Man, Steempy, those were the days.  For a young student couple without many bucks, Jamie’s was the ticket.  My wife and I loved Jamie’s.  Delicious burgers and the best chips and salsa in town.  Several amenities stood out.  High quality beef and ingredients, no charge for refilld of iced tea or sodas, and the most efficient use of wait staff until the advent of phone apps 35 or 40 years in the future.  Here’s the deal - When we were seated, the hostess handed us menus and our waitress took drink orders and placed two copper bowls of delicious house salsa and a big basket of thin, tasty, hot chips on the table.   I always ordered the Owl burger, with lots of gooOoood bleu cheese embedded.  Makes me salivate just thinking about it.  Prices were reasonable for the era - say 15-20 for a nice dinner for two including chips, salsa, 8 oz ground sirloin burger, house salad, dessert, etc.  I saved the best feature for last: after the initial trip to bring chips y salsa and take drink orders, you never had to look for waitstaff or tell them to stay away for a while so you could enjoy uour food.

In the center of each table, built into the sugar caddy, was a miniature flagpole with a tiny movable-up-and-down Texas state flag.  Ready to order? Raise the flag!  Need more tea or chips or dessert?  Raise the flag!  Thus eliminating the hovering waitstaff.    Annnd, Jamie’s had a hot fudge brownie a la mode do die for.  We saved up to go to Jamie’s.  I think it was razed in the 80s but not sure.  Anyone ever eat at the Jamie’s in Houston?  I think there was another in Dallas at one time, with them little orderin’ flags.

That was way out of our neighborhood but we went there a few times.

Has anyone pointed out that Getting Old Sucks?

How did no one else think of that?
