Oh, man.  The finding out in Alabama and Mississippi during one of these hurricane seasons is gonna be so bad

However this ends up, whether it turns into a bend-the-knee for federal aid or some grifting scheme, we should never forget President Trump's visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

You and everyone like you are brainwashed, and were used as "useful idiots" to further a republican agenda of tearing down democracy to install an oligarchy where their corruption has no bounds. Everyone else besides you can see it, and you keep right asking being a willing victim of it even as trump lines up the richest oligarchs in the world right behind him at his inauguration.

Every one of you needs to watch this on repeat until you fucking get it

He also stated that aid would go through "us" (him).  So I assume, bend the knee, you get aid.  Alabama and Mississippi already kiss his ass, so they'll be covered.  California, on the other hand, can get fucked.

A reporter asked about conditions on North Carolina since he's already applied two conditions on CA aid (one of them related to voter ID).  Trump of course, made no demand of NC.

Equality under the law no longer applies.  But we already knew that.

Did he tell NC that he’s going to turn off the weather machine that caused the hurricane in the first place. You know, to steal the lithium or whatever? That would be nice.

If anyone knows dubious legal grounds and concepts of a plan, it’s definitely Trump apologists.

Also, she might just be a 14th amendment casualty.

I lost my ass in Florida real estate in 2008 (just to be clear, I played by the rules, "did everything right" and overinvested in an attempt to get things paid for quicker.  I would have been better off doing the minimum and walking away -- like a lot of people -- when the market went sideways).  It was the wild west in terms of development and lending. Moved to New Jersey where there is very slow, incremental building with years, sometimes decades, of oversight and delay (regulations!) that tilt the market toward deeper pockets, entrenched developers versus get rich quick schemers.  The market here is very, very stable.

Since then I've followed a couple of my old properties in Orlando on Zillow and seen them rise to double what they were valued when I owned them.  But I figured, hey, Florida's boom and bust cycle is finally over.  The market is stable and sane.  I thought I missed out. Maybe not.

Trump revokes Biden-era order allowing transgender members to serve in military

President Trump on Monday, in his first executive order, revoked dozens of Biden-era actions, including one that allowed members of the transgender community to serve in the military.

In a signing ceremony before supporters at Capitol One Arena, Trump revoked Executive Order 14004, signed by his predecessor, former President Biden, in January 2021.

The Biden order, also called Enabling All Qualified Americans To Serve Their Country in Uniform, had revoked a 2018 ban on transgender members from serving in the military that was implemented in Trump’s first term.

It also more broadly ensured that no servicemember will be discharged or separated from the military based on gender identity and allows for their records to be corrected if they have been in the past.

There are many to choose from, but the GOP's decades long campaign to keep people who vehemently want to serve their country from doing so has got to be one of their dumbest platforms.

I’m just going to note there is already a perceptible wobble in the amount of cattle and hogs being processed by major packers over the past week. If that persists we won’t be far from noticeable shortages in red meat in stores.

Do we think bird flu will not only jack up the price of eggs,  it also chicken as well? I haven’t been to the store yet but I’m more inclined than usual to pay attention to the costs. It will be interesting to see if we get red meat shortages, how the costs of ever other substitute will behave.

And by interesting, I mean “this will suck.” Sadly, at this point, even if we use bare store shelves I fully don’t expect the media to even blame trumps policies. Certainly not on Fox News.

And as we learned from COVID, once those prices go up, no government regulation will be there to ever make them go down again. Just more price gouging. Will be perfect for the coming fairly long recession if the inverted yield market historical predictor holds.

I hope every dumb ass bitch who has a bunch of kids and voted trump gets to learn what it was like for my wife's parents growing up. Having to subsist on rice, beans, and sopa because you can't afford anything else with so many damn kids

The U.S beef herd is at its smallest since the 1950s.  We are better at getting more meat per cow but beef prices are not coming down.

Anchovies. You can flavor a lot of pasta, etc with those little buggers. We even got our kids to like them early on.

Sorry for the derail. Yeah, eggs are high but I was still able to get a whole chicken for a reasonable price. Bought two and froze one. You can stretch out a roast chicken (pot pie, soup, etc) for a couple of meals if you serve it with a lot of vegetable sides that first night.

So really trying to help Americans go vegetarian and reduce meat consumption for better health and lower environmental impacts… what a mensch!

Perhaps that’s a good thing when the retaliatory tariffs result in less exports.

If it gets further out of hand, it will. Always going to be a level of disease circulating in poultry and to a lesser extent hogs but I would expect a worse response now.

Cow/calf guys are making a killing right now and under normal circumstances we’d be expanding already because of a good year for feed production after the drought delayed it but the current tight supply after imports of Mexican feeders already got hurt by a screwfly outbreak squeezed stuff so much that my guys cashed out the heifers they were going breed at huge margins and continue delay things further.

We are not allowing the discussion of bird flu to happen. If you don’t test for it, who is your say how contaminated our food is?

Spam ain’t cheap. Last I checked it was more expensive by weight than pork shoulder. I’d rather stock up on that.

I don’t think the issue is contamination of food. It’s the eventual jump to human to human transmission as a novel virus and no plan to deal with that inevitability

Well that and fewer laying hens means expensive eggs. Thanks Biden!!!!

And you just know this is going to happen and it will become a full crisis because that’s where we are in this timeline and because we have the worst “leader” possible to deal with it

I said before the election if COVID wasn't a chance occurrence, then watch out for another pandemic if trump gets elected again. It's too perfect of a scenario to finish off the USA after COVID and trump weakened it so much the first time around.

Hopefully the Chinese see that it's unnecessary as the USA is in full self destruction mode and they hold back this time.
