Do you complain that all theaters show is superhero movies and dumb shit?

Then go see Anora. It's complex, fun, emotional and wacky.

Plus lots of nudity.

Go see Anora if you want to see more movies like Anora in theaters.

Saw it with my wife two weeks ago. We both liked it. I wondered aloud how it avoided a NC-17 rating as we walked out of the theater.

It was great.  I hope Mikey Madison wins the oscar.

Agree with all of the above (except our resident special needs troll). Great film. Fun to see Sean Baker get to operate on a larger scale. Red Rocket, Florida Project and Tangerine are also all great.

Not enough "pew pew!"?

oh I think you know exactly why

Always fun to add to the discourse of I didn't enjoy or like this movie for reasons without offering any reasons.

Lol, keep dreaming, pal.

Decent film. Amazing performance.

I don't get the Oscar buzz and quality but then again that's normal for me.

I expected shit to go dark and the Armenians just stayed pg13 nice

Watched this over the weekend.  I thought it was a good movie but I don't really think it was Best Picture worthy.  Was last year a weak year for movies???

saw it today. it was very different from what i expected knowing only the basic plot points, and that's always a plus.

the lack of exposition in the story was really interesting, made it feel more like an immersive experience, we're just dropped into her life and go with her from there.

i really liked the ending, very strong.

no issue with her winning... but as a whole it certainly didn't knock my socks off like Dune2. so wasn't the best movie of the year for me for sure, but i did enjoy it.

That’s a great description and really sums up how I felt about it when I walked out of the theater.

boobs. Me likey

Saw he went for the Tito’s when they got up to the Vegas suite

On Hulu now

Kinda meh for me. I also found the second half to have borderline laugh out loud parts. I really liked the ending, though.

I want to watch it. I saw very few Oscar nominated movies.

I thought the first half was tedious. The entry of the good Armenian was the start of something good. The ending was very good.

Shouting "What the fuck!?!" a hundred times or more is a beating on the ears.

Overall: Poor.

I thought the Mexican movie was far better in every way.

I love gratuitous nudity as much as everyone else but I didn’t think the movie was great until the Armenians entered the picture. Toros made it pretty funny. I didn’t see many of the best picture nominees but it must’ve been a pretty weak year if that was best picture. Have no problem with Madison winning best actress.

that reminds me...we went to an afternoon matinee to see it and there were maybe 10 people total in the theater... including an elderly couple at the end of our row.

they made it through the strip club intro montage, maybe 12-15 minutes? the first cut where we went from really loud music/shouting to a quiet shot we clearly heard them in the middle of a loud conversation "...naked! didn't she supposedly win best actress??"

and they proceeded to get up and leave 😆

like i get not knowing details or being surprised by a particular story direction (e.g., i expected more of a 'Russian mob' type story myself where she was in literal physical danger and was super surprised and enjoyed that it went a completely different direction!) but in this day and age, how are you still surprised by nudity in an R-rated movie about a literal SEX WORKER and a Russian oligarch?? 😆

I'll just say I was glad i watched it at home and not the theater.  It was okay, not "best picture" material IMO.  But then again quite a few of them recently have just been okay to me.

She was really good...but once again i wouldn't say she was better than other nominees.

I watched it over the weekend and I'll agree with the majority of posters who say it was good, but not Oscar-worthy. Honestly, I was ready to turn it off during the search for Ivan. It was just pointless and there was so much yelling. But the ending was good and redeemed the whole movie. Well that and tits.

I just watched on Hulu and really enjoyed it. I’m not sure it was Oscar winning worthy but what do I know? I rarely see movies that aren’t steamable. But I will say Mikey Madison was fantastic and deserving of her win. The ability for a privileged, Los Angeles native to transform herself into a stripper from Brooklyn was amazing.
