March 23Mar 23 I got so wrapped up in basketball I forgot the race. I'll have to check the replay later. Nice day for McLaren.

March 23Mar 23 Why is it bullshit? Rules are rules. 1kg under weight. 2.2 lbs. there are rules, but that doesn’t make a big difference. Hamilton was .5mm too much wear, non -detectable visually.

March 23Mar 23 Amazing turn of events with the DQs. It’s happened to guys I root for so, as others say, “rules are rules” stupid some may be.

Now some of the people on the YouTube are talking about what will RedBull do with Lawson. “Cut him loose!” Might as well go back and ask Gasly or Albon if they want a second shot.
March 23Mar 23 Only other thoughts: I know we always say we like rain because it shakes things up, but I REALLY like a wet China GP - there's a spot at the last turn as they come into the grandstand straight that catches damn near everyone. It's almost like watching that low bridge underpass in North Carolina where truck after truck gets stuck, even though 100 trucks got stuck before them. Lando had a fantastic start, for once. I don't know that they showed it today, but the helicopter shot of the sprint start yesterday, going thought the 1st massive curlycue is one of the coolest shots in F1. After the DQs, Albon is in 6th, Williams in 4th. Huzzah MFers! Also, did anyone mention Ted going balls deep on Christian yesterday? Fucking GLORIOUS!
March 23Mar 23 Norris may have not finished on the podium if the race was another lap or 2. George was like 3.5 seconds faster on the last lap.

They 100% should have given Albon a longer leash. But Perez was an established name coming off a surprisingly good season with Force India, so I understand it.

March 23Mar 23 When my brother still lived in Taiwan he used to do McLaren’s Asian trademark work and I slays told him to ask for some really good tickets to the race and that I would come over. He knows shit about cares, and less about racing, so he never did. I would have enjoyed that.

The amount of long radius turns means it's extremely hard on a car's tires to follow. They either have to have a big pace advantage and make the pass in 1-2 laps or they kill their tires and then they're stuck. For the top 6 cars, they were all pretty close on pace so there was minimal passing at the top. The only top car overtook was when another top car's tires fell off the cliff.

For whatever reason. I don't get it. Dude is mediocre imho, even in IndyCar. They have far better options right under their noses in IndyCar imho. Palou is clearly better than anyone else in Indycar, but I think Herta's in that second tier. He's showed great pace at times, and he finished #2 in the driver's standings last year. He's had a lot of bad luck/Team Andretti fuck ups the last 2-3 years. Even the St. Pete's race a few weeks ago, he qualified 2nd and was in the mix and then they screwed up his pit and he had to pit again and he was basically out of the race. I do agree though that they have better options in F1, however if they want a true U.S. driver (I think that's overrated), he's probably at or near the top.

Should have run the bottom 3 soft compounds instead of top 3 hard compounds. When cars can’t follow each other you can’t race. Last year of regs means it will be worse this season. Either of those has always been a DISQ in F1, and always will be in a series where the margins are this small. The minimum weight is the minimum weight, etc. Skirt it and you've gained an illegal advantage. But my biggest takeaway from this weekend was: Damn, Charles and Alex's GFs ... holy shit. I know they're F1 drivers and all that, but well done, mates. Well done.

That turn complex is exceptionally good and always produces some of the best racing of any complex on the calendar. So good, and yeah, it also looks great on TV. The way Max took Leclerc to school there late in the race was borderline abusive lol. BTW that Doohan fuckery at the end on Hadjar was bullshit. Yes he got the 10s penalty, but he also should have been forced to give up the position, as he was holding up Hadjar badly and could only keep him behind with bullshit moves. He also got away with obviously moving under braking. Shoulda had two penalties and been forced to move over right away. If I were race control I'd be on the radio saying "Give the position to Hadjar and you can avoid penalty. If you don't give it up, you'll get the penalty and still have to give up the position". He splits time between Austin and Barcelona. And O'Ward is basically an SA boy, too.

Don't get me started about Pirelli's shitty, predictable tire choices that produce the most predictable, boring racing possible, with very limited strategy options. And yeah, the problem is not the track. There's been great racing there at times. It's the cars not being able to follow. They had made great progress on that a couple of years ago, and it produced great racing, but then the slow learners cried, and here we are. We can't have nice things.

That pass of LeClerc and Max driving right past Piastri on lap 1 in Australia on the outside in the wet are probably the two best overtakes of the year so far. So frustrating knowing that he's capable of such smooth, technically perfect overtakes and defenses but still sees red whenever things aren't going exactly his way. Going to be interesting to see how long his patience lasts in a slower car, no Newey, and a shit show over at the 2nd seat.

March 25Mar 25 Apparently you are allowed to replace the damaged part for the weigh in. It wasn’t the wing that made him underweight.

It's pretty obvious that's the case.

March 25Mar 25 What did he say wrong? Yuki says he was ready to take his job. Lawson responded appropriately
March 25Mar 25 There are less douchy ways to respond. Way less. "It's a great seat, everyone wants it and claims to be ready. I've got to do better to keep it."

His confidence/cockiness is a major reason why he's in the seat (compared to Yuki's history of emotional volatility). Horner probably likes seeing Yuki aggressively and confidently pursuing the seat. But, "Fuck you, I've always been faster than you," is also an appropriate response to that challenge. The only thing that's going to keep him in the seat is driving faster around a track, not how well liked he is in the paddock.
