December 16, 20241 yr Fuck, wank, bugger, shitting ass head and hole. How was Love Actually not on that bracket? also, unpopular opinion. Elf sucks.
December 16, 20241 yr The best Christmas movie is The Godfather.I also consider that a Christmas movie because Don Corleone was Christmas shopping when he got shot.

December 16, 20241 yr A Christmas Story is the 2006 Rose Bowl of Christmas movies. Every other movie is competing for second place.

Clarence tells 'em something to the fact of "we don't have money in heaven". George replies with "Oh yeah, well it comes in pretty handy down here Bub". LOL. Yep. Just finished watching it with the family, as we do every year near Christmas. I've seen it at least 40 times and it still hits me right in the feels & has me on the edge of my seat every single time. There are several great Christmas movies, but ''It's a Wonderful Life is easily #1 for me.
December 16, 20241 yr That list is pretty bare, and leaves out some good ones. I agree with the Die Hard and Gremlins arguments, both top tier Christmas films. Trading Places also happens around Christmas time. Eyes Wide Shut is technically a Christmas movie by the same standard, and it has its own way of being appealing. My wife's family really likes White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Holiday Inn too, which includes Fred Astaire. They are corny classics, but deserve a mention. The old 1950s Rudolph and Frosty movies were always classic to me. Miracle on 34th Street is still a classic. Muppets Christmas Carol is awesome. Charlie Brown Christmas sucks, just like everything else Charlie Brown related. Those kids were straight up assholes to each other in every show. As a kid, I really liked the Ernest P Worrell movies, and I think I was the only one in my house who liked Ernest Saves Christmas. Haven't watched it in about 30 years and I'm sure it's awful, but I don't want to burst that bubble.

Kids today miss certain things like nuance and "this is how things were back then". We find this some with 80s films that say "faggot" a lot.

It's almost the whole first half of the movie before Sicily... Michael and Kay in the city, Hagen getting picked up by Sollozzo while Christmas shopping, the hospital scene, even the restaurant scene where Michael goes to the bathroom there are Christmas lights in the restaurant.
December 16, 20241 yr Two pages and not one mention of Emmet Otter's Jug-band Christmas? God damn classic. Buncha heathens up in here.
December 20, 20241 yr Lots that I will watch, if I happen to catch them on tv or can be bothered to drag out a dvd, but only 2 I have to see every year, a Christmas Story and Stalag 17. Not Christmas without Seftin, Animal, and Equipoise. But not security, fuck him.

No White Christmas is criminal. I don’t really consider The Apartment or Meet Me in St Louis Christmas movies. Most of St Louis is set in the summer. Way under the radar Christmas classic: The Desk Set. Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, and 1950’s office Christmas party shenanigans.

Never watched that with my kids, but young South Austin loved it when it came on HBO during the Christmas season in the early 80s.
December 21, 20241 yr Batman Returns is a straight up Christmas movie. I watched today, so Level 1. What was life like in November in 1990 when Home Alone came out? I’m too young to remember. Seems pretty glorious. A suburb dad can afford to take his family of 15 to France. Carson is still on the air. John Candy is still alive. Air travel seems pleasant.

December 21, 20241 yr Not trying to derail the thread but in Home Alone does anyone know what Buzz’s name is? Not the actor but the character. Buzzington? Or just Buzz? It’s been nearly 35 years and I’ve never thought about this once until now.
