Apparently, contrary to what we've been hearing until the last couple of days, AM also has promising upgrades coming for the next 2 or 3 races. Seems they're having epiphanies based on the data from their new wind tunnel, learning where they've gone wrong, etc. Apparently they could only access the MB-AMG wind tunnel on weakends. That might explain some things.

McLaren got a new wind tunnel at the end of 2023, and they have nailed it with every single update since then and are the first customer team to win a title in a long, long time. No other team has been able to consistently develop their car without huge setbacks that weren’t seen in their wind tunnel/sims.

If making 90% of development theoretical, just let them have a full size wind tunnel

Isn't it just some nerdy engineering math problem at that point? I am serious, and will take criticism for my potentially horrible take.

I only stayed at a holiday inn recently, but I assume since they restrict wind tunnel size, there has to be an advantage to a full size model/testing wind tunnel. Otherwise why bother with the restriction? Seems like every team talks about their struggles to get the wind tunnel results to match the on track results.

Was in Navy ROTC at UT with the intention of heading to flight school until my shitty UT grades reared their ugly heads. I was soooo not ready for UT. Man, I'd cut off a nut for a ride-along like that one. I mean, I'm 59, so let's be honest, I no longer need 2 of 'em anyway. Took a ride on a full air show practice aerobatic ride in a Confederate Air Force T6 back in the day, piloted by my then-girlfriend's (no pics) dad. Those CAF dudes were crazy af. Fun ride. /csb Edited May 2May 2 by wood

Just include it under the budget cap along with everything else and let the teams figure the rest out.

My kid was telling me there's also some talk about Merc's wind tunnel being 'too smooth', i.e. it doesn't have a way to re-create bumpy track conditions. There's some speculation that this is one reason they've had so much trouble with ground effects.

May 3May 3 You have to love Kimi's reaction. I found it funny they had to keep him from leaving so he could do the interview.
May 3May 3 Fuck yeah - got a wet sprint race today. Someone is going to waste a couple milly into a wall.

While there aren't thousands of the average people staying in tents on the hillside, it is F1 so when don't you have those things at any race?

May 3May 3 How the fuck do they let the race go that long with all that debris and how in the world is it taking the stewards this long to address the Red Bull release of Max into Kimi?
May 3May 3 I realize that the teams like to take on the traits of the locations of the race and demolition derbies are big in the south, but someone needs to settled down Red Bull and RBR. Holy shit the pit release was bad, but Lawson ramming Fernando might have been worse.
May 3May 3 Does anyone else laugh every time Lewis gets the mic and immediately starts talking to the crowd?
May 3May 3 I am not sure what the answer is to fix the problem, but the crashed caused by Lawson ramming Fernando could make it difficult for Alonso to make it to qualifying. Do you put him at the back of the pack with the guy he wrecked out if AM can't get the car fixed in time? I realize things are going to happen in racing, but that was just a completely dumb arse decision.

Red Bull has gone from being the absolute bests in the pits to a shitshow. Which happens first for them? They end a driver's race by stripping the nuts trying to change a tire similar to Merc and Bottas or one of their drivers loses a tire after a stop because they don't get things on right?
May 3May 3 Author Gotta think RB are thisclose to ejecting Lawson into the sun and just dropping Lindblad in as soon as humanly possible.
May 3May 3 A little slower reaction time than Piastri at the start. He ended up going off track at turn 1 fighting with Piastri for the lead, which dropped him to 4th. Then Redbull had a terrible release that resulted in Max hitting Kimi in the pit lane and caused Kimi to miss his box when he was pitting for slicks (nothing Kimi could have done). Completely screwed his race.
