The Leopards Eating Faces and Unlubed Dildo of Consequences Thread

Dude, that movie made Gibson richer than god. And that was decades before MAGA. He's gonna get non-stop free promotion from fox, oan, newsmax, etc. Plus dotard will likely require all school aged children to see it.

The GQP will buy out theaters in advance for weeks. It's going to make a billion dollars.

This and he was almost broke before he made it.  He's worth over $400M and almost all of that came from Passion of the Christ.

Disappointing to see burr and chapelle in those pics.

I had this exact conversation yesterday. I hold Burr to a higher standard and I like him but you cannot bitch about billionaires running the world and then do this. I’m interested to see if he addresses it in his podcast.

Wait, the group that burns down buildings and kills people over cartoons of Allah is bringing in a bunch of comedians?  What could possibly go wrong?

How do you tariff a movie?

Well Jesus was a foreigner so if you're gonna use him it's gonna cost you 100% more than say Will Smith

I’m torn.  On the one hand I agree with you, but on the other hand if they don’t police his material, is it a bad thing for Burr and Chappelle to get paid to go over there and roast the shit out of the guys who are paying them and speak truth to power?  Or even if their material is policed, is it a bad thing to get paid to expose their people to these guys’ brand of comedy?  I’m not sure, I tend to assume people sell out.  But I don’t think it’s black and white.

So cute you think the KofSA won’t have restrictions on place on what they can and can’t say.

Here’s what one comedians says was in the contract she turned down:

It really comes down to this: Just about all of these guys have lectured us for telling us that we have no right to come down on them for their jokes and what they say. They tell off color jokes, that’s cool, because free speech and shit.

But then they take money and they are literally letting this group tell them what they cannot say? Fuck that.

And yes to do this show, they are being censored. Atsuko Okatsuka turned down the deal and posted what their contract forbad them from saying.

Well then they might be presented with a real moment of truth.  Either they break the rules and create an international incident, or they confirm their status as sell-outs and lose all credibility as comedians in the right.

I can't understand how these guys have so little self-awareness that they don't see what's coming.  At least as far as Chapelle and Burr go, they're rich, and this is just going to make them a little more rich with horribly tarnished reputations.

My guess is they get to come back and tour off the outrage and then get $20 million from Netflix for the special where the use our freedom of speech here to make jokes about it and call us hypocrites too somehow. At least for Chappelle that’s how it will go.

I think Chapelle has puddin brain so I cut him some slack. I’m just disappointed in Burr. I like what he stands for.

Yeah we buy gas from Saudis. And we do bad things here. “You think the US is so innocent? Tell that to 30000 Iraqis and Afghans who we bombed…We bomb a wedding party and offer them so spare cash lying around like my Uncle Irvin offering to pay for the vase he broke while he was piss drunk…”

You do realize that the contract for the Kennedy Center probably has much the same language about Trump, right?

I hear you, I'm just saying I feel bad for the rest of them.

You know, the ones who actually know the score and were trying to get away from a horribly repressive regime only to find themselves shanghai'd by a wannabe horribly repressive regime.  Those ones.

VAPA in the decked out Eagle Talon with 24 cameras to audit the check points with his windows up should have covered it.

Jim Jefferies said on a recent podcast that there were no restrictions put on the topics or types of jokes they could make.  On the same podcast, he made an offhand comment about the Saudis killing Khashoggi, saying it's really the only bad story he's heard about the Saudi government.  On a probably unrelated note, he is no longer listed on the ticket.

I'm not sure I'd trust that Jim Jeffries is a well-informed kind of guy.

Good friend though.

Related to the Riyadh Comedy Festival, just a reminder that the "Seinfeld of Saudi Arabia," Fahad Albutairi went to UT.

I used to drink with him at Crown/Posse occasionally.

He married Loujain al-Hathloul who was arrested, kidnapped, and tortured for the horrible offense of driving a car as a woman. Then they were further forced to get a divorce afterwards.

Man, I don't know -- only have the vaguest recollection that it headed northeast after landfall. I do strongly remember that quote happening after a hurricane in Florida, though, specifically.

The comment may have been connected to an especially shitty FEMA response shortly after DeSantis was elected for the first time, so the state was in the spotlight. It's all a jumble of hazy associations.
