This afternoon we had 7 male and female cardinals out there. Just lovely to see. Some people believe a cardinal's presence symbolizes a deceased loved one that is coming to check up on you. I like to believe that.
January 27Jan 27 The Allegheny River, about 25 miles northeast of The Point, just up river a bit from Leechburg. The ice isn’t too think, about 5” or 6”. We threw some rocks out and no ice was broken. Pretty cool, no pun intended.
January 28Jan 28 ☝️ It's about 400 yards across at that point. It's a pretty good river. We swim there a lot. There are beavers, eagles, bear and a bunch of other wild animals as well as a ton of fish in the water. It's very clean.

Momma always said cover the head, cover the chest and have good shoes/boots during winter. If you take care of those things the winter isn’t so awful. But yeah, that’s a lot of ice. Even what looks like water is clear ice.

Even what looks like water is clear ice. 70 years ago in St. Louis I was walking alone across the ice surface of a frozen swamp pond located in a wooded sinkhole area about a half mile from our home at Jefferson Barracks. One leg broke through up to my crotch, but luckily I was able to extricate myself out quickly and ran home. Leg was damn near frozen with slimy crap, and Mom chewed me out pretty good for being stupid. Just remembering that incident still makes me shrivel up.

When I was a kid, even up until about 20 years ago, there were never any eagles around Pittsburgh. Now, they are pretty much all over. We've always had falcons and hawks but, not eagles. There are some nest-cams around. Across the river from Oakmont some eagles live up on the hillside where no people can ever get. Up on our river, the Allegheny, there are plenty. When you go by on a late afternoon cruise on the boat it is so cool to see them, especially when the baby eagles are hatched, just hanging out, watching everything.
April 13Apr 13 Popular Post Old coyote I've posted about before. Been watching him for five, including when he broke a leg and everyone thought he was a goner. Researchers tell me he's at least 8 years old already, judging by his teeth, so he's over twice coyote life expectancy and has outlived 99% of area coyotes according to their age demographic studies.

April 29Apr 29 Popular Post Lost my dog of almost 15 years (June) this weekend. Ran off at the ranch he's enjoyed for most of his life and never looked back. Searched day and night until I had to quit. Tough pill. I hate that this is how it ended, but maybe he knew better. RIP Kaiser Maiser. Took this during the search. That's how I feel. Don't care if understand. Edited April 29Apr 29 by NaTeWHO
April 29Apr 29 I'm sorry that you have lost such a great friend, Nate. I hope that you find some closure soon.

He must be smarter than the average 'yote. Live long and prosper. @NaTeWHO hang in there. Dogs are truly man's best friend. BTW, the water jump pict is the shit.
May 7May 7 A retired Vegas friend who has taken up photography as a serious hobby in recent years is vacationing in Yosemite. He does a lot of the computer/filtering with his photos.
