December 19, 20241 yr Taking Bob Stinson's spot in The Replacements wasn't easy, but Slim pulled it off. Some twelve years after a debilitating stroke, Slim passed away today.
December 19, 20241 yr Dammit. His two solo albums from the early to mid 90s were criminally underrated.
December 19, 20241 yr Saw him with The Replacements in ‘87 shortly after he joined, then later in ‘91. He was great. R.I.P.
December 19, 20241 yr Slim was the man. Don't Tell a Soul and All Shook Down always got a bad rap, but there are so many great songs on those records, and Slim was a major part of it. I can't imagine we even get those last few Replacements records without him being (kind of) a senior influence. I played my final high school football game in his hometown of Plainview. CSB.

December 19, 20241 yr A Spin writer referred to Slim as a retarded garage mechanic in an article and that description has stuck in my head for over 35 years.

January 16Jan 16 Author Damn those Teles sound fantastic. When I hear arrangements like that I get the same eerie feeling I get with Dave Grohl's stuff -- maybe he had a whole lot more to do with his bigger band's sound than I thought.

There's no doubt that both Slim and Dave were monstrous parts of the sound of the bands they were sidemen in. Both the Mats and Nirvana sounded quite a bit different after they joined. On a similar note whenever I listen to Bash & Pop I always wonder if that's Tommy wearing Paul's influence on his sleeve or a reflection of his contribution to the Mats.
