Every 4 years you've seen every team in the conference twice. This is by far the most logical way to do it, so it’s probably the least likely to happen…
May 9May 9 9 conference games sucks stay at 8 Texas eats what it kills and does not need "the other conference members" to carry the schedule....Texas can get anyone and everyone they want on the schedule and Texas is a national brand not a conference fanboi (we can leave that to aggy) if you have the weaker programs start taking another L in a conference game instead of an OOC cupcake that drags down the entire league just as the 8 vs. 9 conference game study on the old PAC 12 showed there is no "good loss" on strength of schedule and there is no strength of schedule points for "a tough conference foe loss" vs. a win over shit state u......and the worse your other conference members are that impacts you directly when you play them and that impacts the other members of the conference when they play them.....and then the other members of the conference that you play bring their weakened strength of schedule to you as well.....plus the additional game just makes it even worse.....it is a 3X hit to strength of schedule.....weakens yours as a direct opponent, weakens other conference members and that carries over when you play them.....and in the case of Texas that can get a quality OOC game it weakens it yet again with a conference game replacing a better OOC game fuck this inbred 9 conference game bullshit stay at 8 and be a national brand.....let aggy and others schedule each other "out of conference" if they want more conference games which is equally if not more stupid, but the ACC does it on purpose and the Big 12 did it last year (and I think this year) because they were too lazy to change up already scheduled OOC games when new members joined......and one can see the results with struggling worse than the ACC to get teams in the playoffs
May 9May 9 No decent OOC opponent is going to agree to coming only to Austin which is the only reason we're all stuck at 8 conference games. Everyone wants their home cupcake. So no, Texas can't get anyone and everyone they want on the schedule. You can get Sam Houston State, Rice, and Louisiana spare schools to agree to that. Any decent P4 school is going to ask for a home and home, like Arizona State did (2032-2033).

May 10May 10 Who cares about diminishing the other SEC teams with 9 conference games? The playoff is going to 16. No one has to worry about the SEC not getting in plenty of teams. Does a fan watching want to see or attend a home game with us playing Sam Houston State, Rice, New Mexico, or a Louisiana G5 school every year or Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn, South Carolina, Mizzou, Alabama, or LSU at home every other year? The answer is pretty easy for me and should be pretty easy for ESPN so they can pay up.
May 10May 10 Popular Post One major reason that Florida still sells out the stadium when we're fighting for bowl eligibility and FSU is removing 20k seats the year after going 13-1 is because we're playing games against teams that people want to see. Playing a shitty schedule for wins isn't a viable long term strategy. 9 games all the way. Edited May 10May 10 by gatormarc
May 10May 10 I just had the best idea I've ever had since joining Surly. Every year 1 Big 10 team and 1 SEC team switch conferences and plays that team's conference schedule. They play in that conference's championship game if they make it and receive all payouts from that league as if they were a member. That way we can eliminate the Indiana's of the world and all of the SEC coaches saying, let teams like Indiana play an SEC schedule and see how they do. Yea, this is solid.

May 11May 11 The arrival of 9 games makes it more likely that each team will get 3 protected rivalry games. For us, that would mean OU, aggy, and Arkansas every year, no doubts at all. We then play a rotation of 5 teams home and away every two years and then switch. The only way that doesn't happen is if the SEC chooses a 8:1 format with only one protected rivalry game. Given each team has at least 2 main rivals, it's a dumb idea to go that route. They're not going to make Alabama choose Auburn or Tennessee or Georgia choose Florida or Auburn. The only benefit of an 8:1 is more variety of opponents every 2 years but you lose historical rivalries.
July 14Jul 14 We're not getting 9 conference games any time soon unless the playoff committee gives the SEC what it wants.
July 14Jul 14 Author 32 minutes ago, mdmost said: We're not getting 9 conference games any time soon unless the playoff committee gives the SEC what it wants. Aren’t the networks the ones supposed to be hearing this? they can keep things as they are, or they can get behind changing the CFP and get more SEC games and a set of play-in games. I get it, too. Everyone likes to say Bama didn’t deserve to get in, because it lost bad at OU and also at Vandy. Ole Miss lost to Kentucky, so didn’t deserve to get in. Meanwhile, there was no one in the B12 or ACC with two wins as good as Bama’s and Miss’ beat two wins. Adding a ninth SEC game means more “disqualifying” losses. Edited July 14Jul 14 by statsman
July 14Jul 14 You can't say definitively that the Top 4 SEC and B1G teams are any better than the Top 4 Big 12 or ACC teams year in and year out. Every P4 and G6 should rail against any scenario that lets the SEC and B1G monopolize 8 automatic bids annually. It's just business. We used to hate that "conference pride" shit when we were Big 12 members, remember?
July 14Jul 14 Apologies if this isn't the correct thread for this, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to what teams will be dropped/added to next year's SEC schedule. I really, REALLY want to play Tennessee sooner rather than later.

So 2026/2027 will be OU and then home and homes with aggy, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, and Mizzou/Auburn. If they go only 1 protected rival then sub Auburn for aggy both years.
August 25Aug 25 I was looking at what our schedule could look like next year now that they have announced the nine conference game schedule. I created one based on how things look like this year and just switched out the teams we haven't played. I expect 0U, Arky, and aggy will be the three every year opponents. This leaves seven teams we haven't played. 0U will count as a road game so that leaves four road conference games and four home conference games. I flipped a coin to decided between Missouri and South Carolina but it could be any of the other teams. Texas State Ohio State UTSA at Missouri BYE Ole Miss Oklahoma (road) Tennessee at Auburn LSU BYE Alabama at Arkansas at Texas A&M
