May 5May 5 I absolutely think they are crossing the line on something. No inside info obviously but for no one to be close and no one to figure out how they are doing this after a year is incredible. They are able to keep the tires way cooler than everyone else somehow. There’s some magic going on in their cake tins (the brake cover/air ducting).

Based on what we've seen from Lawson so far, we could write volumes about what he doesn't understand about racecraft and physics. L1T1 was a perfect example. Once he stuck the car in where & when he did, he was just headed to the scene of the collision. Doohan was already committed. It was impossible for him to avoid Lawson. Been saying this for a while. They need to penalize positions rather than time. 3 hours ago, ChickenSandwich said: My dream is the only regs needed are related to outwash/backwash for the following car. By the end of a regulation cycle, all progress towards this end has been developed away and the cars can’t follow, overheat, eat their tires etc. True, except this time the years of progress weren't developed away. They were simply thrown out the window by a rule clarification in response to a big team or two crying about it.
May 5May 5 As I said a year or so ago, Piastri is a machine, in the Alonso mold. Basically a human racing computer behind the wheel, always calculating. He's the next great one imho.
May 5May 5 Forgot the turn he did it in but his pass of Max was fantastic. Announcers basically ignored it and then gushed when Lando did the same move to pass max 10 laps later lol. Right now he is clearly P1 at McL Edited May 5May 5 by ChickenSandwich
May 5May 5 I don't recall this from last season, but apparently at some point RBR was accusing McLaren of injecting water into their tires to help keep them cooler, which they thought was one cause of McLaren's improved performance. So during Friday practice, this happened:
May 5May 5 That was great entertainment yesterday. Count me in as a fan of Piastri, too. Like others have mentioned, it will be interesting to see how long McLaren let's him and Lando race. And holy crap, can't believe Hamilton managed to keep it on the road on the last turn. Ferrari better get it right quick in the car and on pit wall or they could find themselves behind Williams... if Williams can stay steady.

Maybe it's that they spent more time talking about Lando because it took him so much longer to pass, ha.

I can't believe they haven't fully sold more of the team or a controlling percentage. Feel bad for the drivers
May 7May 7 Author Anyone watch The Seat about Kimi? My dad, whose experience is watching all of DTS and like 2-3 races a year really enjoyed it and recommended it.
May 7May 7 I’m gonna see if I can get a few races in the Alpine, too, since it seems to be a rotating position.

We just watched it last night and both enjoyed it. Yes, there are parts that seem as if they are trying to curate the story behind putting Kimi in Lewis' car, some of the behind the scene stuff might not be new, but it is enjoyable. I am not sure Kimi could be paired with a better engineer than Bono when you consider the temperament and the experience of working with two pretty decent drivers in his past work history. One scene that really reinforced just how young Kimi is during a family dinner and his sister says all her friends want Kimi's autograph. The shot of his sister really struck me because she looks like she would be in junior high (which is very possible) and then they cut to a shot where Kimi and the sister are running around outside like two little kids just having fun.
May 7May 7 Any thoughts on the suggestion that Vettel could replace Marko at Red Bull?If this happens and Horner also gets replaced (currently rumored, but not sure if I believe it), it would do a lot to making them more likable.
May 7May 7 If that happened, there isn't a TV camera wide enough to capture the size of Toto's shit eating grin in response.

Agreeed. I don't think they replace both of them at once, but would love to get that racist Marko out and get more calm Seb Oakes was one of the rumored names right? Wonder if he lands at RBR somewhere.
May 8May 8 Yeah I've been next to Fernando, Lewis, Kovaleinen, Massa, Jackie, Emmo, Ant Davidson, Checo, etc. Just tiny humans, even Kimi R. A few are normal size, like Button, Bruno Senna, Webber, Gro, Hulk, Schumi, Brendan Hartley, George, Ocon, etc, but most are pretty much jockey-sized. Rossi and Marquez are itty bitty too. May 8May 8 I remember the scene in DTS when they asked Horner which of the 2 drivers at McLaren hed take. Without hesitation he said Oscar. I think Oscar has more of a killer instinct and brass balls. Ala Max.Lando is more of a technical cautious driver and not willing to take chances.

To be fair, even if Horner didn't believe that, that was always going to be his answer to try to create turmoil.
May 8May 8 Saw a vid w/ Martin and Ted discussing whether Max races Oscar differently than Lando, and Martin was all in on that idea. I think it's more that Oscar races Max differently than Lando races Max.

They've long been rumored to be in bed with Mazepin Senior and they applied to gain entry to F1, but the source of their funding was an issue. Oakes' brother was just arrested in the UK for transfer of criminal property, i.e. using Mazepin's money to fund/run HiTech. Oakes flew straight from the Miami GP to Dubai. Seems like he'll be hanging out there avoiding extradition for quite a while. I assume that also means HiTech won't be competing in the junior series anymore. On the bright side Flavio Briatore is running Alpine now, so they've definitely cleaned up their act.

May 11May 11 I flunked out of Aerospace Engineering as a freshman at UT, does that count?I dropped out of ME after sophomore year, so I’ll accept it.I made it to sophomore year of aero before I switched to BA field. How the tables turn.
May 12May 12 Apparently Horner is on the verge of being fired from RedBull. A whole lot of reports out there.
May 12May 12 I am sure a number of people on this thread have already seen the documentary as it came out in 2013, but watched "1" over the weekend on Amazon. A pretty stark reminder of the dangers in racing in the formative stages and just how thrown together some of the races were at that time. The image of Martin Brundle running down the track to find the doctor to get cleared to continue racing after his car had been demolished in Melbourne was pretty wild. The days when teams had a back up car. I also had never heard the part of the story about Bernie acquiring the world wide rites to broadcasting F1 where he offered each team the opportunity to buy a 10% share for $100K.
