When I posted this, I didn't realize that that Lando out-qualified Oscar 21-3 last year. Obviously, it makes sense to prioritize the car that dominated Saturdays and always starts closer to the front. So far this year, Oscar is up 3-2. Going to make for a spicy paddock if that trend continues.

April 19Apr 19 Gonna be interesting when the McLarens get nerfed in Spain.Flex wing is going away or everyone gets it?
April 19Apr 19 They’re lowering the amount of flex the front wings can have by 5mm. It’s predicted that it’s going to take most of McLarens speed advantage over Red Bull away. Edited April 19Apr 19 by kevwun
April 19Apr 19 Does anyone else use the F1TV stream? The quality night and day better compared to the broadcast over Hulu, but the app is absolute garbage. Very buggy and fast forward is a pain.

Lando has better pace and is better at preserving his tires, but none of that matters if he keeps screwing up qualifying and being bad in wheel to wheel racing. Lando would be walking away with the WDC if he could quit screwing up, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen, so you’ve gotta go with Oscar at this point.
April 20Apr 20 I'm kinda liking this Kimi kid, and why can't Aston Martin get their shit together? They're disappointing me and Bond

April 20Apr 20 So f'ing dumb that no one in Red Bull has the balls to tell Max to just give the place back. It was so obvious. Would have saved him the penalty.
April 20Apr 20 3 minutes ago, Goofyboy said: No reason to give it back when the stewards let you keep 1st. Pretty unlikely he builds a 5 second lead on a McLaren before pitting. To your point though, he'd probably be further behind Piastri after 20 laps had they restarted with Max in 2nd then he will be after serving the penalty.

April 20Apr 20 There is no way it's an easy choice. When was the last time a team had two contending drivers and the relationship didn't deteriorate in some way. Mismanagement benefits Verstappen the most.
April 20Apr 20 As I alluded to earlier, Saturday kinda makes the decision for them. Prioritize the car out front. Unless Max starts reeling off wins (certainly possible, even in a mediocre car), they probably have the luxury of alternating priorities.

April 20Apr 20 As much as I love F1, I do wonder how many races are fundamentally decided on lap 1, turn 1.

Easy answer would be the number of races the are overly dependent upon the results of qualifying. If only they would reduce the size of the cars enough to make passing truly possible in most of the races.

April 20Apr 20 better than a few of the previous races, at least you can pass here in a few spots. Really wonder if Max had just immediately given the spot back he would have ended up winning.

April 21Apr 21 Max 100% wins this if he (or his team, not sure who is at fault here) would have given the place back. He was ripping that circuit to shreds - 2nd place on laps 2 thru 5 would have turned into 1st real fast and that looked to be a track where clear air made all the difference. He was forced to give up clear air and too much of a gap and that cost him.

I think a stationary start was about the only chance either one of them had at passing each other on that track.

Oscar in the faster car has a good chance to build a lead if he's out in front with clean air. Anyway, grand prix podium for Ferrari, molto bello. Edited April 21Apr 21 by utee94

On 4/20/2025 at 12:06 PM, Goofyboy said: Max driving off track and keeping the place is bullshit. Yep. I blame the penalty system. It's what they all do these days, even when they might be better off just giving the place back, as they would have been in this case. The problem is, most times they come out ahead by just taking the penalty. I also still have a problem with the whole 'the inside car had a 6" lead at the apex, so he doesn't need to leave any room at all on exit for the car on the outside' convention (no matter who is involved). As one of the commentators astutely noted during the race, 'If Oscar had been slightly behind at apex instead of slightly ahead, Max would still have had to leave the track. They were both committed'. I'll never understand why the same rule that requires you to leave room for a car that's alongside on the inside doesn't apply to a car on the outside. Change that, and/or require track design that enforces track limits, and the whole equation changes. It was also so close imho that neither driver had a slam-dunk claim to having been ahead at the apex. Again, require both drivers to leave room for one another, and then each of them will change the way they race that corner, and the hair-splitting over who's ahead at the apex will go away. It won't even matter in terms of legality or penalties. 15 hours ago, dieucla98 said: Max 100% wins this if he (or his team, not sure who is at fault here) would have given the place back. April 30Apr 30 I know many are waiting for the flexiwing for Red Bull, but are there other upgrades that have been rumored for the other teams aside from AM who basically have given up on this year?

The president of YPF (the Argentinian oil company and Colapinto's sponsor) who forgot the microphone was on and revealed off-line that Colapinto would be competing in the Alpine from Imola. It'll be interesting to see how much things change with the Imola upgrades plus the reg change after Spain. I'd say if they're not able to be at the front by then, it'll be time to shut this season down and focus solely on 2026. Throwing away a shit load of points with a terrible strategy call for both drivers in Australia and DQs in China certainly didn't help.
