Interesting group. The D Mag cover art comes from Miss Pasta, which I raved about in the "Dallas | Italian" thread. It's fantastic in every way but one -- it's a loooooong way from my house.

Here it is:

  • Goldie's -- Lake Highlands bistro that went in space where RM 12:20 was located
  • Tacos El Metro -- Mexico City-inspired taqueria next door to Step Up Lounge on Walnut Hill (where Goldie's couldn't be further away from, El Metro couldn't be closer)
  • Sanjh -- Indian restaurant located in Irving
  • Nikki Greek Bistro & Lounge -- on Lovers right by the Tollroad, brought to you by former Inwood Tavern/current The Ivy owners Nikki & Tom Georgalis (been meaning to check it out)
  • Goodwins -- Middle Greenville joint that went in where the OG Blue Goose was for many years; neighborhood restaurant (leadership team has ties to The Grape, Neighborhood Services, Town Hearth, etc)
  • Bali Street Cafe -- tiny Indonesian restaurant in Oak Lawn
  • Pizzeria Carina -- great little pizza joint in Preston Center, owned by incredibly nice Ukrainian guy (I've hyped this place in the "Dallas | Pizza" thread)
  • Mabo -- $200/person culinary experience/show from former Teppo head chef Masayuki Otaka in the Park Cities; would love to experience this once, I think
  • Miss Pasta -- wonderful, no-frills Italian in Richardson from former food people behind Mille Lire (this place is just fantastic and I'm waiting for more locations closer to me -- I think the plan has always been to make this a multi-location concept) -- you stand in line to order and pasta comes out in paper bowls
  • Nuri Steakhouse -- $20M personally-funded steakhouse on Cedar Springs from Smoothie King founder Wan Kim
  • Meat Papi -- small BBQ operation over in Design District fusing Texas BBQ flavors with owner/chef's Venezuelan and Chicago roots; it's part of the Outfit Brewing group (definitely gonna check this place out

Haven’t been to most of those places. I’ll work my way through the list. Thanks for the share.

This one was mentioned in a CultureMap Houston article today about Esquire’s best new restaurants list. On one hand, I’m intrigued and on the other I’m skeptical about a $200 yakitori omakase.

Edit to add: I’m generally skeptical of omakase experiences these days. At least in Houston, omakase has become played out with every Tom, Dick and Harry doing an omakase.

Went to Goodwin's for DDD's birthday earlier this year.  Food was excellent albeit pricey and was a lot of fun.  Ended up in the speakeasy bar in the back after dinner for cocktails and dessert.
