You need to have two-factor authentication to order a chicken sandwich through the app but it turns out US telecoms only have cyber-security “recommendations.”  The Chinese are also still watching me type this real time.

1) Pretty sure the "Salt Typhoon" is an appetizer at a Guy Fieri joint.

2) If Chinese hackers are subjected to reading the private communications of Surly posters......that is how America wins.  As their eyes melt, and their brains short circuit, and they try to understand why "muledick" is the answer, no matter what the question is....we will have taken down the Chinese cyberwarriors without firing a shot.

You're welcome, America.

Yeah, saw this earlier. And early this morning a few friends in sensitive jobs had their proton mails hacked. Sent out files to download to their address books.

I noticed the email was a bit off and called a friend. he was unaware it had happened.

Fun times.

Mike Elko has entered the chat.

Can we get Brett Favre or some other bozo to start sending out dick pics again? That'll stop this.

They're gonna see how often I have to spell check the word diarrhea. I've probably been comparing things to diarrhea too often.

Wait, so they intercepted all the dick pics I have sent to Salma Hayek. That explains why she has never responded. Fucking assholes.

To be fair, diarhea has to be one of the top mispelled words.

*diarrhea

The irony of this thread title is that DM's are waaaaayyyyyyyy more secure than the SMS text messaging that has been penetrated using the same backdoors that exist for the NSA to spy on citizens

A group of my friends refer to having diarrhea as having “Chan Ho”

When you’re trying to spell a word that describes a runny turd

Fours old, thinking I have something cool and original? FFFUUUCCCKKK. Surly needs to have a bunch of posters that just do crazy script writing.

When you're running down to first and you feel something burst.

This news broke just before Thanksgiving too, it's surprising that the FBI saying it got more people to pay attention

Funny thing is, they're mainly just collecting metadata on the calls not the content itself. You know, that stuff that the Supreme Court said was honkey dorey until they didn't. Gotta love when those old backdoors turn out to be useful for more than just the """good guys""".

They can snoop in on calls and texts, but they have to be in the right place and time to intercept and MiTM the message. The metadata is persistent though, and is super helpful for informing when they should listen in

First they peed in our Coke, now this?  I say we randomly remove some letters from their alphabet.

Would anybody notice?

I think this is going to a be a much bigger problem soon. I remember thinking during the Ashley Madison (I was in college at the time and had no worries about it) leak how a bunch of families could be ruined with this kind of information and disinformation. I shudder to think what could be done with all of my data that my kids might someday see from some leak.  All you’d have to do is sprinkle a little crack on my data and I could look like a real asshole. Anyway, I don’t like that we are being glib about this stuff.

If you are communicating with people in more than a "casual" manner, whether it be friends, family, lovers, your attorneys, or business associates, you should already be using encrypted apps and email, and you should teach your kids to do the same.

An email like "don't forget the game is on ABC at 6:30" nobody gives a shit about.  An email to a friend about how you're making money online impersonating Johnny Depp?  Encrypt it!

Dude.  We post on Surly.  We are already doomed forever once they read our posts

We used to yell "Shoot the moon!" at Zilker Park whenever cops were walking around while we were smoking weed. Then one of us would yell "The dolphins are in the jacuzzi" and start cracking up. Yeah, I don't think we fooled the cops, they just ignored us.

You think normal encryption will hold up? I don’t.
