Again, I don't think you understand what that report means when it says the government is losing money to fraud. You don't fix that problem by reducing the size of payroll of the government. You fix it by not letting people like Elon promise to provide services in exchange for payment from the government and then not actually provide those services.

You know how you can tell they are not serious about reducing the deficit?

Instead of hiring auditors to go in and find and prosecute people illegally billing the government (The biggest unsubstantiated claim they are making about fraud and abuse) they indiscriminately slash the government workforce of the people whose job is to find WFA.  Claim people cheating on their taxes, fire the IRS auditors; Claim Medicaid fraud, fire the IG; claim illegal billing, fire all the contract specialists.

Then when you are done with your random firing and chaos generation, claim cost savings on all the contracts that were already executed on.  90% of a 5 billion contract is already spent?  Doesn’t matter claim we saved $5B.  Billions of dollars under contract to Farmers for land management, treat them like the plumber at Mar-A Largo and just don’t write the check.  Sure it is a debt we are contractually obligated to pay but what’s GAAP to Trump, he’s already got 34 convictions for fraudulent accounting.

The first part of your post is why it won't work. Unless they conclude with "oh and we hate trannies and browns now too" none of that matters to the average voter. It's why I've given up all hope. Prove the fraud! “Fraud” is just now code for “spending I don’t like”. The actual inspector generals had offices and budgets and their jobs were- get this- to root out waste, fraud and abuse. And they all got fired without new replacements. Those people had to hold actual investigations and then make public findings. Now Elon posts lies and then impounds funds appropriated by Congress. What a great system that is definitely about fraud and not just showy bullshit to distract from firing all the regulators trying to hold his companies accountable

Funny how republicans use fraud and waste interchangeably but stand on legal distinctions between rape and sexual assault

As someone who manages some grant-funded projects that have been paused due to being funded under Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, there is definitely a lot of waste, fraud, and abuse going on.

Waste - Construction projects have been put on hold. It costs money daily to keep equipment on-site, and if you send them home, it costs tens of thousands of dollars to mobilize back out. I'm certain that some projects are being cancelled altogether, costing millions of dollars for zero benefit.

Fraud - The government signed contracts agreeing to pay for a portion of these projects, and some are being cancelled outright, mid-project. That is fraudulent, just like it would be fraudulent for me to take the money and then not work on the project as described in the agreement.

Abuse - None of this shit is authorized by Congress or law. DOGE can't even tell us who is in charge of it, and they are overriding the people who actually are in place to monitor and evaluate Federal employees to fire them based on emails their AI is reviewing.

I think the Sesame Street in Egypt grant is ridiculous just like everyone else does, but there is still someone, probably an American citizen, on the other side of that agreement who in good faith signed a contract from the United States to purchase all the equipment, hire the film crew, relocate to Egypt, and produce that show. There is nothing fraudulent about any of that.

It's also focusing on the minute grain of sand at the expense of the massive boulder right next to it.

Sesame Street in Egypt is .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the US budget.

Literally ANY time of a "let's go after fraud/inefficiencies" effort that focuses on something that meaningless is wasted time and effort that should be spent on something more significant.  E.g., around $900 billion is spent on Medicaid.  6.4% of Medicaid spending is (estimated) to be lost to fraud.  That means around $57 billion.  Focus on things that can cut that in half (if you want a modest goal), and you just saved $28.5 billion.

The fact that the targets are functionally de minimis budget items tells you that this is NOT about actually managing the budget.  It's about performative bullshit, and punishing enemies/ideas that billionaires and Project 2025 don't like.  It is entirely ideological, and not even one tiny bit fiscally conservative.

It's a lie.  Which is all that the GQP can tell these days.  They couldn't speak the truth if their lives depended on it.  And Elon is the worst blend of narcissist/sociopath/psychopath in modern history.  He's the most dangerous man of the last 300 years, and I'm probably way short on that time period.

I'd contribute to a go fund me or something if a bunch of recently laid off federal workers wanted to put together a website...shit, maybe an app...that listed every person or company associated with Project 2025. Link every physical asset they own, or that's owned by their LLC or family trust. Homes, CRE, the tail numbers of their planes, where their yachts are docked...everything. Then maybe link all that to the anarchist's cookbook. You know, for informational purposes only.

Kind of is worth noting that she points out Bozo's refrain that Dems have taken minority votes for granted.  Still, as bad as Dems have been R's have been worse, and Trump's brand of R, worse still.

That fraud is not in the park service or social security. It is in big contracts for big business and in the military-industrial complex. So fat chance any of that goes away.

But, as I have said, even if Elon Musk and DOGE did a great job and massively increased government efficiency while reducing waste and fraud at an almost platonic level...it will all be for nothing because it would be swallowed up in the tax cuts. The debt will continue to grow.

But of course they are actually currently making government very much less able to do its job and don't seem to be cutting much actual waste and fraud.
