If Kimi wouldn't have wrecklessly knocked him out of austria, max would be leading the championship.

Sure but if Lando hadn't had an engine blow out in Zandvoort, then the title would've been already wrapped up in extremely boring fashion. Max also threw away some very valuable points in Spain when he threw a fit and drove into George.

That should be the most talked about "what if." He threw away points for no reason because he thought he had no chance at the title. Those points could easily end up being the difference in him winning or losing the WDC.

Exactly, Verstappen cost himself 9 points by throwing a tantrum. He would be 3 points behind right now with everything in his hands if he had just not been a baby.

It would be quite befitting if, in Max's most mature, professional season, his one ridiculous temper tantrum is what ends up being the difference keeping him from his 5th championship.

Anyone think Sainz will have more points than Albon at the end of the season?

He'd have to finish 5th and Albon outside the points.

He will if he finishes 5th or higher and Alex finishes out of the points.

What's wild is the points flip:  All 73 of Alex's points were scored before Baku - at that point, Carlos only had 16 points.  48 of Carlos' points have come in the past 7 races (and sprints).  Talk about closing out the season strong!

So, how would y'all like a new high-level OW series based on, say, a spec V10 & spec chassis the first season, with teams able to develop them independently going forward, under a cost cap? And let's say that series was going to start in 2028 ....

Sounds like it has potential to me.

Past performance not indicative of future performance aside, Sainz has done pretty well at Abu Dhabi the past 4-5 years while Albon has not.

I'm a big fan of Sainz and wish Ferrari had stuck with him, but he seems to be happy at Williams and James Vowles seems like a good team principle hiring good people around him.

/teamawesomehair

I couldn't be happier w/ Vowles and Williams this season, and I'm hoping their investment into the next reg car plays out - lord knows they can't give a sound bite without mentioning it.  But if all their efforts have been going into next year's car, when they're already Best of the Rest (and solidly so) this year, could they really challenge for 4th next year?  That's a massive jump - Ferrari has almost 3x+ points over Williams.

Love that Carlos and the car/team finally gelled.  There seemed to be some talk of him going elsewhere halfway through the season, and now he's got 2 podiums and a 5th.

Bummed about Alex having such a streaky season and ending poorly. If he and Carlos can be scoring at the same time, they could be salty.  7 of his 11 scoring races were 7th or better, with 4 5th place finishes.
scored in 7 of the 1st 8
3 RET
scored in 4 of the next 5
out of the points in 6 of the next 7, and RET in the 7th

Honestly, I'm a little surprised that they're not bumping Hadjar up this week. It would obviously be a huge longshot, but, with Ferrari imploding, he at least could theoretically qualify in the top 5ish and potentially factor into Red Bull's big picture strategy, rather than the complete afterthought that Yuki will be. With Oscar seeming like he regained his form, it's hard to imagine anyone in the field knocking a McLaren off the podium in a "normal" race weekend. Maybe Russell.

Though, I suppose you could certainly argue that that current Racing Bulls car is faster than the Red Bull in the hands of mere mortals.

I'd say with the new regs for next year, he'll probably do much better than Yuki and Lawson did in it this year.

They just need to give Yuki Order 66.

Hard to envision a scenario where Yuki is ever close enough to Lando to take one for the team.

Getting lapped.

Why would Yuki even entertain it? They've fucked him already. I'd be much more worried about Hadjar than anyone else. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Yuki dis something to hurt Max's race.

Can't turn the screen if you're on the computer, but you get the idea.

This seems really fucking cool to me:

Toyota slowly taking that team over, just like I thought.

I was genuinely excited about Toyota in F1 back in the early 2000s. I'm not a Toyota fan or anything but, I believe more manufacturers is better for the sport and I don't care from where they come.

Haas seems like he doesn't really give a shit about F1 other than to just expand his business. I get that but, it sucks. I want people to be for racing, if they are going to be in racing.

Hopefully Toyota gives it a good go.

I remember when Chip went from Honda to Toyota back in 1999, or 2000, for his CART teams.

That, or simply jump the start and do as much carnage as possible.

They way some of the race officials have ruled this year, there is a chance that it would be classified as normal first turn race start carnage.

Just sayin', it wouldn't be hard for someone qualified at the back of the grid to do a quick 180 when the race starts and run the first lap backward, meeting the rest of the field head-on.

The burning question for this race is if Max is in 1st, Lando’s in 4th and Oscar’s in 2nd or 3rd, does McLaren give Oscar team orders to drop and swap with Lando and does he follow them?

I’m guessing yes to both because Oscar has done everything the team’s asked him so far even when it’s BS, but that would really test the limits of his loyalty.

Oscar can’t win it if he’s in that spot. Lando can. He moves. Bigger question is Max is in first, Lando second, Lewis 18th… [emoji16]

Eh, Lando can win no matter what finishing in 2nd or 3rd, so Lewis doesn’t need to be Latifi in that scenario lol.

Let's say Oscar is close in 2nd and fighting for a win. What's the team's legitimate argument for asking him drop places?

From their perspective they already secured WCC, which is the "real" objective of the sport and directly determines the rewards payout.

If you're Google or OKX (the title sponsor), having one of your driver winning WDC is great... but having your driver win the race is good too.

All I know is McLaren is praying that whatever happens this weekend that Oscar doesn't end up a certain amount of points behind Lando in second place in the drivers total so they don't have to go through the off season talking about Papaya rules and the switch over a fucked up pit stop.

Lando qualifies first. Oscar second. Max 3rd.

Max goes for broke and dive-bombs into T1, wiping out lando.

Oscar takes the trophy.

Or Oscar and Lando wreck each other on lap 1 and Max coasts to the title.

Norris was the slowest of the 3 contenders in Q1.

If they finish the race according to Q1, it would be:

Piastri - 417

Norris - 416

Verstappen - 414

And Albon also out. Whats going on with those 2.

I’m kind of hoping Max wins. I don’t have anything against Lando or Oscar.

I think they should pay a bit of a price for the team being kind of dumb at times trying to micromanage the points.

Good time for the season to end for him. Either he's completely washed or he's gassed from the longest two seasons ever. We will find out pretty early next season which it is.

I agree but when I pointed out he wasn't one of the best drivers last season a couple of people around here got mad like I was insulting their family. As I said then, age comes for all of us and it comes at different speeds for different people.

Leclerc outqualified Hamilton 19-5 this season. He's currently up 17-3 in GP finishes.

Bortoleto tied up qualifying 12-12 with Hulkenberg and easily into Q3 with a monster lap in Q2.

It is puzzling at times watching Albon.

Max, Lando and then Piastri in Q2.  All 3 ran used tires in Q2 so they have 2 new sets of softs for Q3.

Charles is used to driving the Ferrari shit box. Lewis was not. Charles just described his drive as a rally course.
That said - next year will be telling. If Charles is at the top and Lewis isn’t - he should hang it up.

I’ve said the same thing for years. I will get slammed four this as well but, even though I think he’s one of the best drivers ever I do think he was also in the most dominant and advanced car ever as well. Plus, I don’t really like any English drivers so, there is that.

As for people jumping down your throat, and not mine, perhaps I have more tact with my words. 😉

Hamilton looked utterly confused and defeated in that short interview.

I was wrong, Landon and Oscar have 1 new set of softs.

He managed to beat his 1st lap without the benefit of a Yuki tow.

His pace is ridiculous.

first two rows. Start will be fun tomorrow.

Mercedes really should have timed George's lap to a get a tow from Max.  He would have been very happy to give it.
