I cannot figure out what’s wrong. The pool pump doesn’t have water in it. We open the lid, pour in a ton of water until there is visible water in the pump, then it runs okay. Come back later and it a low on water again bathe pump is dry. What in the eff is going on?

Sounds like a leak in the line, sucking air in from somewhere.  Maybe check to make sure your lid seal is good, check your pipes near the pump, etc.?

Also, check the fetzer valve.  If you have to replace it, prepare it with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads.

I can’t. I’m out of Quaker State.

Leak on suction side.  Bad gasket or no lube at debris basket or leak at joints.

This.

Make sure the valve is open.

Possible clog in line.

Make sure the line is open at the skimmer below the debris baskets , simple stuff but that flap can move.

I’ve had this happen before, troubleshooted for hours, finally noticed the problem, dead hooker stuck in skimmer. Worth checking
