UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in Manhattan on Wednesday, Dec. 4, in front of the Hilton hotel, according to multiple reports, including ABC, The New York Times and PIX 11, who cite police sources.

A New York Police Department spokesman tells PEOPLE that officers responded to a call at about 6:40 a.m. in front of 1335 Sixth Avenue, the address for the New York Hilton Midtown, where they found a 50-year-old man who'd been shot in the chest. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Multiple reports have named Thompson as the victim, but the spokesman said the victim's name is being withheld publicly pending family notification.

According to the Times, which reviewed a police report, the gunman fled east on Sixth Avenue and police are still trying to locate him.

According to his bio on the company's website, Thompson was named CEO in April 2021. Prior to that, he was CEO of the company's government programs, including its medicare program.

He joined the company in 2004, according to his bio.

This is a breaking news story. Check back for updates.

Trump did say he could shoot someone on 5th avenue...

I’m waiting for this to happen to right wing politicians in anti-abortion states. A woman is going to die at some point and a father or husband is going to snap.

6:40am in Manhattan in December is not broad daylight

When I first read this story, an article had a bulleted Summary at the top of the article which included the following:

- UnitedHealthcare (NYSE:UNH) CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed earlier Wednesday morning outside a midtown Manhattan hotel where he was scheduled to speak at the company's annual investor conference.
- UnitedHealth Group shares opened up ~2% Wednesday.

And my first thought was, if they really cared about their shareholders, they would cap a few more execs. As it turns out, he was the CEO Of UnitedHealth Group's health benefits unit, not the top dog CEO.

If its somebody pissed off because their wife was denied treatment for cancer or something, that would be both personal and job related.

Definitely NOT too soon.

Him: Why was my claim denied?

UH: Pre-existing condition.

Him: What pre-existing condition?

UH: Aging. You were gonna die anyway.

100% they would've denied it.  UnitedHealthCare denied me coverage for a heart blockage because they said I should've never been admitted to the hospital with "undetermined chest pain" so the blockage should've never been discovered.

I think most would consider that a proper fucking.

At least the death was quick with no medical bankruptcy preceding it as many of their customers experienced. Still, murder probably isn’t the most effective way to change a fucked for profit healthcare system.

i had to wait six extra months for my spinal fusion because of uhc's denial bullshit. claimed the dr's admin did not fill out form correctly and was denied and then when doing the appeal, they said they could not do a peer to peer review with the surgeon because...it was on appeal. had to file a different appeal through a different process with an entirely new mri and a bunch of other bullshit.

that infuriating labyrinth of nonsense makes me read this news and immediately recall the meme of "i'm not advocating for it...but i understand."

I’m sure the system ran up a nice bill during life saving measures that they will be able to deny due to failure to save his life.

Pre-existing puncture

Based on the pictures, that’s a straight up assassination.

Based on his pic, it looks like they denied his claim to get his teeth straightened.

I will change my prediction to 50% personal, 50% business.  Definitely, not random.

I mean I just look north where it's cheaper to kill your patients than to actually help people on the people's dime. It still is horrible to go through that.

I was there two weeks ago and saw an ECU Pirates bus parked in front of the hotel. Logically it's pretty easy to see that it was Las Vegas Raiders owner Mike Davis that was the culprit.

1.)ECU football was led by Mike Houston until he was fired a few weeks back.

2.) Before he coached ECU and James Madison, Houston was the head coach of The Citadel

3.) The current HC of The Citadel is Maurice Drayton who was the assistant special teams coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 AS WELL AS an assistant under Mike Houston at The Citadel in 2014-2015.

Look at this fuck, obviously he did it.
