Even the CEO's are realizing....

Donald Trump’s tariff threats have triggered a behind-the-scenes lobbying campaign to soften or alter the president-elect’s plans. But the effort faces a potentially insurmountable roadblock: Trump isn’t budging.

That has left business executives scratching their heads about how to lobby for exemptions from the steep tariffs Trump has promised on imports from China, Canada, Mexico and other countries.

Legacy media is too busy dissecting the election.

They’ve already lost interest in Trumps cabinet picks bc there are just too many unqualified people to try and find information on.

It’s easier to just muse on the meaning of the election than to do anything close to reporting the facts, etc.

So even if these people were angry, you wouldn’t hear about it. Palestine was soooo early 2024. Its played out

That's been my attitude since the election. All Schadenfreude, all of the time. These people were warned, and they chose to:

  • Not pay attention,
  • Not listen,
  • Ignore the obvious,
  • Believe they'd be unaffected,
  • Buy into the bullshit and/or
  • Hate people who are different than them.

Fuck 'em. Fuck us. It's a well-deserved face-eating leopard feast for everyone because we deserve it. Point, laugh, do whatever you can to cope, and keep your sanity. Or, you know what, it's also entirely appropriate to lose your marbles. That works too.

Yup.  And America has been going down this path for decades...since Reagan.   The right wing nuts who want to turn us in to Gilead have been gaining power and influence ever since.  We need consequences for any chance at change.  Hard hard painful consequences for the entire country.   I am all for it with full understanding that I will not be insulated from the pain.  Let's fuckin go and rip the bandaid off.

It was fascinating, was listening to NPR this morning.  They had a dude on who was the leader of the big Hispanic evangelical group.  When the interviewer pressed him on Trump's positions, his take was essentially "We believe that Trump will do the things he said he would do that we support....but we don't think he'll do the things he said he would do that we don't support."

It is still amazing, it still blows my mind.  Trump says he will do 10 things.  They vote for him because they totally support him doing the first 5 things, and believe he'll do them because "Trump keeps his promises."  Then on the next 5 things, they think they are terrible ideas, and even though he said he will do them, he won't really, because "Trump just says things."  These thoughts come out of the same supporter's brain in the same minute.  It's fucking incredible.

Can't speak for everyone on this board, but I believe many of us can tolerate a little of financial pain compared to the masses.

Extra $2-3K/year to account for tariffs will suck, but it's a small % compared to some uninformed Trump supported. I hope they fucking suffer under a Republican administration.

Even Ana has stopped castigating US policy on Israel/Palestine post election, which is weird given the incoming administration is so keen to be seen as more supportive of Israel that the current WH, and the named new Ambassador to Israel was quoted as saying there is no such thing as Palestine. He has since focused his hate on Israel. I’m open to arguments he is not so far up Putin’s ass he might be compared to a tapeworm.

He may.  But your deep concern about multiple such issues with respect to Biden.....but the complete and total free pass you give to Trump (particularly when he's WORSE on those issues than Biden) renders some pretty solid body blows to your credibility.

You are among the Trumpiest "I don't support Trump and think he's a clown" types around.  "I don't support Trump and think he's a clown....except I somehow find a way to come down on Trump's side of any issue 90% of the time, even when I've otherwise supported a position at odds with Trump's" is something to watch.

What free pass have I given Trump wrt Israel? On the cabinet thread I pointed out that his foreign policy team is basically hand picked by Miriam Adelson. I said that before Huckabee was mentioned, frankly haven't see that appointment discussed much, but I think that it is precisely in line with that prior statement. Y'all conjure up the weakest strawmen and then high five each other when you knock it down. Don't worry, when Trump is signing military packages that include bombs to be dropped on apartments full of Palestinian women and children I'll still be here to bitch about it. I appreciate that if only because Trump is involved a few more of you will all the sudden find a way to stretch out your voice.

No.  You won't.  You think that you don't have a history on this site that people remember.  We do.

Biden or a Dem does it: Anastasis is all up in arms, with cryptic question/criticisms of every act.

Trump does it: a passing reference to "I didn't vote for Trump," and that's pretty much it.

Just fucking get it over with.  Declare your allegiance, admit that you'll give Trump a functional pass no matter what he does, and quit lying to us and to yourself to the extent that you think you're being clever.  You're not.

WRT Israel, is not often that the US president gets to ride shotgun during an ethnic cleansing operation executed by their closest allie and historically largest recipient of US military aide. Even you recognize the singularly unique nature of what has taken place over the last 12+ months, and the absolutely hollowness and self clowning nature of Biden's leadership on the issue. I will certain miss Matt Miller behind the podium at state. He's a very special type of sociopath.

When Trump funds, arms, and provides unrelenting cover for an ethnic cleansing operation implemented by Israel, I'll be right there to criticize it. When he signs off on military packages to Saudi Arabia (aka pariah state), I will criticize that as well, as I did last go around. When he dumps more arms into the Ukraine conflict, guess what, I will criticize that too.

This is the conclusion of a note from General Ismay to the British Cabinet sent on 20th September 1938, marked ‘Secret’. Ismay was Secretary of the Committee of Imperial Defense.

image.thumb.jpeg.b9b6c3867f4382a870aa58d01bf8f333.jpeg

Quote

15.  The broad conclusions of this Note may be summarized as follows :-

(a) A German absorption of Czechoslovakia will enhance her military prestige, increase her war potential and probably enable her to dispose of stronger land forces against France and ourselves than she can do at present.

(b) So far as air power is concerned, Germany may be able to maintain her lead over the Franco-British Air Forces in air striking power.  On the other hand, it is open to us, provided that we make the necessary effort, to catch her up, or at least greatly reduce her lead, in the matter of defence (both active and passive) against air attack.  By so doing we shall have heavily insured ourselves against the greatest danger to which we are present exposed: indeed by substantially reducing Germany’s only chance of a rapid decision, we shall have provided a strong deterrent against her making the attempt.

(c) It follows, therefore, that, from the military point of view, time is in our favour, and that, if war with Germany has to come, it would be better to fight her in say 6-12 months’ time, than to accept the present challenge.

I honestly have no idea how much this influenced the Munich Pact, but I note that it was signed nine days after this correspondence.
