn't a server but used my guile and cunning (begged my server friend to let me take their drink order) to chat with him for a few seconds.  I really wanted him to put me in a headlock and pretend to punch me in the face so I could get my own photo version of what happened to Robin Ventura, but that seemed an odd request.  Can confirm he is a good tipper and not an asshole.

I did a project with Nolan Ryan. Asked him if he wanted anything to drink, and he requested a Dr Pepper. I told him we had every other soft drink except Dr Pepper. He shook his head, genuinely perplexed, and responded, "Now why would someone not have Dr Pepper?"

One time right after college I was shooting pool at the Cub in Shreveport. I was good and drunk and decided to step out the back to get some fresh air and smoke a cigarette. I busted out of the door and startled a girl who looked very confused. The girl was Jennifer Garner and the door I used I guess was supposed to be locked. Dumbfounded, I looked at her and the only thing that came out of my mouth was "What are YOU doing here?" She responded in a very nice way, "Shooting a movie." Then I noticed all these people staring at me so I walked back inside and kept playing pool.

I was sequestered in Maggie Mae's one night when Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan were shooting some shitty movie all around central Texas.  Rotel & The Hot Tomatoes were playing.  I got bored, decided to leave, exited while security made a bad attempt to stop me, turned right on the sidewalk and ran full frontal into Meg wearing a teddy, walking west with Quaid.  I heard a director's "cut" and decided I needed to be gone.  Still, Meg Ryan in a teddy.

Was an extra in the UT film "My All American" about Freddie Steinmark.  Got to go fanboy on Jordan Shipley on set (nobody else knew who he was) and asked him about the kickoff return to the house vs blowu in '08.  It was awesome (Chris Farley voice).  Also got yelled at by DKR in the film Aaron Eckhart for being a terrible actor.

Worked at Dennis Quaid's charity golf tournament down at Onion Creek one time at one of the tee boxes handing out gatorades.  Chopped it up with Too Tall Jones who looked like he could still play.  Heckled Jason Seahorn when he shanked his drive real bad.  Quaid was a coked up prick.  Wasn't asked back.

I've worked with both Quaid brothers and they are both insane assholes.
Our neighbors growing up in Fort Worth were B.J. Thomas, Norm Bulaich, and the TCU AD and head football and baseball coaches.

Aaron Eckhart should have yelled at the screenplay writers and the director. It's cool that you were on the set, but that is one, amateurish, hokey, Disney Channel piece-of crap movie.

I use Shreveport as my home airport.

I have been on multiple flights with Tim Brando and have set next to him several times and have talked sports from on the flight.  Despite the opinion of him on here (all not entirely wrong) and what he gets caught up saying on the broadcast, he does speak favorably about Texas on a personal level.

Back when he was still alive, I shared a few flights with Eddie Robinson, the former HC at Grambling University.  He was one of the nicest persons I have ever met.  He would often invite Grambling alums or students to an event that he was going to.

I sat next to the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson several times and exchanged small talk.  The last time was about a week before he was elected as Speaker.  Haven't seen him since for obvious reasons.

Shared a flight with former President Jimmy Carter coming back from South Africa.  Once airborne, he walked through the plane introducing himself and shaking everyone's hand.

Have sat next to former MLB player and HoFer Lee Smith a few times as well.

My nephew spent several years working in Hollywood with a film crew and met a lotof famous actors….

Christmas Vacation… he said Chevy Chase was a total asshole disliked by all the crew. Nephew once parked by mistake in Chase’s reserved spot at the studio, and Chase burst into the office throwing a loud cussing tantrum…in spite of embarassed apologies.

Blaze - Paul Newman was a fine & thoughtful gentleman who treated them all respectfully. (Shared a few lunch break sandwiches with him). During the cast party after the film was finished, the actress Lolita Davidovich who played Blaze Starr was all over my very shy nephew’s face, teasing him while covering him with wet kisses.

How do you get a word in edgewise?

So, in 2012, my son and I go to Mi Cocina (the original one at Preston and Forest). We walk back to bar area, hop in the only two empty seats at the bar. Right next to us is... Sean Payton and his wife. (I guess they had a house at the time in the Coppell (?) area. My son keeps looking over at Payton, Payton starts to squirm a bit, so eventually I think, "Screw it." Turn to my right and say, "Hi Coach. I'm Lid and this is my son Skippy Lid, Jr. He's gonna burst a pipe unless he says hi and can we impose upon you for an autograph." He laughed, was very gracious.

Sat on an airplane once next to Arie Luyendyk, winner of the 1990 Indy 500. A quiet dude.

Took a piss next to Ross Perot once at the Petroleum Club. I did NOT look at him and say, "Nice cock."

On a lesser level, "back in the day," I along with my then scumbag law partner, would go to Sevy's pretty much every Thursday. U.S. District Court Judge Jerry Buchmeyer was there every Thursday. We got to know him and the two people he sat with pretty well. Buchmeyer was a diminutive gentleman, soft spoken. But, he had a penchant for very tall women. The one time I really made him laugh was in 2001, the movie Pearl Harbor came out. We're sitting there, I'm smoking my cigar (yes, you could smoke cigars at the bar back then), looked at everyone and said, "You know, I am not THAT guy who gives away how movies end but in the case of Pearl Harbor, I'm going to. They all look at me like, "sumbitch, you better not!" So, I said ... "The Japanese lose." Buchmeyer looks at me for just a second and busts out laughing. Very smart man.

When I was in high school I volunteered at a camp for children with learning disabilities one summer.  I helped kids work on hand/eye coordination and they sent a large guy over to work alongside me.  At first I didn't recognize him, but then one of the moms asked for his autograph.  It was then Major League player and Brenham baseball legend Cecil Cooper.  He was extremely nice and loved working with the kids.

In my first reporting job, I once sat with Fred Akers in the press box at Leander HS. Can't remember who he would have been there to see. It was a small press box so I introduced myself and tried for about two seconds to exchange pleasantries, but he was having none of it.

I get not wanting to talk to reporters -- I poked fun at journalists myself about six pages ago -- but I was not impressed.

Interviewed David McWilliams a number of times in his office, and he was a lot more down-to-earth and surprisingly unguarded. The last time I talked to him, he prefaced something with, "When I'm gone ..." and I remember being taken aback. He was fired a few months later.
