Great quali. So many new drivers. McLaren looking 💪🏼

You can say that again. Their second fastest car being over 0.3 seconds clear of the rest of the field? 2023 Red Bull didn't even do that with their top car in Bahrain (1st race that year) or Australia (3rd). Hope we're not in for a repeat of that season. Luckily, McClaren is good for some strategy shenanigans.

Williams not being in the running for worst car on the grid would be a nice improvement. They have the most likeable driver lineup in the paddock, and both are crazy talented. Albon deserves a faster car.

Yuki being on a season long revenge your against Lawson after getting jumped without ever even getting the opportunity to put up some lap times in a Red Bull is a fun little side story.

Alex and Yuji pipping 5th back-to-back to close out Q was badass.  Stoked for Williams to be good again!  Can finally wear my favorite shirt again without shame.

Did Yuki fuck Marko’s wife or granddaughter (or both) or something? Because there’s no clear racing reason to keep him out of the 2nd RBR seat. Putting a Racing Bull 5th, while Lawson managed to only out-quali the Haas (one of whom didn’t start) seems pretty good, Bob.

Yuki gets too angry on the radio so clearly he's not a fit for RBR.

But for real he was incredible today. I was bummed over the break to hear he didn't fill Sergio's seat, especially after taking it to Ricciardo.

Sounds like Ferrari raised the car to avoid potential plank wear issues.

Wow. that's a pretty smooth circuit, so if that's a problem for them there, it could be a big problem for them much of the year.

It would be really cool to see a Williams resurgence.

Gonna be fun rooting against RB, Mercedes, and Ferrari. Can't root for McLaren cause I hate these fucking children rolling around Scottsdale in their McLaren crews. Guess that leaves Aston Martin and Williams, depending on which of you posters I can't stand who like those teams.

This could be a fun year. McLaren looks strong but there is a lot of competition. I think 7 teams in q3? Always ends up like this before they switch regulations

It’s gonna be long night.

That cell to the SW is moving NE and might go just E of the track

Anyone else notice before the interview, when Lando went to place his bottle of champagne 🍾 in its holding spot, he put a cigarette 🚬 next to it so that he’d have his celebratory smoke waiting for him?

#Europeans

I hate to admit it, but I believe in McLaren again. I'm ready to be hurt

Welp

All 6 "rookie" (which includes Bearman and Lawson) drivers spun out this weekend. Antonelli was the only one able to keep his car away from the wall.

It's fascinating to me how little time F1 drivers actually get in their cars.

Did I hear MB say that there is no longer a point given for fastest lap?

I think I remember talk of that going away after last season.  Not much point with how often it gets sniped at the end of the race by someone out of contention.

Yeah I’m good with it. It created some unnatural actions at the end of every race.

Impressive drive from Lando. Nailed all the starts/restarts and handled the conditions.

This is exactly why I've been saying in-season testing should be brought back (or one very good reason, of many). Just put it under the budget cap with everything else and let the teams decide how much to test or not test.

Oh, Ferrari.  Gave away 10 points or more.

I'm as hard on Ferrari as anyone for their ridiculous strategy decisions over the years, but I don't hate this one. The weather report was all over the place and if they stay out and it doesn't really rain, they double podium. Maybe even 1st and 2nd. Just didn't work.

You couldn't see it too well on the tv feed, but here's what caused the Fred spin. Dunno if it was from when Gasly went a little wide a couple seconds ahead of Fernando, or maybe earlier with Piastri?

Red Bull made the same choice as Ferrari, they just realized the car wouldn’t be able to stay on the track with slicks sooner.

That would be like driving on marbles

Great race, but holy shit the coverage was awful. You'd see these big shakeups in the top 10 and get to see the action two laps later.

The issue was going back to inters after they gambled. I actually agreed with Crofty, there were so few laps left just see if you can survive or if there's another safety car to save you.

They pussed out and got 5 points. Woohoo, 5 points.

Edited by Huckleberry

I'm pretty sure if they'd stayed on the slicks, they'd have been fucked in terms of lap time. It was still too wet in too many places at that point from what I could see.

Yeah, don't think it was possible.  All the drivers wanted inters.  Lando and Max were still power sliding through the corners at the end of the race.

Edited by kevwun

5 points is better than zero points. They gambled a lap and it failed. If it had worked we would all be saying it was a brilliant gamble.
