I went on my son's school trip to the Capitol, which was probably the first time I been since I was in elementary school. Google did a nice job with my Pixel shots.

Haven't touched the DSLR in ages, but we have a Colorado trip coming up, so I'm hoping to dust it off and get some good shots.7cf946ac3e24f4d0efdc76a8238018c0.jpg3e2a1a3e8571c4b892956bdef800451f.jpg

Them are some nice looking animals, Patrick.

Thanks.  Going to be looking for more soon.  Here are some more, sorry for so many posts, just been shooting a lot lately.  I am getting frustrated with the amount of distortion as well as softness of my Sigma 12-24mm lens has.  I use the preset lens corrections in PS, but even then many shots still look bad.

Not sure why a few of those didn't come through:

You've probably answered this elsewhere, DougO, but what glass do you use for those shots?

I'm using a Nikon 200-500mm f5.6. One of the best bargains Nikon ever put out, great for little birds and macro.

That painted bunting with is wings spread out was really close, so much I actually had to zoom out. I had gotten a few halfway decent shots of him further away on a tree but I wanted to get him closer, so I tried luring him in with a rival bunting call on my phone. I had never done that before, but it really worked. He keep getting closer and closer, almost too close, staring me down and flapping aggressively. He was quite prepared to kick my ass if necessary.

I didn't do it very long, as tempting as it was to get more shots. I didn't want to screw with him any more. I've been there, man.

Here is my attempt. Took an REI class and now I’ve got the bug.e0536f7ead343d251f93d4674aff3021.jpg0ce59c59c52cd6d6179b1c3372c3799e.jpg16f4b125d6c010eab1b48d61f1178307.jpg

It took me literally less than a minute using Photoshop's perspective crop tool to correct the distortion in the cityscape.

Nice. I was using the lens correction as well as manual distortion correction in the RAW editor but it still didn’t look good to me. That one looks great.

That's the first Swayze picture I hate.

Interesting chemtrails on the beach, with lots of Google automagic.bc049df926a7d1103290541959311383.jpg

I hate spiders and I had to get about 6 inches from this one. But hey, I hate regretting not getting a shot.

I like it. I've killed about half a dozen of them black bastards in my day. They love the shit out of water meters. Never stick your hand in one without a thorough look.

Never had a camera handy at the time, though.

Thanks Doug.  Went looking for more snakes yesterday, but came up empty handed.  Got a few shots though (and one from last week)...

Are you going for The Big Year?

Well, mine are going to be embarrassing after all those! I took these just a couple of seconds apart over Puget Sound last weekend. Right at dusk. Pictures don't do justice to what I saw, but I gave it a shot.72507c49845086203bb1367eff6cc09d.jpg7b5ac28516920666f687165e11b72e49.jpg

Some great photos on this page. LOVE the egret in Black and White, Patricio.  Here are a couple of shots I took at Antones last night.

I posted some of these in the Snek thread, but figured I would be them here and a couple others.  Am I being stupid for being scared of going above ISO 1600 (Canon 5D ii)?  I just don't want really noisy photos that I have to process the hell out of.  Shooting under heavy canopy of trees is pretty damn tough, especially early in the morning.

No. Once you use a more modern sensor though, you’ll be blown away.

These are at Carlsbad, shot at ISO4000, 1/25, f4.0, handheld. The lighting is in the cavern, no flash or anything.

Damn. I was about to buy the newest 5D, then my wife told me she was pregnant. That was almost two years ago. Maybe a couple more years.

You know, Canon will be coming out with some mirrorless full frames this year. One of them is rumored to essentially be a mirrorless 5DIV.

You've killed me.

I apologize again for not being very good, and these are with my phone. A couple from Calgary Stampede and Canmore/Banff, Alberta last week. 7091ab94675d78cdac01358ec6bb2eea.jpgb5b04806683d7598976e78a272f03fd8.jpg460351ad8209fd9efdec782fe7f549ad.jpg89288e1553d8476bd394f9520288c209.jpg
