December 12, 20241 yr So what is considered success with this hire? National championship? Win 9-10 games a year? I am most curious if the NIL he gives out plus the idea of him helping players get “NFL ready” will appeal to young kids or not. If I was a defensive back I would love to learn from Belichick but not sure most kids realize how good he is at teaching that position.

What is going on? And he names somebody as his General Manager? A college football General Manager? Huh? This is the more sophisticated version of the Colorado experiment with Sanders. We may as well remove all references to the football players being students.
December 12, 20241 yr You know ol Mack absolutely hates this. Being replaced by a guy with skins on the wall won’t be good for his ego.

December 12, 20241 yr Bill Belichick's record without Brady is 83-101 (45%) ...he ain't winning shit at UNC. Most overrated coach in NFL history.

There was no Joe Jamail to go kiss up to and stop it from happening this time. This is crazy and interesting. Football Xs and Os wise he can outcoach every person in that conference. Dabo and Manny Diaz are doing shit if Belichick gets them figured out. Just going to come down to if he can get the players there to do it. Since that's a shit conference with only 1 or 2 legitimately good teams he has a chance. Will be interesting to see what his staff looks like.

Belichick loses more knowledge about coaching football every time he shits than Deion has ever had in his life. So if Deion can scrape together enough to be competitive in the shit Big 12 I don't see how this would be much different.

Belichick had 1 winning season in Cleveland before landing the Pats job. Patriots went to the playoffs in 3 of the previous 4 seasons with an average record of 10-6...in the year before he arrived (Pete Carrol's last year) they dipped to 8-8. In Bill's first year he went 5-11 ...coincidentally the same as he'd done in Cleveland the previous year. Then along came Brady (who only got a shot because Bledsoe got injured) and viola Bill is the greatest coach ever. Then Brady goes to TB and Bill goes back to sucking ..ie 43% win rate over final 4 years after Brady leaves. Meanwhile, Brady leads the previously 7-9 Bucs to a Super Bowl championship in his first year with the team. But sure, Belichick is a great coach

December 12, 20241 yr So, this will be more like Bill Walsh at Stanford after his years with the 49ers rather than his years at Stanford before the 49ers?

December 12, 20241 yr I’m pretty sure at Shaggy during the post-Mack coaching search, there were wishful jokes about replacing Mack with Belichick, and here we are. Life imitating whatever that was. Maybe he’ll hire Brady as his OC/QB coach.

Tom Brady single handedly beat the Greatest Show on Turf and Sean McVay's 2018 Rams offense by leading the Pats to 20 (six of those 20 being on a pick six) and 13 points respectively? And that does not even mention what Belichick did in Super Bowl XXV against the Bills. This is stupid. Unless Brady also played defense, I don't see how you look at the Pats and just go 'oh yes this was a one man team that just outscored everybody every game' I just do not believe if Tom Brady had been drafted by 2000 Washington Redskins instead that Norv Turner and Dan Snyder would currently have Six Super Bowl victories. Tom Brady went into a good situation that allowed him to do what he did. Besides Snyder would have cut Tom Brady to get Jeff George anyway. Edited December 12, 20241 yr by Valmy77

NC hired someone who outshines Mack, who doesn't have to pretend to like Mack when he retires and tries to hang around the program, who has enough money himself and gravitas with boosters that Mack can't effectively undermine him from afar. He has got to be seething. All that said, it still probably won't work...unless....unless they find some big spenders to coin up their NIL? I could see them winning the ACC at some point.
