November 18, 20241 yr Popular Post Last year we looked really bad against Houston. Nearly lost to KState. Needed an AD miracle catch to close out TCU. After all that frustration, we absolutely handled business against Tech and Oklahoma State, looking like a top team to end the season. I'm predicting the same for this year. The team is going to peak at the right time and curb stomp Kentucky and A&M.

The team is going to peak at the right time and curb stomp Kentucky and A&M. Texas not only nearly lost to K State last year, but K State really should have won the game. It took their galaxy brain OC a whole half to realize running right into T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy was a poor choice and that he should instead utilize his veteran QB to pick on Texas's horrid secondary. He never quit the QB power into the pair of NFL DTs on the other side, even in big moments late in the game. Guess who calls the plays for Texas A&M this year? As far as Kentucky goes, should be a snoozer even if clunky. Texas is just a significantly better version of their good defense and lacking offense. Unless Texas turns it over and gives Kentucky a short field multiple times I doubt the outcome is ever in doubt. I'd be surprised if Kentucky got past 10 unless it's garbage time.

November 18, 20241 yr 1-10 FCS Murray State sacked Brock Vandagriff 3 times on Saturday in a game where he only played the first half. Edited November 18, 20241 yr by Hookem2147
November 18, 20241 yr The only thing that gives me slight pause in this game is the fact that Kentucky played Murray State last week and had a bye the week before. So they will have been prepping Texas for 3 weeks. It shouldn’t matter, but I’m sure they will have us well scouted with a few curveballs ready to go.
November 18, 20241 yr Kentucky hasn't scored more than 20 points on offense against any SEC team this year. Our defense is going to feast.
November 18, 20241 yr Why some of yall are saying this is a trap game is beyond me. These players aren’t looking ahead to the aggy game. It’s not a rival game like OU. All they know is that they are weird. Might as well be mizzou or Auburn to them.
November 18, 20241 yr Not the least bit concerned by this game. Not going to try to create something out of nothing here.

This is going to be the most heated game for either team in a very long time.
November 18, 20241 yr I will say in UK’s defense of poor Offensive showings is the revolving door at the OC position, they’ve had about 3 or 4 different ones the last few seasons so no real identity on Offense. A Mark Stoops MO is beating up on MAC competition in NC and then getting teeth kicked in come SEC play.
November 18, 20241 yr Our defense is gonna have a fucking field day with them. Barron is gonna put on a clinic like he did to Arky. I am stoked for this game. Got family coming down from Kentucky for Saturday. Honestly they know the Wildcats are horrible and will get their shit pushed in, but they're excited to be here anyways since they've never been to Austin.

Interplay between sark scheme and play calling and QE. Criticisms and compliments for both. Pretty clear the lack of a reliable straight ahead running game hurts this offense big time. Puts more pressure on QE, puts more pressure on sark’s calls, and all of that mixes together for an offense that is talented but habitually off. Hoping Gibson gets more carries and all the RBs holds on to the ball. Hoping QE can catch some lightening in a bottle and sark can dial it up.
November 18, 20241 yr Interesting stat of unknown significance, other than proving we don't have a bellcow RB and are spreading the ball around: 0 players with 500 yards rushing OR receiving through 10 games

Exceptions: Texas v OU, Michigan v Ohio State, UND v USC, Nebraska v OU (dormant). Those are the only (I think) rivalries between blue bloods based upon mutual respect (and hatred) that turns the course of entire seasons and decades in the ncaa. All other rivalries are like our rivalry with aggy- the flagship v country bumpkin rubes with embarrassment and irritation at stake vs national prominence.

November 18, 20241 yr Complete momentary derail, I would probably put Lexington in the top 5, maybe number 3 destination for road trips. Definitely #3 if you like Bourbon. Obviously, Vandy and Texas are 1 and 2. Yes, I know the game is in Austin. Edit- 1) Texas 2) Vandy 3) Tennessee 4) Kentucky 5) Bama 6) South Carolina Bottom of the list aggie and MSU. You can fly into Louisville or Nashville Thursday night, road trip to Lexington and if you choose a wise path have a beautiful drive and hit nearly all the distilleries. Ambitious? Fly into Nashville, fly out of Cincinnati. Prepare to pay a lot of shipping costs for goods. Good Road Trip for Drinkers Edited November 18, 20241 yr by BurntEyes

That is on top of it being a rivalry game. It's setting up to be the biggest Texas/Texas A&M game since 1995. And just because these guys haven't played in it before doesn't mean they don't know it's been talked about constantly since it was scheduled. It's definitely a trap game for both Texas and A&M. That being said, it shouldn't matter.

Good Road Trip for Drinkers I've spent a decent amount of time in Lexington, and I also really like the area. The rolling hills and the horse farms in the countryside are beautiful. The city itself has a good vibe, a neat downtown, and surprisingly good restaurants. I highly recommend it for a road trip. With regard to the game Saturday... I don't see how we lose barring a rash of turnovers or special teams fuck ups. On paper this looks like a classic trap game -- nestled between rival road games against Arkansas and A&M, with Kentucky essentially having two weeks to prepare. Kentucky is completely bipolar. Who knows how they are going to show up on Saturday? Outside of Florida, they haven't given up many points to anyone. Unless they've quit on Stoops, which is a distinct possibility, this feels like an ugly win where we complain about Ewers and the offense afterward but are in control most of the way. I don't care. Just win baby.

As you noted, it's really a beautiful area and while a little "wild" Louisville has some cool things to offer too. Lexington is a fun, modern and comfortable town with a surprising amount of good restaurants and hot co-eds. As for the game, I think Kentucky slows our offense more than most people anticipate. I think our D does what they do and ultimately we win a low scoring game that's likely not as close as the score indicates but too close for comfort. So.. I think we're pretty much on the same page in all regards based on my reading of your post. Yes, I expect lots more bickering about Quinn no matter the outcome.

November 18, 20241 yr We're hosting a Kentucky couple in our suite this weekend and they're great friends. The guy joining us played for Mumme and Leach at Kentucky and he's buddies with a bunch of guys involved in CFB and the NFL that he played with or got to know through playing for those guys. One of his good friends is Neal Brown, the HC at West Virginia. I've gotten to chat with Brown due to my friend a few times. That dude has dealt with some crazy shit at West Virginia. Anyhow, my buddy is a great source of non-UT CFB information and I present that here in threads when and where relevant. As to road trips, we're planning on going to the UK trip next year and making 4 nights of it, with a couple in one of Louisville or Cincinnati, two of the only large US cities that neither my wife or I have ever visited between us. Our friends go and on about Lexington, and we'll be there with them, so I hope it's a blast. The small college town bit gets kind of old, in my mind. They all start seeming the same - been to Knoxville, Fayetteville (twice), Tuscaloosa, and Ann Arbor over the last 3 years. I was in Fayetteville this past weekend with the wife and BIL (arky alum) and it was fine, and the dinners were great, but it's always the same drill at the bars and restaurants near campus, and the same horns down and SEC shit-talking there and around the tailgates.
