My wife had a liver transplant on 12/29.  It's remarkable how well she is doing today.  We are very lucky.  Her doctors are amazed at how far she's come in recovery.  They do say that barring anything

Joe Ely today.

Damn. A great. I had been in Austin a few months and found he and buds were doing a show for Stubbs at a crap hotel that he started his bbq in Austin. Was a very good show.
And another CSB I worked with a guy who went on a European tour with Ely as his obo player. Said he almost didn’t survive the party

I liked his music in the 80s/early 90s and wondered what he was doing when I moved back to Austin around 2010.

I've met him a couple times over the years. He's the kinda guy that everybody liked. A good soul. A true good soul.

Ughh.

Gerard’s death was confirmed by his wife, Janet, in a Facebook post Tuesday evening.

“Early this morning Gil – my soulmate – lost his fight with a rare and viciously aggressive form of cancer,” read Janet’s post. “From the moment when we knew something was wrong to his death this morning was only days. No matter how many years I got to spend with him it would have ever been enough. Hold the ones you have tightly and love them fiercely.”

I don’t have my reading glasses on so I can’t read the text and I’m doing voice dictation so text maybe screwy, but holy fucking shit Dick Van Dyke may not make it to the end of 2025.

The night before the murders Rob and his wife were at Conan Obrien's house for a Hollywood shindig. They asked Conan if they could bring Nick because they were afraid to leave him home alone in his state of mind. At the party Nick started acting crazy, got in a staredown with Bill Hader, then a blowup with his father over his behavior. They then left and he killed them.

Crazy shit

Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent Peter Arnett, who reported on Vietnam and Gulf wars, has died

Peter Arnett, the Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who spent decades dodging bullets and bombs to bring the world eyewitness accounts of war from the rice paddies of Vietnam to the deserts of Iraq, has died. He was 91.

Arnett, who won the 1966 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting for his Vietnam War coverage for The Associated Press, died Wednesday in Newport Beach and was surrounded by friends and family, said his son Andrew Arnett. He had been suffering from prostate cancer.

Reminds me of Peter Tomarken, the host of the game show "Press Your Luck". He and his wife died in a 2006 crash while volunteering to fly medical patients in his plane.

Vacation

This is a strange footnote in the Biffle story.

Quote

Roush, the team owner, was involved in several plane crashes during his years as a pilot and nearly died in a 2002 crash in which he landed upside down in a lake near Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. Larry Hicks, a retired member of the U.S. Marine Corps, rescued Roush from the overturned wreckage before Roush drowned.

Several seems like maybe take up a different hobby.

Not only did he have the second-best lunch box for young boys in the 70s/80s, but he acted alongside Erin Gray and got to bang Connie Sellecca in her prime.

Seeing a few reports that Ziggy Sobotka offed himself.

Ransone was great in The Wire and Generation Kill. His Wikipedia page references some past drug addictions.

That’s what the Greek wants everyone to think.

If he makes it the next 10 days, sounds like Johnny Manziel is a strong candidate for 26

I'm skeptical that there was someone filming just outside of the tunnel as the Ferrari came through and crashed. I assume they were filming for a reason and knew the Ferrari and perhaps others were driving fast and sliding/drifting/whatever.

They were filming for a reason.  All the previous tire marks give it away.

Maybe when you get enough money, you need to find novel ways to find thrills. I don't have that problem.

You’re not being invited to test-drive a 2026 Ferrari are you?

Me neither.
