December 8, 20241 yr Question that I have not found an answer to. Do we know what sides of the brackets feed into the Orange and Cotton bowls for the semis? Im in a wedding in Manila that weekend, and Friday 8am game works better than a Saturday 8am game.

So if it's Oregon we'll probably be playing in Florida

And as I said in the Big 12 game thread I wanted no part of AZ St. even if we’re better that QB/RB duo is fucking obscene and has been on fire the last month. (But lucked out it’s the Peach and not a home game in Fiesta for them). It will not be an easy path. Especially since we’ll have to play Oregon who is good enough defensively and MUCH better offensively than anyone we’ve played this year. Honestly the 6 seed might have been better. And overmatched SMU team. Then Boise who isn’t all that great and if you shut down the run there pedestrian. Then a Georgia team(if they make it) that I feel we can beat with a bit better offense. oh well. Our path is doable. If we lose to Clemson at home or AZ St in Atlanta we don’t deserve to be in the semis anyways.

It’s the Cotton Bowl because it’s set already. This has been repeated 50 times already.

December 8, 20241 yr I'm still shocked they put SMU in over Alabama. I think Notre Dame is the 5th best team in the country after Oregon, Georgia, us, and Ohio St so the Clemson and ASU route to the semis looks better than if we won yesterday. If we can't beat Clemson and ASU we didn't deserve to be there and it will be a massive underachievement. We have major talent and depth advantages over both, especially on the lines.

There are disparate schedules in conference play. A reasonable mind would ask what would PSU’s record have been if they played Oregon, OSU, and Indiana in the regular season similar to OSU? PSU only played 1 of the top 4 teams and lost at home. It’s not like teams in conference games did not move up and down. It’s one thing to try and limit the downside to conference games, it’s another to be blinded by a rule

December 8, 20241 yr 6th seed was best seed in the playoffs. SMU who couldn't beat Cade Klubnick then Boise St. Then a Georgia team that doesn't have their punter and a QB with a messed up throwing arm or ND. Not having to play Oregon, Ohio State, or Texas until the finals.

I'm sure it will someday be at least considered, but if I wanted to watch the NFL I would watch the NFL. I’m not saying I like it, I’m saying that’s where that particular argument leads. I would hate it, but CFB isn’t the CFB any of us have known and it’s only going to trend more toward the NFL than traditional CFB.

This is the shit that has driven me crazy when people have been stumping for all of the 2-3 loss sec teams the last few weeks. It’s all strength of schedule and best wins. But they all want to completely ignore the losses. Bama has 3 losses, 2 of them are terrible losses. Losing to vandy and a garbage ou teams isn’t the sec gauntlet. Those are just flat out bad losses. Bama got a free bad loss, to Vandy. Then it list 2 more games. Edited December 8, 20241 yr by heso

December 8, 20241 yr Using my ratings (homefield advantage considered for first round games - I used a slightly inflated figure of 3.5 points because the crowds should be rocking and weather impacts on cross-sectional games, totally ad hoc but they're my ratings so there) Those P(SF) values being highest for Texas and Penn State are what people are angry about (and probably should be). Using my compromise where the Top 4 conference champs are only guaranteed at least a home game it makes things seem more "fair" while still incentivizing conference championships:
