$521 Billion Annually

Fraud Risk Management: 2018-2022 Data Show Federal Government Loses an Estimated $233 Billion to $521 Billion Annually to Fraud, Based on Various Risk Environments. GAO-24-105833 Published: Apr 16, 2024. Publicly Released: Apr 16, 2024.

Okay, this is the post that did it.  I have been trying to decide if you were just a person with a differing viewpoint, which would be perfectly fine, or if you are unintelligent and part of the MAGA cult.  Turns out, you are an unintelligent person.  First, you use the highest end of the range to try to make your point.  Strike one as being disingenuous.  Second, everyone is against fraud in government spending, except those, I guess, who are committing the fraud or profiting from it in some way.  Third, what DOGE is doing is just wantonly slashing things, mostly in the form of jobs (I suppose because everyone in business knows that payroll is your highest expense).  And, not coincidentally, they are jobs within departments that as a matter of policy the Trump administration and Republicans/conservatives don't like, like USAID and other programs that help mostly poor people. Policy differences are not the same as fraud.  That is totally illogical and, frankly, anti-democratic; strike two. Lastly, the numbers here are a very small fraction of the total budget.  Would everyone like fraud in government spending to be as low as possible?  Of course!  Is it possible for it to ever be zero?  Fuck no!  Whenever you have an organization as large and as complex as the federal government, even a vastly shrunken version of it, fraud will always be possible and it will always happen.  Total failure to understand the way the real world works - strike three.  You're out.

But I honestly hope this happens.  Between once a week mail delivery, cutting government jobs, slashing Medicaid and Social Security, and tariffs it’s almost impossible to imagine a program designed to inflict more pain on MAGA’s voter base.  Enjoy it, rural old America.  It’s even funnier because you’re all too dumb to realize you did it to yourselves. No, see, the fraud is "rampant."

Anecdotal discussions of "fraud, waste, and abuse" are fucking meaningless.  Sure, any one of us can find a dozen stories of someone defrauding the government -- a dentist who bills medicaid for procedures he didn't perform, shit like that.  In a country of 350 million people, there will be lots of examples.

But the STATISTICS on it are what matter.  What percentage of the total medicaid budget is lost on fraudulent claims?  THAT'S the number that matters.  Just like stories of kids stealing packs of chewing gum from 7-11 are bad....but if 7-11's shrink rate is under 2% (which from what I see, it is).....sure, theft sucks, but it's a pretty minimal hit on the bottom line.

The Medicaid fraud rate, estimated by the most aggressive group out there (the lawyers who would bring qui tam claims that get them PAID) is 6.4%.  And yes, 6.4%of the Medicaid budget is a large dollar amount to you and me....but it remains 6.4% of the budget.  AND....if you want to eliminate the 6.4% of fraud from the budget, slashing the budget INDISCRIMINATELY by 6.4% is as dumb a fucking approach as you could take.  Seriously, any business school analysis (not even graduates) would tell you that's pretty much the LAST thing you should do to solve that problem.

Dumbest.  Fucking.  Timeline.

What legitimate grievance could there be against those two groups?

Ain't no "might" about it.  Blaming trannies and browns for all of our ills was 100% the winning play.

The hate engine is the only engine firing on all cylinders these days.  So....the Dems ought to build a fucking V-10 version and stomp on the pedal.  "Republicans hate you -- they want to end your jobs so you end up working for slave wages for billionaires.  They want to take away your healthcare.  They want to close ALL of your schools.  They want you to pay for government handouts to billionaires, while a billionaire pays less in taxes than you do.  They want to hand the land of the free and the home of the working man over to fatcats who shit on gold-plated toilets, and who think that all of you REAL, hardworking Americans, are suckers.  You're not suckers.  You're Americans.  And Americans fight back when someone is screwing them over."  Hell, it doesn't even have to be true (we know this).  Just tight, inflammatory, and repeated incessantly.  Seriously, when a member of the media asks a Dem politician what their favorite flavor of ice cream is.....what I typed should be the answer.

USG went through a complete procurement process for ATC. For any who know that process, it is quite thorough for something that big. I imagine maybe some of the bigs also competed. Lockheed, Boeing, AWS, etc.

It was not a DEI contract. Now consider what was spent on the governments side for that process. Probably more than tree fiddy.

Contract was awarded in 2023. Assume it had a 180 mobilization, launch. Hire people, set up offices, all that shit. Then the right equipment is ordered. Cables, etc.

I bet they had a 12 month window for all that. That is before 1 component is installed.

Fast forward. Trump says it is not working (he read a GAO report?) Elon says he can do it. Elon gets the contract.

All of that cost from USG saying they were thinkng about a new contract for ATC until the decision to say nah, starlink, was already paid for. Probably 5 years of effort (so the contract started the bid process when who was President?) is gone.

Now we start over. Starlink have a out of the box, ready to go system, fully integrated? All parts ordered? Staff on board? Cleared?

Yay?
