Went to google, expecting to confirm that First Nations would be an acceptable term but google tells me that the First Nations folk are seperate from the Inuit and the Métis, whom I had not heard of 30 seconds ago.

Since you're on Surly, I'll also assume you've watched Letterkenny, and you'll recognize this Métis actress.

From that link, here's a coal-powered one. Imma gonna have to assume that's a pile of coal under a tarp on the roof.

Jessica Matten is Métis as well.  She's been in Frontier and Dark Winds.

I could look it up, but isn't "Metis" about the same as "mestizo," that is, a cross between indigenous and colonizer?

Also, in case anyone hasn't noticed, miscegnation produces some remarkably attractive humans, so I say let's get on with it.

I haven't looked it up either but would guess they've got the same etymology, meaning "mixed," though in everyday French mélanger is used for mixing.

to this day, hottest women i ever beheld were bartenders in nagoya: twin female half-argentine, half Japanese. Holy shit they had the absolute best from both cultures.

Brasil. Enough said.

(The French and British generally took a much dimmer view of such practices in their colonies than the Portuguese and Spanish did, hence the, um, fairly attractive populations of several of our neighbors to the south.)

Is that why there’s an impossible amount of good looking girls in Sudbury?

The ISD my kids are in here in Colorado is facing a $50m deficit in the budget for next year. It's largely due to Department of Education funding cuts. Fun times ahead.

I'm sure the state will raise taxes to cover the shortfall. That's the essential second step in returning responsibilities to the states, ain't it?

I knew a stripper with a Thai mother and a Cuban father. Complexion, hair and facial features from the Thai side. Tits and ass from the Cuban side. Perfect mix of genes.

Although the name "Eskimo" was commonly used in Alaska to refer to Inuit and Yupik people of the world, this usage is now considered unacceptable by many or even most Alaska Natives, largely since it is a colonial name imposed by non-Indigenous people. Alaska Natives increasingly prefer to be known by the names they use in their own languages, such as Inupiaq or Yupik. "Inuit" is now the current term in Alaska and across the Arctic, and "Eskimo" is fading from use. The Inuit Circumpolar Council prefers the term "Inuit" but some other organizations use "Eskimo".

I don't think that's at all accurate w/r/t the French.  I'll let one of our more knowledgeable posters speak about the experience in Louisiana, but in Quebec the French were pretty libertine when it came to mixing with the local indigineous population.  That's probably to be expected because the male-female ratio of French people was way out of wack.  It was largely a fur-trading colony; there weren't just a whole lot of mademoiselles.

You're not incorrect re France's earlier colonies, particularly in North America (and on the frontier, the British were more relaxed about it as well, both often using intermarriage as means to effect trading relationships). The French in Indochina tended also to be somewhat more tolerant. However, the French Caribbean colonies were quite harsh on the matter, as was French Africa (even more so after the first world war). There is a fairly obvious reason as to why the difference. Metropolitan France, on the other hand, was much more open to those actually in France; this dated back to the Revolution.

There are the Creoles of Haiti and other islands. Some damn hot women. They fucked but did not marry. Damn I should have thought of that.

I was about to say. There were so many mixed race people in France's Caribbean colonies that they formed their own ethnic group.

Having lived and worked on both sides of Hispaniola, the womenz are pretty damn bad ass. My brother's wife, girl who grew up in the campo is gorgeous. Her niece is, well, something special.

One of the most beautiful women I saw in my life was up in the hills around Port Au Prince.

Karen 💇 haircut noted.

Noticing it already with things that have to be hand picked.  Our HEB has only had a handful of cabbages for the last few weeks.

Only about one-fifth of applicants for federal disaster assistance from Kerr County have been deemed eligible to get financial help so far, leaving hundreds without governmental aid more than three months after deadly floods ravaged the county on July 4.

What the liberal media won't say is that FEMA is actually praying their asses off, agency-wide, to help the people of Kerr County. So they are actually doing far more than they ever have done before while also saving money.

In recent years, I have reached the opinion that French Algerians are some of the most beautiful people around.  And yeah, if there ain't a lesson in there for all of us across the board: the most beautiful people are less often "pure breed whatever," and more often fantastic mixes of humanity.  Humanity would be amazing if we all just mixed all our shit up.   Delicious food, beautiful people, happiness.  Let's figure this shit out and get it done.

As an example of said french algerians, Nassima Benchicou:
