yea but they still had a head 2 head...I have no problem with smu in over bama. figured itd be clemson 11 and smu 12 and both would've been fine. especialy with SMU instate vs texas vs going cross country to penn state while clemson goes cross country to texas.

I agree. I would have had Clemson over SMU.

I actually think Clemson is a more straightforward matchup for Texas though. I think SMU is better coached and more dangerous on O.

Ponies getting sent to Happy Valley in December is fucking rough.

Serious question -- What would the committee have done if Army had beaten Notre Dame?

I would have said that a month ago. But I think ASU had to play a tougher schedule the last month and dismantled everyone including a high octane Colorado and solid Iowa St.

I don’t think theyr the 13-15th best team or at least haven’t played like it.  Probably closer to the U Scar boogyman.

we should beat them, but they have a dominant RB and good team.

ASU didn't play Colorado.  The big 6 wins they have rattled off since losing to Cincinnati are Ok State, UCF, Kansas State, BYU, Arizona and Iowa State.

I'd expect Bama to roll SMU as well, but this is the equivalent of arguing over being the last team out in the March Madness bracket.  Don't shit the bed repeatedly and it wouldn't be a discussion.

I don't get where the "expect Bama to roll SMU" shit comes in, frankly.

SMU lost by a cunt hair to Clemson who lost by a cunt hair to SCAR who lost by a cunt hair to Bama.

They are all 4 very comparable teams imo and SMU proved last night that despite an atrocious start we can hang with helmet schools.

SMU also didn't get whipped by TCU or Boston College which would be the equivalent of that awful Bama loss.

Put them at the 12 seed and left Clemson out presumably.  Or maybe had them even higher.

Clemson winning the ACC is really what fucked things up across the board.

They haven't been a playoff-caliber team all year so them winning the ACC is what made things difficult.

You’re right got them mixed up with Kansas who was wrecking everyone’s seasons.  Conference was in shambles

ASU was just beating up on everyone.

They killed Gundy's, Arizona and Iowa State.  They beat UCF by 4, KState by 10 and BYU by 5.....they were not beating up on everyone.

Army would have replaced Notre Dame.

If you lose to Northern Illinois, that better be your only loss.

Which would have made it rough for Army, not even getting a week off.

Notre Dame's offense is terrible.

It is very much not terrible. Their O Line is monstrous and they have 2 really good backs.

Georgia will have their hands full. I promise you.

This isn't your typical 2010s overranked Domer team. Sagarin has them as the #1 team in the country by a full point.

I don't think they are very well coached or conditioned. They got a few early breaks last night and were able to ride that to a W. Once everything settled down SMU was better on both sides of the ball.

Sark and co would have gotten less sleep preparing for SMU. Texas should be able to just line up and beat Clemson. Granted, they should also be able to do that against SMU but I think the Ponies would have presented more wrinkles.

That is absolutely CR.

Imagine being triggered by this

Notre Dame isn’t the same team they were in September. They’ve been mauling people for six weeks and are a legit contender.

As much as I hate to say it I think ND is a serious contender in this playoff.

They are pretty fucking good, especially on defense.

IU is the best team Domer has faced by a pretty wide margin. Their schedule was terrible.

bama and all the other teams should take notes

Clemson didn't take care of business.

They limped into the ACC championship game with 3 losses and barely beat SMU. Luckily for Clemson, Miami ended up being a fraud or Clemson wouldn't have even made the ACC championship game or the playoffs.

Yeah, it was just a bad start by SMU.

I actually think SMU > Clemson. SMU outgained Clemson 458 yards to 326. This is also why they value conference championship games way too much. Clemson has been nowhere close to a playoff team all year but because they barely beat a borderline top-15 team (SMU) that pushes them over the edge.

Laughable. They should just get rid of auto-bids in general.

Gotta say, I really like how all of this played out today.

Indiana, Boise State, and SMU, all get their fair shot and I think this bracket will have some upsets. Pretty exciting, from a betting standpoint, too.

Or SMu lost to Clemson who got blowout by Georgia who got beat by Bama. I guess it is about perspective

Meh. We can do this all day but that Georgia/Clemson scoreline was a bizarre early season result.

SMU isn't losing by 21 in Norman. Bama deserved what they got.

I like both Texas and PSU to win.

I think something being overlooked is how important this 2-week break is for Texas. IMO, we are the team that will benefit most from this.

Ewers has been at 75%, two of our top WRs have not been anywhere close to healthy, and Banks has been out at LT. Our offense has been a mash unit for a few weeks.

Getting those guys back to 100% is significant.

I was just messing with you and this line of logic… way I look at Alabama and SMU is which team would you bet on if they played. Answer that and see if the numbers make you question that call

This is bullshit. Back in THE day, the best two teams pretty much never played each other in a bowl

Yeah...reconsider that WKU, South Florida, Wisconsin, Mercer gauntlet.

I mean that was the point of my comment. Yeah I guess Bama at their best would be problematic for SMU but they consistently failed to play to that standard and it's why they didn't make the playoff.

Bama's entire season was inflated by a win over a WTF Georgia team that also almost lost to Ga Tech, a huge win over an LSU team that is kind of a fucking mess and a huge win over Missouri who got beat WORSE in Collie Station.

I think SMU could have easily gone 5-3 against Bama's conference slate.

You might be right but if I was a gambler I would bet Bama up to -6 to beat SMU today.

Banks and Bond getting healthy is a must if we're going to have a deep run.

That's fine and I'm not arguing that.

You also wouldn't be shocked if you lost that money 😉

That's why they didn't make the playoff. The committee couldn't trust them.

They could use a good desert wandering. I hope they can DeBoer prematurely and fuck up a couple hires.

Although fuck me if I don't like them and their fans a lot more than Georgia.
